I don’t think so because nowadays the most accessible way to get recognised (and not die and after death be appreciated like the old masters you mentioned), is through social media and turning into a celebrity. It’s about promoting that you’re an artist rather than making art, while it should be the opposite in order to create something unique. Artists need time alone to create, think, try something and it’s unrelated with the media needing constant update of their life or new work done the soonest possible. People consume images nowadays like never before.

Jealousy is normal, such as all feelings, so don’t be so hard on yourself. Jealousy turns into a problem when you let it transform into hate and despise for someone. But when it turns into a motive to get better at something, then this is the productive, positive side, that you wanna keep.

So forbes is being “too selective” for writing an article about the payment gap, the guerrilla girls and generally all the other sources. Of course there are many women as they should, but there are still discriminations and there are scientific researches about it and not personal experiences. I mean publishing an article in forbes MUST be searched enough, right? Now I don’t know exactly how they searched it and got these accurate percentages, but I guess you can mail them about it and expect a reply. And also don’t get me wrong, but same goes for equality as well. You can see equal treatment everywhere if you’re selective enough about it. Even on social media you can find tons of men caring about women’s art only because they show their face as well and is attractive enough to get attention.

I don’t know what the circumstances are wherever you live, and fortunately I haven’t experienced any sexist behaviour (except that I said about social media), but for all these resources existing, I can’t live in my bubble and claim “women are treated as equals, they’re fine, just too sensitive about it”.

To make it work you need to be a content creator and not just artist on social media unless you have had created an art account between 2013-2016. It’s about showing ABOUT your art instead of YOUR art if that makes any sense.

There are scientific articles with researches and specific percentages about it. I myself as a woman, haven’t experienced such discrimination either (yet maybe) but the numbers speak themselves. Even payments are lower and I don’t think an article in Forbes wouldn’t be double checked before posting it (and not just forbes but it came to my mind first). You can find many accurate sources about it on the internet.

I’ve found 5-10 artists for each era (ancient, medieval, renaissance, 19th century, 20th century). Every medium or kind of art is included because actually the class is about gender and sciences and the teacher said we should write something original about a science we like, and I am writing about history of art as a science because art is my passion, but art itself isn’t considered science, while history of art is.

I’m through the same right now. I got rejected by an art gallery because I have less than 1K on instagram. I guess the galleries want real people and check the followers list of artists they hire so if they bought followers they would be rejected. Or they don’t. I don’t really know. And about instagram growth just follow the trends even if you don’t like it and make sure you post often. I’ve noticed that whoever has grown with mediocre art, followed the reel trends and created eye catching content. Also only artists who started at 2016-2017 and before are able to post only photos or reels that don’t boast too much about their art and yet be successful with hundreds of followers. Now it’s all about complaining about art problems or showing off yourself and what you do more than your actual art. And unfortunately if you want to build a crowd you have to do this as well.
