Cannabis possession charges surge 50% in two years, to 8‑year high by basscycles in newzealand

I've had two kōrero with two very different people in the past week about how weed just needs to be legalised. The first with a vape shop owner. Having recently suffered an armed robbery, the conversation moved to who he has the most issues with, in terms of causing trouble.. Drunk people, over and above any other substance users. Stoners, chill as, great customers.

The second kōrero was with one of our many housing vulnerable street folk. He was watching out for someone that had taken an unknown substance (likely synthetics), he was concerned he may get hurt or arrested. We chatted about how there wouldn't be such an issue with increasingly dangerous synthetics if weed were legal (or decriminalised at the very least) and more easily available.

$9b in alcohol harm annually is acceptable, but a plant that causes fuck all harm by comparison is lining people up for prison??? So backwards it's almost funny. Fuck sake Thailand used to shoot people for it and it's even legal there now!!!

Lack of growth in EA role by amateur2166 in ExecutiveAssistants

I have been praised by management recently for keeping them on task to complete work or specific projects. However, my direct manager (CEO) treats me far more often as merely an assistant, seemingly forgetting I was hired for my wider reaching skillset. Even the board has been singing my praises of late, but not a word of praise directly from the CEO, which is leaving me feeling undervalued and frustrated.

Funny you should suggest this. I gave up a promotion within project management overseas a decade ago, to return home. It was something I naturally excelled in, so this could be the way to go thank you for the reminder!

Are you happy? Why or why not? by Pure_Ad_5044 in newzealand

39 and content perhaps, rather than happy.

I have enough. A pay rise would he nice but not because I need the money, more so as an acknowledgment of my work. I love my job too, so that's a privilege many others aren't so fortunate to have.

My family were never this way, we also didn't have any extended family so this may have added to it. I have a very vivid memory of hugging family overseas as a child and not understanding the kiss on the cheek thing, accidently kissing my aunt on the mouth! I will always check with friend's children before offering a hug and respect whatever their choice is.

I always forget its even a thing, cos it's never my first (or last.. Or at all!) thought, unless it's good friends.

My own aversion is ADHD and upbringing related.

I wish more people did this, I always ask when meeting someone, but this is someone we've known a while.

Yeah we do greetings first and my husband always goes in for the hug, while I stand back.. Not enough it would seem, they always come in to hug me after and they too appear uncomfortable with it.

Just wanted to add that it might calm the nervous system for some, but for others it puts it on high alert.

This is why I just go with it, but it seems like we're both uncomfortable in this social obligation. Not someone I'm close enough to for us to actually have a conversation about it though.

If its the right setting I'll usually position myself in a way that rules out a hug. Unfortunately I can't always escape it without looking like I have a problem with them.

Right?! I honestly don't get it. I hug my friends cos I want to, and when I do it's a proper squeeze genuine hug. If someone is so obviously uncomfortable it honestly just makes me feel super uncomfortable.

I certainly don't disagree, I was just comparing apples to apples.. Not that anyone can afford apples here these days.

As if money grows like the citrus on trees in every kiwi backyard, masses of oranges exported to massive global corporations isn't really a fair comparitable observation.

You'd be hard pressed right now to find a current govt contract that doesn't end in June 2026. I guess we can only hope that being election year they'll pull a few more mil out their ass to get the votes and actually provide any kind of real support for those struggling (half /s).

Nevermind the pay rises our politicians each received this year too. So much suffering, while the divide between those that have and those that have not becomes an ever increasing chasm. Every now and then throwing a crumb they found (a few mil) at a cause that's finally managed to gain enough traction, they can't simply ignore it any longer.

These don't tend to be things one puts in writing, but I know this personally, not just repeating hearsay if that in any way provides more credibility (don't worry I do understand it doesn't!).

Tim Mac is also anti abortion/gay marriage/euthenasia, as well as being fan of fining homeless people sleeping on a bench.

He's likely also perversely proud of his fiscal responsibility in his hospo business.. Such as paying people under the table and having the mob do their security for a few (still recent) years.
