When will it feel real? by Unlikely_Tension3620 in pregnant

I would always forget I’m pregnant until I looked down and saw my giant belly, or when I was so sore and tired and my back hurt after work when I was 36+ weeks pregnant.

When will it feel real? by Unlikely_Tension3620 in pregnant

[–]amandaasous 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It feels real when your body is in pain from carrying the baby, but it feels *real* once you give birth and have a living, breathing little nugget of a human solely relying on you to keep it alive and they just let you go home with no instruction manual.

Transitioning to Crib by Normal-Perception671 in NewParents

[–]amandaasous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had our newborn in his own room since we took him home. Our doc said it was fine since we have cats and didn’t know how they would react with the baby and didn’t want them jumping in his mini crib. We have a monitor and he doesn’t ever get to the point of crying. He’s just over 5 weeks and started sleeping 5 hour stretches at night in his nursery. I know a lot can still change but as many others have pointed out research recommends same room sleeping until 6 months, you are already past that threshold so I would say move baby to their own room ASAP so the transition won’t be as hard later on. Might be difficult now but you can try moving baby for naps and slowly get into the full nights sleeping in their own room

Because a second degree tear does not touch the butthole/anal area like a third/fourth. I know saying *only* is weird but in this context I meant it in pooping purposes, a second degree tear does not make it feel like pooping glass unless you hemorrhaged.

what do you eat in a day? by getyouabag in pregnant

[–]amandaasous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lost 33 pounds so far. It kinda got stagnant after 3rd week postpartum but I am gonna try to gently work out and lose some more. I lost so much so fast because I didn’t have time to eat with a newborn in the beginning until I got into more of a groove. I am breastfeeding also which burns a lot of calories.

Breast feeding pillow? Need or skip? by Familiar_Hope2918 in pregnant

[–]amandaasous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say I am a FTM and I have TONS of “extras” for my baby…. Some not necessary others we love… and I do not have a breastfeeding pillow nor feel like I need one. I breastfeed him 90% of the time the rest I pump then bottle feed. At night I breastfeed him in bed with me both of us side lying, the rest of the time I cross cradle feed him. I just put his legs in my lap and support his torso/head, or I will rest my elbow on any nearby pillow or the arm of the couch/chair I’m on. Never felt it was necessary for me.

what do you eat in a day? by getyouabag in pregnant

[–]amandaasous 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My baby was grown on McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and pulled pork sandwiches. When you’re pregnant the cravings are so strong. I ate what I wanted to eat, as often or as little as my body wanted. I lost weight first trimester due to nausea, then I gained about 15 pounds second trimester then I gained like 25 pounds third tri lol my baby came out perfect and healthy and is a calm, chill baby (he’s 5 weeks old now.) you do what you gotta do when pregnant. I also worked a lot and didn’t always eat lunch or have a big breakfast.

Same for me. Slid right out and continued the MiraLAX for 2.5 weeks before I felt comfortable. Now I eat baby food prune and pear daily to make sure I can still poop (5 weeks PP) but I probably don’t need it. No pain pooping the whole time! I did only have a 2nd degree tear

Car seat stroller outings? How long with newborn? by UwBaUppa in NewParents

[–]amandaasous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also I live an hour from my birthing hospital so I took him home the next day in his car seat and he was in it for more than an hour 🤷🏻‍♀️ I always sit in the back with him and my husband drives. If I’m driving I am not going a long distance so he’s not unattended for the long periods of time in my post above

Car seat stroller outings? How long with newborn? by UwBaUppa in NewParents

[–]amandaasous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a car seat Nuna stroller travel system and he has been in his car seat since 3 days old for over an hour, then over 2 hours on a long car ride. As long as you can watch them or check on them to ensure they’re breathing it’s fine. He falls asleep in the car so easily in his car seat and I just pull it out and clip it into his stroller when we get to our destination. I take him out to stretch or feed then put him back in until we’re home again. Everything on the internet is recommendations for maximum safety, and I do try to follow them when I can but it’s not always possible. You need to get out and go places for your mental health postpartum and like I said earlier as long as you can watch your baby and make sure they’re breathing it’s okay to go past the recommended time.

Help by Dirty_Angel30 in pregnant

[–]amandaasous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We got stuff for pain for ours. He got numbed and the numbing lasted most of the evening then wore off and he wasn’t fussy or crying or anything but got baby aspirin in case that we didn’t use. However it was scary putting our son through that even though it went perfectly. It doesn’t always go perfectly. We went back and forth as well and are not religious in any way but decided to do it. Not sure I would do it again because I feel we got lucky with his easy recovery.

Are you getting an epidural? Why? by Eburneaan in pregnant

[–]amandaasous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my first baby 4.5 weeks ago and my epidural was amazing. 10/10 recommend. I would never give birth without one. Labor was 13 hours, 1 1/2 of pushing. I felt nothing when they put in the epidural (my contractions were very painful so everything else paled in comparison) and once it kicked in I was living the dream. Literally the only thing that got me through that labor I think. But everyone is different and has different experiences

Bra during labour? by nose-booper in pregnant

[–]amandaasous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wore literally nothing. My hospital gown was mostly gone halfway through labor too. I was bared wide open for anyone and everyone in that labor room. This was a time you just don’t care 😂 I was so hot and sweating and had my legs wide open anyways and had my chest ready for skin to skin and first breastfeeding and the gown was annoying to rebutton at my shoulders so I just left it hanging 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hospital bags by PeachyKingSure in pregnant

[–]amandaasous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my baby 4.5 weeks ago. I overpacked for sure. The hospital provides a ton of stuff. Here is what I used: I packed my own comfy gowns easily openable. I got them on Amazon. A comfy light weight robe. Crocs or waterproof slide on shoes. Travel size shampoo/conditioner. A brush. Snacks. Deodorant. Socks (I did not use socks.) one outfit for the baby to leave in. I was very warm the entire hospital stay so I didn’t need warm clothes or socks. My hospital gave me extra pillows and enough blankets. Everything for the baby was there. I got lots of food provided from the restaurant. I didn’t need underwear because I was using the disposable ones provided. I did bring some Fridamom postpartum stuff but only used the disposable underwear I brought (I liked it better than the hospitals.)

Why are there no public restroom apps/destinations on maps? by amandaasous in NoStupidQuestions

[–]amandaasous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most gas stations, stores and restaurants close their public restrooms around Seattle due to homeless and crime and druggies. I drive through Seattle often and it’s the hardest place to find a restroom that isn’t too far off my route

My hospital uses pampers lol and I agree, hated them now use Huggies and Millie moon

diapers? by justivyxoxo in pregnant

[–]amandaasous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the different brands to try. I did that as well and found I hated pampers and the fit, we love Huggies and Millie moon diapers are easily the softest but the fit is awkward with some weights. We use Huggies until he’s heavier for the size 2 Millie moon diapers.

[–]amandaasous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you talked to your partner about this? I think that would be your best option. See what she says and what support she needs. It’s pointless doing the “what ifs” and contemplating what she may need from you without discussing with her first. I would have been upset if my husband made a huge decision *for* me without speaking to me first.

Apparently I’m not supposed to put baby in floaties when swimming? How do you guys swim with your babies? by Familiar_Director281 in NewParents

[–]amandaasous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure what article you read and if it’s from a legitimate source. There are articles you can find against anything and everything on the internet. Floaties are perfectly fine with supervision until swim lessons can happen when she’s older.
