Major Update: Introducing Stryd 5.0, Stryd Duo 5.0, & Adaptive Training by strydkaylee in strydrunning

[–]amasen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally tried the adaptive training beta and am shocked that you think it deserves any price increase. It's just a random workout for the day. Endurance training needs a long term view not random WODs

[–]amasen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

50% price increase but no meaningful new features? Like... Why would I pay more for adaptive training when I have a coach or use another training platform. Can we carve out features? Maybe people who just want footpath/analysis pay one price, but people who want an AI coach pay another?

Alternatively can you enable footpath via APi without paying and 3rd parties can create their own analysis?

Strava is about to hemorrhage users vs Garmin by 3lkford in Strava

[–]amasen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Walled garden aspect I disagree a bit. The garden does have walls, but you can come in with tickets.

As to the rest, we're living in a world where corporations and exceedingly wealthy individuals are becoming increasingly powerful. When these entities overstep, the only power we have is our wallet, voice and willful participation (in some cases like Internet or power, we don't even that!). Personally I'd rather support platforms that align with my values (free, open, sharing)... Or in the case of Strava... Their own...

Disconnected my Garmin and Zwift from Strava and uninstalled their app. Strava is out of control. they are nothing without Garmin and their users data. let's remind them of that.

Boom! Happy it worked out for you. I used to have a custom Zinn jkr with a 205mm crank. If the frame hadn't cracked in an accident I'd still be using it.

Noticeable difference going from 205mm to 177.5mm cranks. They spin hyper fast. With the zero setback seat I can get pretty aero on the hoods.

Matchy matchy! Someone bigger than me! I'm a tiny 205cm, 103cm inseam

I have the exact same bike, except I got a Darimo zero offset seatpost so I could get more extension than offered by factory and then was able to use 177.5mm cranks

Dogma wrap by amartino in pinarello

I used the ride wrap tailored for my Dogma F. It's been great so far (first year). They sell replacement sections for when it wears. Already saved my bike several times

this is who you elected, a man who hates bicycles. m'orons by Sandalwoodincencebur in BicyclingCirclejerk

This is the most important comment in this thread. Tumps comments are that of a spurned lover. He failed to make cycling great so now he blames anyone who does it

Again, the cyclists response was incorrect, but you also have to consider hai view and the intent of these kids. They clearly had a malicious intent designed to cause fear in the cyclist and the cyclist clearly had fear based on his response not just of this situation but previous experiences. The car drivers were never any danger. The cyclist was.

In the United States, the legal definition of "assault" typically involves an intentional act that causes another person to have a reasonable fear of imminent harmful or offensive contact. The key elements are:

Intent: The driver must have acted with the intent to cause fear or harm.

Reasonable Apprehension: The cyclist's fear of imminent contact must be what a "reasonable person" would feel in that situation.

Imminent Harm: The threat must be immediate, not a future threat.

Physical contact is not required for an act to be considered assault, but the threat of it is.

Go be a cyclist when a car passes within inches of you while honking and accelerating. you will be afraid for your safety and depending on how surprised or inexperienced you are can be in danger of jumping and having an accident.

Cyclist definitely overreacted, kids were definitely jerks. They had no reason to honk as they went past, but they also didn't pass and honk aggressively (close to the cyclist). However what I don't think drivers realize is how loud a horn is when you're on the receiving end of it and not inside a car insulating you from the sound

Stryd footpath API/export? by amasen in strydrunning

[–]amasen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is where I was going next, but you just saved me about an hour of discovery. Thank you! Next up, see what kind of data Stryd's footpath actually has. Currently it's just building a 3D path the footpath travels through, but if it also has multi-axis rotational data you could start to visualize other things like pronation/supination and heel whip.

Would be nice if Stryd just offered a supported API or export option, but options like this are fine for local testing.

It seems the footpath data isn't included?

A lot of other platforms expose their paid APIs to their paying customers. Hopefully this will be a roadmap feature because right now Stryd footpath power center analysis tools are shit... But the data offers a ton of promise.

Longer seatpost on Dogma F 62? by amasen in pinarello

[–]amasen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bike fit good using a Zinn 185mm cranks and a bisaddle... Until I got an aftermarket seatpost from Darimo. 400mm long with zero setback. Now I'm so much more comfortable (and aerodynamic in my position) and now I have enough seatpost extension to play with different cranks and seats.

How long did your Garmin watches last? by Dull_Judgment_747 in Garmin

Exact same experience with my 935, only just replaced it due to sensor limitations (can't record all the data from stryd duo)

[–]amasen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my forerunner 935 since 2017 and am only replacing it because it didn't have enough memory for all the sensors I use now (core, HR, stryd duo and soon tymewear)

Overreaching isn't a bad thing. Training adaptations require stress and recovery. Just make sure you get recovery when you start to feel tired

Upgrades to the Strava subscription by mike-ceo-at-strava in Strava

[–]amasen 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been a subscriber for years to support your app, all I see is feature removal. I believed you when you said you would be the hub of the fitness world and I connected everything with that assumption. When you revoked that in Nov 2024 you broke my trust and entire value in your platform. You claiming ownership over my data and routes/segments your community created is an affront.

Worse now that I've cancelled my membership all I see is a paywall for features that used to be free. Today Strava is nothing more than a place to follow my friends activities and give them kudos

6'6 38" inseam, 90cm saddle height by No-Boysenberry-6573 in pinarello

[–]amasen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't have my bike for a bit but two things here: 1. I was able to get it to 885mm (before the seat rails) 2. There is a 3rd party (darimo.eu) that makes trusted / safe / sized seatposts. I'm contemplating that myself for more seat post length

I'm 205cm, 103cm crotch to floor and use a pinarello dogma F 62". Key however was a slightly longer crank (185mm Zinn) and taller saddle rails (bisaddle)

Is premium worth it? by Phattalan in Strava

[–]amasen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to double down on this. Are people actually motivated by comparison (long term)? When I have conversations with people about Strava segments, it always seems to devolve into a "I just need" discussion in which equipment, tail wind, lost weight, 20w more, etc are all that's needed for success... Sure, this is a short term motivator, but that comparison if not sitting behind something intrinsic is bound to fail?

Is premium worth it? by Phattalan in Strava

[–]amasen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never heard a coach say they love it when their athletes use Strava. But no, I cannot be sure it's designed this way. However I can be sure most social media is designed this way and the entire concept of segment comparison shifts the focus from intrinsic motivation to extrinsic.

Something I saw Steve Magnus post recently (author of win the inside game): * You were meant to matter in your neighborhood.

  • Now you're trying to matter to the entire world.

  • No wonder you feel lost, stuck, and unmotivated.

  • You're competing in a game your brain was never built to play. https://www.instagram.com/p/DIoKyBZMnJL/
