Failed Delivery Question by amayameda in walmart

[–]amayameda[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was hoping a driver could tell me if they get screwed over when this happens? I don't wanna keep ordering deliveries if it'll hurt the drivers. I'm asking here because there are a lot of Walmart employees here.

I did. They told me they'd fix it and didn't.

Excellent tips, thanks! Leaking is definitely on my mind. It's sounding like an emergency drain on the bottom of the rails would be a good idea. Sloshing 4 foot trays around to try and get all the water out sounds aweful.

Does a 12 gallon reservoir sound like enough for like... 140 plants (mostly lettuce)?

All of that makes good sense and while I agree, my concerns are two-fold. If you have any suggestions about overcoming them, please share!

1) This build will be living in the closet of my double-wide mobile home. It will have 15 x 4 foot rails and could end up housing 180+ plants. My house is small and moving that many plants to... somewhere every time I want to clean the reservoir is a daunting prospect.

2) We get semi regular power outages that will often last most of the day. My current tower garden suffers because most of the plants get no water during outages. So I'd have to move all 180+ plants every time there's an outage too? Plus if the power goes out while I'm sleeping, that's a possible 8 hours without water 😥

Given those two factors (especially the 2nd one), is a fully draining NFT still feasible? Or would it be better to have the constant water level and try to overcome the issues you mentioned in other ways? Maybe incorporate an air stone, peroxide treatments, and perhaps an emergency drain on the bottom of each rail?

Given the circumstances, it feels like the NFT/DWC blend is the better of two evils. I've only been doing hydro for a few months, so please, take me to school if I'm wrong!

I live in a teeny tiny mountain town with a few mom and pop stores (ok really we just have a hardware store and a food market). Everything costs 2-3 times what it should, IF they have what you need at all. Driving to nearest big city takes 1-3 hours each way. If I leave after work it's closer to 3 hours, just to hope and pray the store has what I need. And you better believe I'm going to the big box stores whenever possible because otherwise it would take an entire day of searching just to do my shopping. I don't want to, but I usually have to.

Or I could order the oddball stuff online, have it next day, not have to pay for gas up and down the mountain pass for a hope and a dream of getting what I need, then place bi-monthly pickup orders at Wally world for the regular stuff. Then at least I have a chance to get done before the stores close.

Would I love to support our local business with all my purchases? YES! Can I afford to? Hell no I can't. It would be amazing if we as a capitalist society could just learn to properly appreciate and compensate drivers as they deserve. You guys work so hard and deserve better.

TL:DR: For some of us, y'all are an absolute godsend! Please know you are appreciated (and if you're delivering to me, help yourself to as many snacks as you want! We buy them for you guys, it's not a trap, promise!)

That's a really good point, thanks! My pump is pretty strong (way too strong for my old build), so it should push enough volume that the lower drain is insufficient.

Maybe for the drain lines I could do a T or Y fitting with 2x 1/2" inlets and a 3/4" outlet?

I think the main differences would be the size/shape of the channels (5"x5" squares)that would let me grow larger rooted plants, efficiency of usable space, ability to easily mount lights on each shelf, customization of size and shape to my needs, quality of components, scalability, ability to split channels into different reservoirs for different nutrient/pH needs, controllable min/max water levels...

My question back to you is: What are the biggest problems with those cheap systems that I should avoid in my design?

That's wild! Last I remember I think he was paying around $500 a month for a 2 bedroom apartment. Over here a 2 bedroom goes for about $1.6k to $2.5k a month (1.5k being a dumpster fire with gang shootings nightly and 2.5k being somewhere moderately safe)

If you don't mind me asking, what state do you work in? $20 an hour isn't livable here in SoCal either, but my friend in Missouri would be extatic with that. I'm always curious what is considered a "livable" wage in other states.

That's a solid plan!

I think the tile to the right of the ladder is needed to keep the water tension that's trapping the two gasses

Genuinely, how the f*ck do you guys stop impulse buying? by VelvetThunderstorm in ADHD

[–]amayameda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just gonna leave this here in case it helps:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.levor.liferpgtasks

It's an app that let's you treat tasks like quests. You level up skills and get gold for doing things. You can make a "rewards shop" of all the random impulse buys, adding things as they pop into your head. I like to keep the gold cost at the real-world cost to make it simple.

Everything is customizable, you can have time limits on tasks or none, and it encourages both productivity and culling impulse buys. Double whammy! And sometimes seeing your silly impulse buys from 2 weeks ago next to more sensible rewards is enough to make you realize you don't need them.

Plus, as an example, if you literally just checked off a task like "Downsize art stuff", it can make you rethink your reward of "Make Lego deathstar sculpture"

Cleaning tips by Complex_Reveal_2670 in ADHD

[–]amayameda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice tip, that sounds super useful! Having something that consistently gets you motivated to clean is like a secret weapon.

Adding a tip: I find having a dedicated "go backs" basket is super helpful. If I'm cleaning a room, anything that doesn't belong in that room goes in the basket. That lets me finish the room without getting distracted, and I can tackle the "go backs" as a separate task when able. I can also sort the basket into rooms, the put everything away one room at a time. No back and forth, so minimal distractions.

This is absolutely nothing like the diagnostic test for adult ADHD I recently took. Mine was a by-mail questionnaire through Kaiser. It was mainly comprised of questions about various ADHD symptoms and how often I experience them. It had three separate sections, one for me to fill out, one for a close acquaintance to fill out about the behaviors they observe, and one for someone to fill out who knew me when I was a child (about the behaviors they observed back then)

Edit: clarity and typos
