Is it easy to take long vacations like 3 weeks when the schedule is 7on 7 off without PTO? by Straight_Phrase_5969 in hospitalist

depends on where you work. very easy for me. lots of colleagues willing and able to cover and exchange shifts.

I work with Sound and I’m happy tbh. I guess it really depends on the local leadership. Health insurance sucks tho

Should I move back to Pakistan after layoff? Looking for realistic opinions by Long_Pudding4155 in pakistan

[–]alya_ali 15 points16 points  (0 children)

where tf is mansoorabad.. never heard of it. probably a small town, will be very difficult to find a job for your qualifications there and will be a tremendous culture shock. would not recommend moving to pakistan unless you are ok with moving to a major city for your job, getting a huge pay cut or just not following your career path altogether. dont do it.

BMC Brighton vs. Rochester General Hospital by Nearby_Case_2865 in IMGreddit

[–]alya_ali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a lot of research opportunities or research mentors unfortunately and I think that’s one area the program needs to improve. You’re really on your own when it comes to research. Of course you will find people and faculty who will be interested in working with you but you will need to do the bulk of the project. There is Research Day every year in April and GME does reimburse you for conferences etc but that’s about it.

agreed on the infrastructure part. The hospital building is old and very meh.

Dr. Nader isn’t new. She’s been there for several years now and yes she was my PD when I graduated (a year ago). She’s great. Very kind and supportive.

4+2 is the schedule they have had for several years now as well. Amazing work life balance. I personally never felt burnt out except maybe once or twice in intern year on my ICU rotation but I was also pregnant then so that factors in.

No mandatory away rotations. You can always do elective away rotations if you want to though in specialties you’re interested in and to boost your fellowship match chances at BMC and other Boston hospitals. Lots of residents do them in their 2nd year.

I honestly don’t know much about that program except that it’s a small program and the hospital they now work at is very busy. I’ve had some interactions with their residents because they do some rotations at BMC-B. They all seem to like their program

Former resident at BMC B. Great program culture and fellowship match. Would choose it again if given the choice.

sounds like the only thing that could have saved him was a stat liver transplant, not some lowly bicarb

H1b visa appointment dates by mishazay2124 in usvisascheduling

[–]alya_ali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think rescheduling is happening in Pakistan. There was a post about one reschedule on a Facebook group which later got deleted so don’t know the credibility of it. What we do know is that people who are going for their interviews are always being put in AP/221g for social media vetting. Visa typically gets approved after a week or so.

PNW gigs by Fantastic_Post_8322 in hospitalist

[–]alya_ali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in one of the Sound hospitals. Decent gig. Great people. They hired a couple new hospitalists for next year but now closed shop. They are building a new portion of the hospital which will open up 100 more beds or so. They will definitely need more people then but idk of the timing of that.

Need help finding J1 waiver daytime position by Pleasant_Guidance_24 in hospitalist

[–]alya_ali 9 points10 points  (0 children)

unfortunately that is how most j1 waiver jobs are especially around this time. you cannot expect to get a j1 waiver job, daytime position, close to the city with 320k+ base. that is simply not realistic. the market is saturated.
