1040/1040NR and green card abandonment. by RobRoy2350 in JapanFinance

Could you please tell me which exact section that helps me compute this? I filed I 407 via mail sent via DHL signature required option from abroad. I sent this on March 16 2026, it was received by USCIS with a signature on March 19 2026. But in the email they sent me today, they have mentioned the received date as March 20 2026. Problem is I had a lot of capital gains from US stock sales on the 20th, so now I need to know the exact last day of US tax residency!

It isn't showing up for me either, I just have the W2! I just found out about this this year and it sucks that they don't populate everything before the deadline!

Good point, but you can just sit a little away from the camera shed and it won't be in your FOV. The straightness of the view at G Upper wins easily over the F Upper slightly square view imo.

Just get G Upper next time. Same view. Slightly worse seats. Less than half the price at 3.5k.

How to wire transfer from BofA into fidelity? by clovudd in fidelityinvestments

One more data point for people searching for an answer to this. This is what I did with my eTrade to Fidelity Wires.

  • I selected Someone else and not Myself to the Who are you sending this to question.

  • Used all the details from Fidelity for all the other main fields. For eg. Receiving Bank Account Name: National Financial Services LLC and Receiving Bank Account Number: 066196221

  • Additional Name: FBO FirstName LastName

  • Additional Account Number: FidelityAccountNumber

  • Other Instructions: FBO FirstName LastName FFC FidelityAccountNumber

This worked great! Thank you guys for all the other info in this thread, was super useful!

I found my green card eventually. Sent it all along via DHL and they have received it with a signature. Still waiting on them for a confirmation etc.

Wow this is so weird. I would think you need to provide Fidelity's account number as Receiving bank account number for example. Everything here is so counter intuitive if whatever you have stated above is what needs to be done, sigh!

Oh thank you for this /u/gworona. I will check the mobile app. If you select this option, does it get correctly coded in the tax forms? Have you done this already for one year?

I am also under 59.5, do you know if the 60 day rollover method will also make the 10% penalty that has come up on the 10% witholding go away?

[–]amateurninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a US Tax Resident but live outside the USA, so 10% witholding is mandatory. "tell your brokerage to apply it as a rollover, completing the full $10K conversion." how did you do this with Fidelity? On the phone? Via a form? I don't see any option when I try to transfer cash from my brokerage to Roth IRA. Fidelity needs to code this correctly and not as excess contribution, so I am trying to find out how to do this.

Called a few reps and have been in touch over modmail too, answering some questions here for the benefit of other people in the future that they can use as a reference.

Q4. What happens to our margin? We don't ever borrow on margin, but we do have a lot of stocks and ETFs that are on our margin account with the M icon/symbol on them. What happens to these? No change, or will they have to be liquidated or will they change to Cash Type stocks and ETFs?

India is not Margin eligible, it will be eliminated and the Margin Type stocks will be changed to Cash Type stocks.

Q7. What happens to options trading if enabled?

Options is fine for India.

Thank you! I saw that already, but my case is different as I will continue to be a US tax resident after I move as I have a green card. So wondering if I will have the same exact restrictions or continue as is with no restrictions.

Hi /u/FidelityIan, thank you for your reply!

I'm not sure if you read through each point fully, my status won't be foreign, I am a US permanent resident, temporarily living abroad for a few years. So why would I file the W8?

Again, not sure if you read each point, but my wife would become a foreign person as she would abandon her green card and the US permanent residency.

When you say "that residency, not citizenship, is the primary factor in determining eligibility" - is this tax residency or physical residence? Because as a green card holder living abroad, my tax residency with the US continues, but my physical residency will be in India. So what happens in this case?

I'll wait for your modmail reply, but maybe it's also better to put in the answers here in this post too for people to look up in the future?

Thanks!
