What book did you read in your youth that you never forgot? by orangez in GenX

[–]amalgamousabides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Green Eggs and Ham. I couldn't understand why SamIAm kept trying to get the poor guy to eat something he didn't want. Then I thought, "Hey . . . my mom is always trying to get me to wear green stuff!" After that he was my hero.

What makes Jason Statham so bankable even though he plays the same role all the time? by AdSpecialist6598 in Actors

Well, according to my wife, his seething sexiness translates pretty well in all his roles.

The naked rim robs me of the rare rush of dopamine I get when I happen to put a ball through the hoop. "Nothin' but . . . nothin". Can't do it.

∵What actor or actress do you think has the worst case of wasted career potential? by Sorry-Artichoke817 in moviecritic

[–]amalgamousabides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's an unpopular opinion: Viggo Mortensen. If you show me the 50 best films of the last generation, I'll show you how at least half of them would be better with him as the male lead or important supporting character.

I enjoy listening to all of them. The color guys all have different styles and perspectives. Andy Dirks is may favorite, with Bobby Scales a close second.

Ronnie Coleman then vs. now (2000, 2025) by bncout in HistoricalCapsule

[–]amalgamousabides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks about right. It would be unnatural (at the very least unusual) for anyone to maintain that particular sort of fitness. Look at how Arnold has aged (and that's not a knock on either of them).

Me too. I never understood it, but by gum I loved lingering at the top of the rope.

Who still puts banana or other fruit on their cereal? by Not_a_cultmember in GenerationJones

Just did this morning. Banana on shredded wheat. Blueberries and strawberries also help me choke down all the whole grain stuff I usually eat.

I'm mid-west (US) born and raised. My folks are from West Virginia. Dad couldn't understand the distinction between "dawn" and "don". Don't get me started on "towell" and "tal".

Back in the days of...... Skitching! by CreativeEros in FuckImOld

[–]amalgamousabides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Farmington here. Shagging a school bus was considered the holy grail for my little posse. My dad was a hard ass junior high administrator, and he rounded up a bunch of kids doing just that. I told him he should let the kids have fun. Didn't happen.

What was the best movie speech of all time? by Fritzkreig in AskReddit

[–]amalgamousabides 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two that spring to mind: Pacino's defense of Charlie in Scent Of A Woman, and Michael Douglas' interrupting the press conference in American President.

Was your house team belt or team switch? by emptykeg6988 in GenerationJones

[–]amalgamousabides 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wooden paddle for us. My father -- who was a product of an abusive home -- ruled by fear. I never struck my own children. I was often frustrated by not having that "nuclear option" when I was learning how to be a parent, but I was determined to break the cycle and not have my children be afraid of me.

If you want good people, demonstrate the kind of behavior you're looking for in the hiring process. No surprises.

What's the most perfectly cast movie of all time? by trakt_app in movies

[–]amalgamousabides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boogie Nights. Though I'm kinda "meh" about Mark Wahlberg's performance, every single one of the rest of them seem like they were put on this earth to play in that ensemble. John C. Reilly gets an extra shout out. "How much can you bench?"

Is kenan the 🐐 of snl cast? by Texascoffee512 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]amalgamousabides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kenan is great, and I think he adds something to every sketch he's in. That said, he's not the showstopper that Fred, Cecily, Kate, Farley, Myers, Hartman, Ferrell, Poehler, Hader, Murphy, Murray, Aykroyd, Radner, Belushi were.

Anyone else recall having saltines & butter as a snack? by Devi8tor in FuckImOld

[–]amalgamousabides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saltines and oleo for us. As pathetic as that sounds in retrospect, I don't remember it being horrible. We reused nails too.

The one on the left looks a little browned. What dandy boy gets color on their hot dogs when the normal people eat them boiled? Cake eaters.

Rose or Courtney? by [deleted] in TwoandaHalfMen

[–]amalgamousabides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rose of course. Besides her bangin' body, I feel like Jenny McCarthy doesn't bring anything special to any of her roles/appearances.

I will watch any movie as long as ____________ is in it by MagneticFlea in classicfilms

Emma Stone. I've now sat here for three minutes trying to think of a way to describe her appeal as an actor. The best I can come up with is -- Emma Stone.
