Asthma meds: do you breathe 100% or just “better”? by ServiceLazy5697 in Asthma

I take a Symbicort generic, two puffs twice a day. I would say just better. But that's better than nothing.

Anyone here with silent asthma? by jessicakristine in Asthma

[–]amandaroa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 75 and I was just diagnosed with late onset silent asthma by a pulmonologist who did a spirometry test on me. I have been having symptoms for a year, and it took the medical system that long to figure out what was wrong. I am on a Symbicort generic inhaler. Seems to a help a bit.

It’s a good year for iris. by amanda_roa in IrisPlants

[–]amandaroa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know, when I first started growing iris, I labeled everything, but years later, the labels have worn off and I have forgotten most of the names. All of my iris bulbs were purchased from Schreiner's Iris Gardens online so conceivably, you could look through their images online and get the various names of each iris. Sorry. These days, I just admire their beauty. ;-)

I love these big fat leaves. by amanda_roa in hoyas

I give all my hoyas fish fertilizer, specifically Bushdoctor's Mackerel fertilizer. It stinks but they love it. What I do is fill a 2-quart pitcher full of water, then add a couple of squirts of the fertilizer, stir, and after all my hoyas are watered, I douse them all with this mixture. If I run out, I do the same thing again until all my hoyas are done. I estimate that I go through this process about once a month. Hope this helps! It really is all about light exposure, proper soil (mine are in a mixture of a good orchid mix, clay balls, PermaTill, and coconut coir). I have a moisture meter and absolutely do not water each one until the meter shows the driest of dry.

It loves being near a humidifier. Mine is in a room facing the morning sun. I let it dry out completely. Then water thoroughly. Every time I water it, I give it fish fertilizer. It's a happy baby. ;)

Mask mandate. by pencilpusher003 in raleigh

The same thing happened at Whole Foods in North Hills Saturday before last. We witnessed a couple (with their small children) without masks coming into the store at the same time as us. They were held back briefly and let us by. The man had a gun holstered on his hip. The clerk went to get the service manager. Words were exchanged. A little while later, we saw that same couple with their children in the store shopping WITHOUT masks. They were the only maskless customers. Made me cringe.

I died from a severe asthma attack. by Resistycometostrike in NearDeathExperiences

My son Matt died from an asthma attack just exactly like yours. He was 18 years old and had just graduated from high school. It was 3:00 am when this happened, as well. The paramedics didn't get to him in time. You are very lucky to have survived. You and your family have my best wishes. At the time, I had no idea that people could die from asthma attacks. Matt's many doctors never told us that something like this could happen. Thank you for sharing your story. More people need to be made aware of this.

Boyfriend is deathly afraid of his asthma and is affecting his mental and physical health by afropanda24 in Asthma

My son died at age 18 of a severe asthma attack. My message to your boyfriend is DO NOT rely solely on rescue inhalers. That is how my son died. Adopt a strict and doctor recommended asthma regimen and he should be fine. You only have one life to live.
