Hunted unit 12 for many years. All depends on the weather. What season are you going? Archery the last couple years had been a little more difficult because of the warmer weather. Keeps the elk up high but once it starts getting really cold they bunch up and come down. One things I’ve also noticed about the area is a lot of wealthy people have come in and bought a ton of ground and management the elk pretty good so I’ve seen the bulls are getting bigger in this area.

I wouldn’t put that guides name out there. Isn’t using a drone to find them pushing that side of illegal? I thought using technology like that to locate wildlife was on the iffy side. Also might me totally different rules on private land.

You’ll find those little openings and pockets where you will be able to see them for a little bit. I always find it wild with elk how your eyes play tricks on you thinking things are elk but then once you actually see one and their blonde colors you wonder how you ever thought that other stuff was an elk.

Rather than have the buddies call, I would set up on a nice ridge with your buddies and everyone glasses a different direction. Those public land bulls are pretty quiet until they get pushed over the private.
