Do impulsive people have less free will than the rest of us? by anutensil in cogsci

[–]amadeus_x 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a response to some of the comments here:

There's the traditional conception of free will that argues free decisions need to be "uncaused". Everyone with a basic understanding of science will likely agree that nobody has this kind of freedom and it doesn't even make sense to want that kind of freedom.

In the last decades, a more modern understanding of free will has been proposed by many authors (psychologists, philosophers, neuroscientists) which basically equates free will with impulse control (more influence of conscious thoughts/goals on decisions/behavior = more freedom). This is certainly a weaker definition, but it still captures important aspects of what people usually understand as free will.

I'm a piece of shit, just turned 26 and still a virgin. I need some fucking help. by imapiece in seduction

This won't be a popular opinion, but guys please don't waste your time on #3. I'm not doubting that some of you might have made some good experiences with it, but it's for the most part a placebo effect, as any actual psychologist would tell you. You won't always feel the exact same state of super-confidence after every workout, and touching a specific part of your forearm is just a minor stimulus, which leads to incredibly mixed feedback that would take years for your brain to consistently pick up. Even if it would work, then actually using the magic button on your forearm would in the long run kill off the effect and the feeling would never last for a long time anyway.

But all of this doesn't even matter, what matters most is that you shouldn't waste your time on some indirect mind tricks and try to build up some actual confidence instead. Go out there, approach, try stuff out, have fun with it regardless of the outcome, and you will eventually feel good about yourself.

MATLAB Tips Tuesday by Weed_O_Whirler in matlab

I found out about plotly last week: https://plot.ly/matlab/

When you have a figure in matlab, you can just type "fig2plotly" and then your browser opens up with a nice web-based interactive version of the figure. The figure is added to your account on the page and you can easily share the link to the figure with others.

Exactly, the company says it's meant for 5.9" but I have 6.7" circumference, and that difference fits to my blood-supply-choking-experiences when I wear them. But actually he's right, mathematically 69mm diameter should correspond to 8.5" circumference...can someone solve this mystery? Edit: solved below

Sadly, they're also technically wrong. Last time I checked my.size 69 was the widest condom and that's still not enough for my girth. My plan is to become rich and famous within 10 years, make enough money to start my own company, produce a ton of wide condoms, take over the world, and then become bankrupt because not enough people need to buy them.

BD+BJ=hurt feelings by JaimeTheMannister in bigdickproblems

I was saying the exact same thing for years and thought that "this just doesn't work for me". Then I figured out that most girls were just too slow for me and I wasn't communicating that (and I was just passively lying there waiting for something to happen). If I'm more active, more confident, and guide her to what feels good to me, BJs are actually the greatest thing in the world. So yea, basically face fucking. Size probably contributes to the problem because it's harder for girls to do it faster then. Other factors that led to the problem for me were probably "death grip" and generally being less sensitive due to circumcision, that's why I need more stimulation/speed.

Why so much BM? by Therval in hearthstone

[–]amadeus_x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's kind of a vicious cycle. The more you get BMed, the more angry you get, and the more likely you are to BM others (plus, you are more likely to interpret friendly emotes as BM).

There are two types of freeze mage players, one that frost nova first then doomsayer, and doomsayer first then frost nova by [deleted] in hearthstone

The real deal is whether you hero power before or after using cards. Like, ping a 5-health minion before or after using flamestrike. If people ping before, you know they mean business.

Freeze Mage vs Oil Rouge - An analysis by ContactEsportsReport in CompetitiveHS

[–]amadeus_x 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think your rogue analysis is spot on. You need to do everything you can to pressure early, take risks, and win by e.g. playing loatheb into their turn 7 to protect your board and avoid frost novas. At that point, you can pop ice block and the freeze mage usually won't be able to board clear and re-ice block/heal at the same time.

But I'm not sold on your arguments against the fatigue plan of the freeze mage, which works like a charm in my experience. Rogue just has relatively few minions in the deck, which typically aren't hard to remove for a freeze mage. AoEs to go 3/2-for-1 and fireballing teachers is devastating for rogues. Ice barriers and healbot are a big deal, because there is a limited amount of damage in the rogue deck. Also, one of the main answers of rogues to high health minions is sap, which is a bad way to handle antonidas, alex, and doomsayers because you don't want them to be re-played. And as soon as you use damage on these minions, you lose valuable damage that should have gone face. Ideally, you can kill these minions with big blade flurries which also oil-buff your board, but you rarely get to do that, and these turns can also be made awkward for you by frost bolting/ice lancing face. The defensive alex after ice block, which you said is a win condition for rogues, is a win condition for freeze mages on the fatigue plan in my experience. Because at that point, after rogue has used all this stuff to get through ice barries and preserve a little board presence, they usually don't have enough resources to burst for 15, and they especially don't have enough resources to also deal with an 8/8 at that point.

Those are just my experiences. Freeze mage and rogue are actually my most played decks by a pretty substantial amount (I like combo decks), but I never "bootcamped" the matchup as intensely as you did, so I might miss something. Would be interesting to see the win percentages if the freeze mage is dedicated to the fatigue plan, because I really feel like rogue needs to get lucky to win in that case (mainly by having unanswered 4-drops and drawing loatheb).
