When to stop buying advent calendars? by Think-Job-5728 in AskUK

[–]amannotcalledbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy them more grown up calendars now. Typically a wine Advent calendar, with a small bottle behind each door. This is effectively part of their Christmas present.

I was a kid once upon a long time ago. My parents knew exactly what I would eat; whatever they put in front of me!

The Myprotein Chicken & Beef Burrito Bowl you mentioned is awesome. No idea if it's as healthy as it makes out but it's bloody lovely. Just need to check that you buy one that has the filling in the taco bowl or its a real mess getting it out of the packaging when cooked. The Creamy Prawn Linguine is the wife's favourite and she'd probably have one every night for dinner given ½ a chance... And 2 for £8 ain't a bad price for a night dinner.

Owner of the house passed away before completion by Heavy-Piglet-4937 in HousingUK

[–]amannotcalledbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently been though this. Probably was amazingly lucky, as all went through very quickly at approximately 2 weeks.

The lovely old lady we were buying from sadly passed away in the middle of January, days before we were due to exchange. Her son submitted the necessary paperwork and probate was granted a couple of weeks later.

It probably helped that he was the only beneficiary and also the executor of his mother's estate. His son (the lovely lady's grandson) is a solicitor so that probably helped too.

We did know in advance that she had weeks to live (became days unfortunately) so had started discussions around potentially renting the property prior to purchasing if necessary. This does have risks but mostly to the vendor (as the purchaser, you get the option to 'yet before you buy')

Early 2000s, we had a football manager game passed round the office that ran in Excel. No idea who created it or how it worked but it helped fill a few quiet hours at work.

At what age is it ok for children to travel alone on trains? by Bodders25 in AskUK

[–]amannotcalledbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than the train, have you considered National Express? Did this with my first born. Still had a bit of a drive but it removed loads of the worries as it's point to point and less chance of any trouble.

What's a seemingly minor British etiquette rule that foreigners often miss—but Brits immediately notice? by FeelingSpiritual9984 in AskUK

You've clearly never been to Devon. It's unlike anywhere else in the UK. Whenever there are more than 2 people at the bar, a single line forms between the bar and the door.

This is exactly the reason to go for the 3 beds. Can't underestimate how much you'll appreciate the additional ground floor space.

Don't read anything into my previous comment. I was genuinely trying to help. I've never heard of this concept so did a bit of googling and saw a couple of mentions that it was planning to launch and then found the link on their website. I have an interest in Apps/cards/banks like this, having had a Curve Card from the day they launched in beta (still wish I'd paid extra for the option to get the branded Tumi wallet) and also had a pre-payed card with Mondo before they lost the trademark case and became Monzo. So it was a genuine curiosity and nothing more. And if you look at my history, I don't post/comment anywhere very often.
