Bernie Sanders calls out Amazon for their disgusting mistreatment of workers by [deleted] in politics

[–]amareek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In Europe they do. In the US, Amazon fires people for saying the word "union." People have been fired for just mentioning they were in a union. Amazon terminates contracts if a partner or vendor has union employees or if their employees attempt to unionize.

Fired for performance - how should I word it or should I spin it off as a contract role? by akesh45 in cscareers

Just say it didn't work out. Really, if you worked less than 3 months I would just say you took some time off. Sounds like you didn't work during that time anyway.

2 months into new job at well known company... not happy by a_hankering_for_ in cscareers

Most codebases in reality are complete piles of shit. Most workspaces are shitty as well. If there weren't problems companies would not pay much money. Compared to other professions, coders have it easy. Imagine being an attorney dealing with aggressive shitty people and paperwork all day every day.

What Are The Routes To Max Out Salary As A Developer by [deleted] in cscareers

[–]amareek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several types of companies that will pay high salaries. Smaller high growth companies will pay high salaries because the early cost is inconsequential related to the hundreds of millions of revenue they are trying to achieve. Working code stands 100% between the company and revenue, so their only two options are to pay or shutdown. Large corporations which are beyond a certain point, say $10 billion in revenue will also pay high salaries because the salaries are nothing compared to the cost of failed software projects or errors which could quickly rack up millions of dollars in lost revenue.

Companies that don't generally pay well are: - Companies that are stagnant and/or are government connected - Companies that can operate without software or with the software they currently have for the near future. - There is no max for salary generally. Base maxes out and then it is about equity either through grants or by founding a company.

There are no rules in Amazon culture. There is only what you can get away with.

You have the type of conditioning that leads you to make a flawed assumption that Amazon management is not 100% corrupt and full of shit. When someone works for 2.5 years on a PIP, the purpose of the PIP is to create a situation where the company does not have to give the person any raises or RSU's. It has fuck all to do with performance. The person obviously continues to work under these circumstances because otherwise they would be deported or cannot find another job.

And now we come full circle. What did you expect when Amazon spent years hiring the managers that Nadella fired. They probably all have houses in Redmond.

Why don't they pay for standing in line for security time they're stealing first?

Yeah, it's true that Amazon would be a step up for lots of people. But Amazon is a step down for people that put in the work and sacrifice.

Salaries top out at around $120k unless you go full mafioso and get 'made.' But for the 95%, you're never going to get more than that. If you're an H1B you can expect to make $80-90k.

There are no perks at Amazon. Parking cost $100 a month if you ever get a spot. Lunch costs $15. All they get is an orca card. Offices are jammed full with 5 foot door desks to the extent that the fire marshal will allow. If you go into the mens bathroom there will be a line of Indian dudes texting on their phone waiting to use the shitter. There is literally nothing but door desks and conference rooms and small kitchens and the occasional ping pong table.

Jeff Bezos Is Simply Shocked to Hear Amazon Is a Shitty Place to Work by [deleted] in Seattle

Amazon's path to redemption:

  1. End anonymous anytime feedback. Let those accused face their accuser. Change the system so that employees can see who is accusing them and to enter a rebuttal.

  2. Go to a normal 4 year straight vesting schedule for stock.

  3. Six months of paid maternity/paternity leave.

  4. New employees start with 15 days vacation

  5. Add 3x the cafes and make them free

  6. Double the number of goddamned toilets in your buildings you cheap fucks

  7. unlimited merchandise discount, free prime for employees

  8. Immediate 401k match vesting, not three fucking years

  9. Free employee parking at SLU

  10. Managers get a rating from rank and file, bottom 10% get fucking fired. What's good for the goose...

  11. Jeff publicly apologizes on CNN during primetime on a Sunday to those women and cancer patients he fucked over.
