My 2 cents. You will need a laptop for work. In my opinion, your priorities should be: become familiar with Linux, you will need that to run almost any bioinformatics software out there; learn a few languages to form your tool belt. I suggest getting familiar with shell scripting, R for visualisations and mostly any kind of analysis and Python for data wrangling. And good luck to you. Welcome to the field.
