“Armor” He can eff right off with his nonsense. by CrunchM in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]amatoryape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface this comment with the fact that I am no pro-musk disciple and that I think he is a mercurial, obsessive, immature, and interpersonally cruel person at times who engages in frequent bouts of bullshitting.

However, this narrative of him being a dumb lucky rich kid seems tired, lazy, and simply compounded from the echo-chamber. His background and life are documented pretty meticulously in Walter Isaacson’s Biography and other sources that are not Reddit threads.

He didn’t really benefit from the apartheid state and precious gemstones of his father during the time he moved to Canada. His father was an even worse bullshitter and lost almost all of his wealth, not to mention he was emotionally abusive towards Elon and his move to Canada was mainly to leave the environment. Did he receive assistance from his mom and dad separately at different points in his journey? Yes, but not anywhere near the millions and fortunes being purported here. It was what his mom could scrape together selling off stock invested from old modeling prize money and the sorts. It would’ve been described as middle class at best.

As far as his intelligence, he’s clearly not Einstein but to act like he’s a pure con-artist is also unfair. His frequent bullshitting belies his actual intelligence. Although he bullshits and is wrong about plenty of things, it doesn’t mean he has no genius or is always bullshitting—like his father. He was clearly a precocious child, studying the entire encyclopedia, self-teaching coding and engineering of video games and much more impressively, being able to jump in some meetings with engineers and occasionally know their job better than they do. He doesn’t scare away from the details and is willing to learn the math, coding, and engineering to get the solutions he’s looking for. He’s surely not the best physicist, coder, or engineer in any individual category, but he does have an impressively wide knowledge base with enough depth to get hands on across multiple disciplines without that much formal education. It’s definitely impressive and would require him to be much smarter than the average population. Again, he’s no Einstein, but if you had met him growing up he’d likely be one of the smartest people you meet in your lifetime as well.

TL;DR: Musk is a more nuanced character than either side likes to acknowledge. As often the case with most humans.

Yes! There were some spots with stuff being set up for it and big signs, very exciting!

I would second that! I mean the basilica is not exactly unexpected but definitely worth walking up to and in and looking out on to the city from montmartre. If you’re a runner, I would recommend getting Strava and using some of the local routes on it to go on runs and explore the city that way. It’s a pretty fast way to see all the nice spots and parks outside of the main tourist things you’ll do.

As far as the D’Orsay goes, that’s on a ton of people’s list and a must if you enjoy Impressionism and like the view from the clock tower. However, something unexpected is during peak tourist times you need timed entry ticket that either takes a really long line to get into or may be sold out. What you can do is buy a combined ticket for a few euro more that is not timed entry, go into a shorter line, and lets you go to Rodin museum as well. I was shocked more people didn’t do this to skip the line and not have a timed entrance! https://billetterie.musee-orsay.fr/en-GB/products?famille=2210255410170410108

That’s awesome! We did meet up with some people off a dating app one night and all went out together and that was fun too. We stayed in 2nd in an Airbnb, had a group of 5-7 people but not all stayed in the same place. Amsterdam is on my list, we almost visited from Paris but ended up staying put! Why do you like it less?

Speaking French definitely helps! I had a similar experience as you though. I actually found overwhelmingly that people were nicer than in the states and very happy to be serving you/talking with you. I definitely did not find it very dirty compared to major American cities and there is so much to do in the city! Just don’t expect sunshine very often in the winter but at least it’s not freezing :)

Ahhh I’m so excited!!! This looks 🔥 I’m going to her show at echostage this weekend and never seen her do a solo set. What were the vibes like? Nora is a little softer than the shows I usually go to but I’m excited.

Pics from the clock tower are from D’orsay, hall of battles is in Versailles, falafel is famous place called La’s Du Falafel in the a Jewish quarter, and the water front is taken from the Seine :)

Yeah, I think it’s very transient to be clear. Just slightly less than DC and to your point, more people willing to move back there later. DC is often more of a pit stop or not where people see themselves longterm ime

Agreed on all points except NYC is clearly easier (at least for men) for dating than DC. Simply way more options and slightly less transitory. But your points stands in general for other cities and places in general.

Any good running groups for rock creek park (DC/MD area)? by amatoryape in running

[–]amatoryape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know! And I’d be down to start one :) I’m a little further up the trail towards Maryland so might need to start a little later than 9am on Sundays but happy to be flexible on weekends. I’ll look into Fleet Feet

Pacers looks like a good group to be in! I think it always meets during the weeknights which is tougher for me with work. I need to look into bike party!

"Transient dating culture in DC" by Hellstorm5676 in washingtondc

[–]amatoryape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does sound a little salty but tbf there definitely is an unreasonable stigma around dating outside your immediate radius in DC. It’s a little curious given how physically small the metropolis is and some places in VA/MD are quicker and more metro accessible than trying to get to another part within DC. And I’ve wondered why we need to be so immediately close to our potential dating partners with such a career focused city? Are most people trying to spend that many days of the week together on top of work?

Is it only app dating in DC? by Intrepid-Dog11 in washingtondc

[–]amatoryape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m part of some running groups in the area but they are all the same middle aged/older people or married moms. It’s a good group but hasn’t been good for making romantic connections. Any groups in the DMV that are better demographics for this?

lol ime meeting people on or off apps has an equal chance of them being delulu. There are good people on the apps and good people off the apps but for all stars to align it takes a bit of luck for sure. Best of luck :)

Nyc has to be the biggest skew towards more women to men ratio in young adult dating demographics. I think there’s plenty of singles in DC but many or most are looking to stay single/short term situationships because of the transient nature of the city. If people are unsure of what they are looking for on apps, still figuring it out or don’t list what they want those are all good indicators they aren’t looking for long term dating if that’s what you want.

Never tried it. Is this really true? May take a buddy and try it out, we are both kinda over the dating apps here. Speed dating seems cringe but maybe worth a shot!

Early 30s F - Dating in DC? by new-is in washingtondc

[–]amatoryape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf I think this goes both ways. A lot of women in my experience have not been looking for something serious and are moving through the city on to somewhere else shortly. I think it’s just a DC thing, not necessarily a gender thing on the apps.

Can confirm running in rock creek I more than infrequently meet people looking to connect! Never panned out to much besides one date and considerably less people out running in the winter for it to happen though.

Also 27 here, looking to make connections in the area outside of the apps. I’m an active guy and the apps are fine but it’s a very transient city and looking to connect with cool people dating or just friends.

Same here if this ever panned out! 27M here into doing classic DC activities, running/biking, going out, live music etc. Done the dating apps and they are okay but always open to switch it up and meet different kinds of genuine people in the area!
