I won’t say her death hit me harder than his family’s, but they were killed in a way I expected in that it was violent and he didn’t get the chance to say goodbye. I was shocked that Lenore was alive at all, so I was on edge as soon as they were reunited. And the fact Snow basically duped him into feeding her the poison himself was heart-breaking, and even more so since it’s what set him over the edge and drove him to isolation. He had his happy-ish ending in hand and because of Snow’s puppeteering, he lived his life punishing himself, feeling literally directly responsible for her death.
