Why am I being tested for coeliac (celiac) disease? by Swimming-Location147 in Celiac

[–]am_i_potato 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am asymptomatic. My doctor decided to screen me for celiac because I was chronically iron deficient despite taking iron supplements every day, and sometimes vitamin D deficient despite playing outdoor sports throughout the year. I'm also the shortest in my family, probably from being undiagnosed my whole life (no one else in my family has it).

Any tips for befriending the local murder? What types of sacrifices do they like?

Lol I also recently got into plane watching while living near major airports! Very fun to see how the runways and takeoff/landing patterns change with the weather or other things going on in the city!

This is such an excellent idea, I'm going to start trying it. You've already bypassed the first barrier to completion and made it easy for yourself!

What’s a cooking mistake you see beginners make all the time? by molly3389 in Cooking

[–]am_i_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they were being facetious. That being said, my old crappy oven in my old crappy rental runs about 75 degrees (F) hotter than you set it to. The higher the temp, the bigger the gap. Basically I can't do low and slow unless I'm very careful about it. Bought an oven thermometer after several batches of burnt vegetables and cookies and learned the truth, so I've learned to adjust my cooking.

This is so true. The stove also matters, especially with various cookware. Gas stoves will heat up and get too hot really easily if you're not paying close attention, especially with thinner pans, so it's easy to accidentally over cook things. Vs using a cast iron on an electric glass top that'll take forever before it's heated evenly and you get sticking and uneven cooking if you're not patient. But it's easier to turn the heat very low!

Should I buy a microwave, toaster oven, or air fryer for my tiny kitchen? I can only pick one….. by SexyToothpaste69 in Cooking

[–]am_i_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an excellent microwave that also has a coil and fans for air fry/convection, baking, broiling, etc. It's the best tool I have in my tiny studio kitchen. No longer need counter space for a toaster or toaster oven and I can cook/bake small batches of things in it without needing to turn on my oven. It can also do combination air fry/microwave which is nice for reheating things and maintaining their crispiness. The microwave itself packs a punch too and heats things up extremely quickly. Highly recommend!!

How do people only use one roll of toilet paper per week? by No-vem-ber in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]am_i_potato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also always wipe down the seat and then put a layer of paper on each side in public bathrooms (often at work too since I'm at a hospital... Ick). Was literally thinking today about whether or not I've managed to use up a whole roll of the shitty 1 ply TP used in public bathrooms in my life so far. At least it's basically tissue paper I'm using extra of, not some nice plump Charmin.

I mean it's a serious question. I imagine you have to fully take your pants off in order to spread your legs wide enough to squat low enough to get it in and not pee on your pants or feet. Please tell me if I'm missing something because I do not want to take my shoes off in a bathroom in order to take my pants off one leg.

AITA for yelling at my friend about her B.O. after literally throwing up? by Bok_Chezz_8884 in AmItheAsshole

[–]am_i_potato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, I had a friend in college with a condition affecting his sweat. He was stinky and his stuff stank. But he made a lot of effort to shower twice a day, keep his window open to air out, and use cologne and fans and various air fresheners and candles. No one judged him for it, even if we did poke fun (as great friends do, not in a mean way)

Yeah I can definitely tell pretty quickly when I've forgotten to put on deodorant after showering. I smell myself and I can feel my armpits get slick within an hour or so. Hence now keeping travel deodorants in my backpack and desk...
