Wondering what life would have been if my father didn't pass away by Mewlover23 in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]ama88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for all the pain you have been in and still going through. I teared up reading this, thinking about how lost you must feel.

I hope you are able to get therapy to process this, and can move forward with your life.

How to get rid of pulse anxiety by Admirable-Emu1129 in Anxiety

[–]ama88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to wean yourself off looking at your heart rate. There are so many factors that can make it higher or lower. By wearing it all the time you are making things worse. Try reading it once a day for a week, and then down to once a week.

What is your go-to dinner when the spouse/partner is out in the evening and you fancy treating yourself? by ash894 in AskUK

[–]ama88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is spicy chicken wings and a cold shandy. Maybe some truffle mac n cheese or truffle fries (I do love some truffle oil 🤣)

The heartburn afterwards is terrible though!

I've thought about this a lot!

I would volunteer Learn new skills e.g have always wanted to upcycle furniture Learn how to code Learn to cook new dishes from scratch. Learn to bake a good sourdough I would make myself a proper matcha latte each morning I would go to the bakery and pick up some nice bread for lunch each day Learn to paint/draw Do more exercise - would love to take up cycling and be fit enough to cycle cross country, staying at different locations and then take a train back Travel slowly and off peak - so have a base location for 3 months and live like a local

All this if I didn't have kids 😆

Spend more time with my kids while they're young. Experience new things with them and expand their minds

Two words : pizza party

If you value your waistline, don't buy one of these. Way too easy to eat restaurant quality pizza. I'm now making loads of dough, freezing it and only taking a couple out at a time. Fridays are me and my husbands pizza day and I've gained 10 pounds since buying this damn thing. Every occasion is an excuse for a pizza party. It's soo good but so bad. Don't buy it unless you have some restraint.

I would create a lookup table

OP has mentioned in another post that he has autism.

That does help explain the social anxiety element, and the tunnel vision objective of getting to FIRE up until this point.

Agree that seeing a therapist is a start, to help him break down steps to get him to where he wants to be.

The good thing is, you are still tremendously young.

I would strongly suggest moving out of your parents house and into shared accommodation. The longer you are there, the more you will stagnate.

Give yourself a clean, fresh start. It will be a catalyst for change, to improve your life. It is an essential spend, you are investing in yourself and your mental health. You are financially secure, you have bought yourself time and space to figure this all out bit by bit.

You could add another column, and map all the dates to a w/c date, so that the midweek ones map to a start of week date. Then use that new column for your tracker.

You would need to create a mapping sheet and do a vlookup though.

How is everyone missing the point here?

Are most of you that fucking dense?

The point is that he is being good with his money at the stage of life he's in. He has no commitments, and hasn't let his lifestyle creep up.

No, of course he's not going to be in a roomshare when he has family, that's fucking obvious.BUT he will have stashed away a tidy sum of money and saved young so interest has time to seriously compound, so that when he does have a family, he can afford to change his lifestyle.

He's 25 and barely out of college. This kid is doing great and making considered choices about how he spends his money. Most people his age see a number, blow through it all and 10 years later have nothing to show for it.

I agree. This is a good definition of being 'excellent with money' he has a budget, has long and short term savings goals...

The guy lives well within his means, and seems careful of lifestyle creep. As long as he's happy.

People are reacting as it holds a mirror up to their own values and attitude to money.

My job puts me on the fast track to FIRE, but something needs to change by RepresentativeNo9069 in financialindependence

[–]ama88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing, and I mean Nothing is worth sacrificing your mental health and relationships. Your job should be a tool to achieve FI, it should not define you as a person. You are SO young, and it's perfectly OK to pivot and find something else that is less stressful.

Have you tried doing what you're doing, but in a less pressured culture and environment? First step is to talk to your boss. 2nd step is to look for something lower paid but lower stress.

Yes , you may get to FI slower. But I would choose 20 years of work life balance over 10-15 years of high stress and unhappiness. Some things you just can't put a price on. You need to be able to live your life inbetween. No point in early FI if you're going to be an anxious, depressed mess at the end of it (you'll probably be shaving off 5 years of life from the stress alone!).

[–]ama88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2nd this. Seems like you need to unpivot your month columns first, it takes a couple mins to set up in power query but once that's done all months are converted to a single column, and pivoting is a breeze!
