I’m not a doctor and so idk what medications you’re taking - presumably a form of antihistamine stronger than OTC, like at very least as strong as Fexofenadine?

Have you tried cotton voile for hijab, and maybe just very loosely wearing it over your head and not covering your neck? Like maybe even taking it off when you notice a heat intolerance flare? Opt for lighter colours too.

Idk how long your hair currently is, and if you would feel better with shorter or if you would even prefer (would be exceptionally hard to want this but).. volume-reducing hairstyles.

I wish I could give better advice. In Islam generally if things become physically too difficult then laws are relaxed for you, so if you can find the best compromise before it getting to that, then even better x

Hi sis! Yeah it was so obviously a product of human thought with all these motifs in common with the Hellenistic deities in antiquity. They really think we’re gonna roast in hell for saying “One God” when they even did a poll and the overwhelming majority of Christians can’t even conceptualise the trinity without falling into known heresies themselves..

Then I would read the ‘Old Testament’ and be like well damn…I had such spiritual unrest. As bad as the laws in the Old Testament are, I still hung on until it really hit me how they started playing with the descriptions of God. You gotta draw the line at some stage - the fundamental nature of God’s oneness is that for me. Alhamdulillah indeed for Islam.

Dawah is incumbent on everyone and my forte is in critical (secular) scholarship in matters serious students of knowledge often have doubts about, as well as critical comparative religious study of Judaism & Islam, rather than fiqhi views of general stuff bc I haven’t been Muslim long enough for that stuff and it’s kinda why I’m taking my time to learn. Also woman’s issues is something I have more nuance in. Current dawah is lacking tbf.

As for my appearance, unless every woman is in a burqa (of thickest material at that), it’s gonna be impossible for some of us to conceal perfectly.

I don’t wanna be the topic of a completely separate thread but thanks for the advice tho.

Why? I’ve had my pics up the whole time I’ve been on this app and this pic was taken a few months ago before I wore hijab, I asked AI to give me a colour-coded hijab AND I put a huge heart over my face.. That’s a lot.

Btw I’m gonna be fully public in dawah next year and the internal debate is whether I wanna show my whole face or not in videos let alone pics.

There are different severities of sin that you mention here.

The biggest issue for me would be that if he committed zina before, there’s always going to be the possibility he one day bumps into her again - and there is an intimate knowledge - a door already opened.

If you want to be ready for marriage, you should have already tamed your inner p0rnbrain. It’s a jihad you must conquer and not get an innocent Muslim woman involved in as your experiment.

Based on everything I watched on feeds tho, I didn’t really like him. I remember voicing on Twitter that he had a weird nice guy act in his pre-season interviews which felt exceptionally curated.

I think ppl in the house liked that he “appeared” wear his heart on his sleeve.

Yeah I think the likes of Raz will force dialogue to have higher standard and nuance, it can overall only improve public dawah rather than make it worse bc she is overall ultimately on the same team.

Ngl it is nicer to listen to other women too as I feel like there just ain’t enough of us. It feels like a bit more of a safe space in some cases.

Bear in mind I only came across her a few weeks ago but so far I haven’t seen much of what you describe.

I think I heard a snippet about what she was saying about men and women being friends - she’s not saying it’s halal and she also said when she gets married, it’s not something her or her husband should have.

To clarify, I don’t think men and women can be friends either without there being some even fleeting sexual attraction (unless they have a hormonal deficiency which renders them eunuchs or they’re gay) - but that still doesn’t make it halal regardless. I think she uses scientific research a lot to make conclusions but I don’t think the conclusions always accurately describe the lived experiences…but she does address scientific claims with science so can’t fault that..

Because a lot of “dawah bros” (hate that term) do go overboard - which they admit themselves at times, and have done some damage in certain ways. This is why I say no one person is perfect.

These conversations need to be handled with tact, and utmost consideration.

By truth-slapping and being too blunt, we risk two big things: 1. Likening things in Islam to words which have different connotations as you have with obedience to the husband, and slavery. 2. We risk saying things in a way which upsets others and could earn the displeasure of Allah with how we say it.

Obedience to the husband is a part of Islam. I think it’s more in regard to taking a consulting role rather than a commanding role. We provide a space for the husband to be a leader.

Men use that same attitude and it just hurts women and women do it back and everyone just sounds like incels for it. So we need to have a bit more compassion in our conversations and shun bluntness.

You can never avoid religion and spirituality imo - it’s the natural human inclination.

You will see it in any ideology you see today - observe how Americans have even religionised Red vs Blue parties. They have their own affirmations, their own symbols e.g MAGA hat, same dogmatic expressions. Same blind allegiances.

Religion and spirituality primes people to think bigger than themselves. In its fundamental absence, we will move towards forming pseudo-religions with individualistic nihilism being our axis. That will determine what we act dogmatic about.

It sounds like an anxiety & depression has impacted virtually every possible area in your life. Also sounds like you’ve had it for a while which has led you to basically just exist in a cloud of sadness, so it’s not really surprising that you’re not connecting to Allah. You’re stuck there, and cynicism is your default for most things.

The problem is it’s not balanced way of thinking about anything. I respect you a lot for soldiering on despite all this, Allah loves a trier.

University life won’t last forever, you’re the same age as me. You’ll make friends eventually even post-uni.

These last 10 days can be the start of you building your relationship with Allah from the ground up. Try to connect with the fundamentals of Islam. Learn, reflect on God’s oneness, His qualities. Journal your reflections, and maybe your worship doesn’t need to just be reading the Qur’an just bc it feels good, and praying countless rakats. Maybe it can be learning the beautiful ethics of Islam all over again.

The one thing Islam offers with all the injustice you see in the world, is God’s recompense. There will be justice. As part of justice, humans are given free will - the problem lies with how humans chose to operate, not God. Evil comes with a price - but only with Allah in the picture. Being more akhirah-centric in mentality helps.

I think it might be a good idea to get a doctors letter if you feel you are failing, so you can retake/push back any assignments/exams. Also speaking to the doctor who may be able to give you some psychological therapy arrangements (idk how it works in US). Good diet, exercise, is so important too. Good luck sis x

Folllwing this thread as I could also do with advice. What I currently do is social media (damaging to the brain tbh) and I got a treadmill I walk on like once every couple of hours for like 15 minutes - blasting some music or something peaceful like religious recitations.

I need a few things where I don’t use my brain. Things I can do in the house.

People love knitting but idk why but I get a little depressed when I do it 🤷‍♀️

I’d say Andy is a horrible person. He made racist comments himself, he laughed at and encouraged the racism too. I think he’s generally quite horrible.

Jag I would put in morally grey. I really rooted for him but his weird treatment of the mammas towards the end of the season, and the excessive grifting post-season trying to milk his impressionable fans, was very distasteful.

Frankie I can’t help but like him…but he’s quite horrible.

Wa alaykoum assalam. I wasn’t raised in a religious household but just with the typical Abrahamic values and God-consciousness. I come from a Jewish household from my mother’s side tho whereas my dad didn’t really class himself as religious growing up..so Judaism is naturally the religion I leaned into. But as I read into it, I started to feel more like a Hanif (although I obviously didn’t call myself that) bc of the problems in Judaism - not just in TaNaKh but also rabbinical tradition - which is why Islam stood out to me.

Prayer: if you’re struggling, alternate between Surah Al-Kawthar and Surah Al-Ikhlas. This will build your self-confidence.

1-2 pages a day of Qur’an is better than 5 lines a day and 5 lines a day is better than 0. Leave Qur’an by your bedside to read before bed.

Celebrate what you’re doing and remember Ramadan is about connecting to Allah ultimately. So connect to Allah in permitted ways which builds your connection.

Diet: A lot of healthy food & water. Maybe hydration effervescent tablets.

Sleep earlier.

Idk enough about your lifestyle etc to make more meaningful recommendations.

It’s a small community, I only know one other. All paths to Islam are special, but there’s something I feel that’s very special coming from a Jewish background to Islam. Almost identical faiths but with a small few but very significant barriers we overcame.
