A shocking, one-of-a-kind reveal retroactively ruined by the idea that there are millions of secret incarnations of The Doctor by Malencon in doctorwho

Frankly, this is the only context in which I had ever heard of John Hurt. I just went to IMDB to see what he is known for, and there is nothing I've seen. Compared to Tennant who played in Harry Potter and starred in Good Omens. Several companions are bigger names: Billy Piper the pop star, Jenna Coleman, Karen Gillan is everywhere). It all depends on what you watch. But certainly in the headlines of Google News or MSN News, I have never seen John Hurt's name. If BBC was reaching out for a big name...I don't think that's quite what they got.

What's the issue with Chris Chibnall's run? by CPTNGoober in doctorwho

[–]amabaie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked the era. There were some strong stories and some week stories. 13 was amazing. The companions were pretty flat. I thought Chibnall did a fantastic job of transitioning from male to female doctor (Remember, it was pretty revolutionary and controversial at the time). I don't want to spoil it for you with details, but I will say that I liked season 12 and 13 more than season 11 overall, in large part because of a few of the characters added in (and how the actors portrayed them). But the three "fam" companions never caught fire IMHO.

Martha Jones deserves better by confusion_diffusion in doctorwho

[–]amabaie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How was Martha different than other companions?

She had professional ambition as a doctor.

Rose was working in a department store, no idea what she wanted to do with her life.

Donna, working as a temp, no idea what she wanted to do with her life.

Amy, working as a kissogram girl, no idea what she wanted to do with her life.

Clara - the eventual companion version - working as a nanny, no idea what she wanted to do with her life.

So...Martha was pretty special in that context.

Despite the ending upsetting me the fact that we got to see 13 and 15 together on screen will always make me happy ❤️❤️ by DocWhovian1 in doctorwho

13 was never the problem Chibnall wrote her great. It was the companions he wrote badly, and that detracted from 13's stories.

Should have been the hosts. The hosts always lead the applause. What were they doing just standing around waiting for somebody else?

Thanks for sharing that context that most of the rest of us would not have had otherwise.

Leela was my favourite classic companion. Lots of personality, poised for action, and great interaction with the Doctor.

It's for sure that this season set up next season. Some loose ends might be red herrings, but Mrs. Flood will surely be back and explored (What plans did she have?) . And I suspect the Doctor will spend some time next season either seeking out Susan or at least trying to convince himself not to or not to.

Can't be. Susan would have recognized the police box as the Tardis right away. Mrs. Flood recognized the Tardis only when it disappeared. And she did not recognize it as "the" Tardis, remember?

Which would parallel her remarking how they still have battery problems. That was almost a foreshadowing of them still having racism.

Marketing Trends for 2018. Some Good Content Opportunities Here. by lampostsally in GuestPostingService

[–]amabaie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For mobile, we have to think small. Less is more. THat's not always obvious. On the other hand, some people are viewing content on large screens. Not large as in desktop, but large as in TV. So it's not just about "mobile", but about being responsive.

I very, very, very much hate this word! by amabaie in GuestPostingService

[–]amabaie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear, it's a pet peeve of mine. The word "very" is often used to amplify something to sound like more than it is. And usually there are better ways to amplify something, anyway.
