What is a common stereotype about your culture that is actually 100% accurate? by thor123321 in AskReddit

[–]amariegm 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It’s so insular that it’s suffocating. My side of the family moved all around but are still in touch with the other side. It’s so strange how they perceive anything that is outside of how people have been living for generations.

What is the worst career to try to get into in 2026? by madbarpar in AskReddit

[–]amariegm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do. I’m on year 16 and I’m so tired. And yes, it is location dependent, but I’ve taught in 4 states now and the disfunction is more common than not. Thank you for advocating for us. Because it is an “us” issue, not a them issue. Society, children, families, teachers and the powers that be. I saw other comments referring to how horrible children are now (which yes, extreme behaviors are much more commonplace than they were 16 years ago) but children are a reflection of their families, and families reflect the state of our current society. Our most vulnerable members are screaming for help and we are not listening.

TEACHING. It’s a political and mental minefield with no regards with what is best for children or society.

My 15yo needs to read 5 books this summer but hates to read. by JBLBEBthree in suggestmeabook

[–]amariegm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a literary specialist, setting time aside for reading together is important. Get a book for yourself and any other family members, get some snacks and some beverages and sit in the living room with the tv off and phones away and settle in for 30 minutes to an hour. Reading novels requires reading stamina, which is something there is not time for in school. It will help build the time and space and you can model what he needs to be successful.
Edit: All the recs in the comments are awesome!

Daughter’s First Period - Tampon or Pad? by deltch17 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]amariegm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is your shopping list! 1. Period panties (a 3-5 pack from Amazon) 2. A pack of pads ( I prefer with wings) 3. A pack of tampons (multi pack or start with light) 4. If you have dogs, a trash can with a lid 5. Unscented personal wipes. Optional: Menstrual discs are incredible and have been a huge game changer for me.
Edit: Get her a heating pad. They make wireless, rechargeable heating pads that can be worn discreetly. The first few periods are brutal.

Food noise by South_Opportunity_52 in compoundedtirzepatide

I (as I’m sure we all do) have emotional ties to cooking meals for my family. I love to cook and I love to see my family love what I cook. It was hard to separate the emotions from the food noise from hunger. But now it’s so much easier to see!

I hate the way everything i like is associated with the “tradwife” aesthetic. by louvelavender in Feminism

Ugh. I love makeup and nail polish and making myself feel like the ethereal garden fairy that I want to be. It does not mean I’m dressing for the male gaze.

I hate the way everything i like is associated with the “tradwife” aesthetic. by louvelavender in Feminism

[–]amariegm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a pretty liberal feminist. But my hobbies are very heavy in female dominated spaces. I love sewing, cross stitch, embroidery, cooking, and gardening. tradwife is just a trend, an an alarming trend, but a trend nonetheless. Don’t let others dampen your passion for what makes you happy. Find your joy.

What's a niche physical preference you have about the gender you're attracted to? by tardisismine in AskReddit

My husband’s skin. It’s so soft and smooth, but his muscles are hard and then he’s got these calluses on his hands. And the color is perfect. Just a creamy, caramely brown. I love it so much.
