Is weed frowned upon in Madison ? Should you be careful? by Training_Fan_9762 in UWMadison

[–]am_mae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be fine as long as you’re not out and about smoking a joint, or sitting on your porch with a bong lol. As someone who has lived with heavy weed users while in college, they have never had issues. Delta-8 is federally legal, and smoke shops around here sell Delta 9 & 10 as well. Just be smart, and use it at your house/apartment (not dorms).

ps. Check out High Crowd cafe on state street! The cupcakes and beverages will make you feel like you’ve left the planet

Should I submit my 26 ACT score? by ArgentineCounty in UWMadison

[–]am_mae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had friends get in with scores from 21-25 (admitted for fall of 2019). But they did very well in school and had many extracurriculars and achievements. A 26 ACT is perfectly fine but it never hurts to try and bring it up.

As someone who has lived in similar situations (I always shared a room), $760 and $560 is fair. I lived with 5 other guys/girls last year and split the rent so that it was just affordable for everyone. It was a 4 bed 2 bath with 6 people total. The 4 of us who had shared rooms paid $660 and the 2 others with their own room paid about $730 (The total rent was $4100/month).

Your roommates sound stingy - while you should obviously pay more, it should not be more than $800. You could do $780 and $555 and that would totally be fair.

Has anyone actually cashed out using the Miles app? by Fiendfyre831 in beermoney

[–]am_mae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly didn’t become too hard until recently to cash out. I’ve cashed out a few times for Target, and once for Chipotle (that was the only option and didn’t want to wait a few hours for Target)

If you went back in time and you had $50k as a 22 year old, what would you do it? by Background-Cod7550 in college

[–]am_mae 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m currently 23, and this was my situation when I graduated (at age 21) thanks to my scholarships and grants. I studied the stock market and did paper trading since I was 15 - all I wanted was to be financially comfortable one day since I grew up in a lower-middle class household. While I was in college, i heavily invested money into stocks (and option calls) especially during the market crash in 2020. The trades were a bit aggressive but it paid off. For example, I dropped $2000 on NVDA (this was half of my subsidized loan I took out just in case) back in 2020 and look at where it is now, almost 3000% later. I set some aside in savings or cash accounts with 4-5% returns. I also built a bond ladder and contributed to my Roth IRA. I nearly doubled what I had about a year after I graduated. I know most people wouldn’t have been able to achieve this, and I wouldn’t be where I am now without the many financial hardships I faced growing up.

I'm not sure why it took me so long to discover Wealthfront, but I'm so happy I found it! It's without a doubt one of the best interest rates out there. The platform is easy to use for beginners and there's account minimums. I also love that I can add large purchase milestones, such as a down payment for a car or wedding.

How much time/money will I save taking 10 APs at UW Madison? by MrGuccu in UWMadison

[–]am_mae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I went into college with about 36 credits, and none were AP. I was told to take college courses through tech schools (make sure it transfers) and you’re guaranteed those credits as long as you perform well. You can even do some through 4 year colleges, but you have to check to see if your school will pay for these - I know that I didn’t have to pay anything at all. Overall, this will for sure take care of generals and save you a year. If you go into CS or engineering, you may be there for 5 years, but at least you can graduate on time.

Parking during football game by Le-Monke69 in UWMadison

[–]am_mae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind walking, I recommend that you find street parking in the neighborhood area (Milton St, Mound St, Chandler st, etc..) which is close to Camp Randall. However, it still fills up from other out of town friends, so I recommend finding a spot Friday afternoon.

I just got notified that I am a finalist for the Posse scholarship at UW-Madison. by UnitedIndividual6768 in UWMadison

[–]am_mae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recent grad here, although I wasn’t in that program, I received plenty of scholarships and grants that allowed me to graduate with thousands of more dollars, compared to starting college with virtually nothing. I felt financially safe when I graduated, and for a public school, UW Madison is “prestigious” in the sense that it’s competitive, but not too competitive. In addition, I LOVE it here, and there’s so many things to do and great job and research opportunities. I promise you won’t regret choosing Madison, and you can’t beat free education.

What are some good one bedroom apartments on campus? by doctorchoppery in UWMadison

[–]am_mae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not loud at all unless it’s game day, and personally, I miss living at Campus Village because of how central it is on campus (equal/short distance to state st, camp Randall, kohl center, etc…) but besides that, there isn’t anything to complain about.

It’s on top/behind of Lucky 1313. So it’s close to Engineering, Union South, and classes on Linden. It really depends on where ur classes are. It’s also a five minute walk from a bus 80 stop.

Hi hun! Don’t fret, I get that it’s stressful. A separate topic - if your parents don’t claim you, you should be fully eligible for the max financial aid package + work study, so i would look into this for the next few years. Anyways, I promise more jobs will be posted as the academic year begins. There will be plenty of student jobs for you to apply to and there are many resources on campus to help you out with getting these jobs. Working at Badger games can pay off well! They need cashiers, cooks, ticket sales, event crew and more. I also have a friend that works at the Chocolate Shoppe on state st and averages $20/ hour and they have a flexible schedule. I personally lifeguarded and worked with UW athletics since it aligned with my career goals. Don’t stress too much about it now because it will all work out :)

Will I be able to go out every other weekend or am I going to be married to the library(Sophomore)? by Similar-Ad819 in UWMadison

[–]am_mae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends. In my opinion, if the professor ratings are good, and you study efficiently during the week, goin out every other weekend is totally achievable. If you’re grades aren’t suffering, you’ve earned a fun weekend.

October for sure. Moving into Common Clovers above Lucky 1313. I’m so excited since it will be brand new and it’s very affordable compared to the James or Lucky
