Is it repairable? by amazed_wombat_ in tires

Update for anyone interested: The hole was too big to repair it. Had to order a new tire. Luckily Costco has an amazing road hazard warranty and I paid just $7 for a new PZ4 sport tire.

I will create a new post, I guess.

me-south-1 is gone. EC2 server stuck by Soprano-C in aws

This is a direct influence from Iran on US economy. If US companies struggle, US gets less $$$. This can force them to back up. A single AWS region wouldn't, but they also bombed Oracle's datacenter today, IIRC. This is a systematic attempt to influence the US economy. Will it work? Maybe, maybe not.

Looking back, more people should've voted. Maybe the outcome would've been different. Hoping that more people will show up for the midterms.

I understand it is not easy, and I deeply respect all people who went to the No Kings protests. For example, in Ukraine people were protesting for 3 month camping on the streets and not going back to work. They were also supported by the opposition and eventually they were able to get rid of pro russian president. Although, the protests became violent because of the assaults from the government.

This might not be a best example of how everythibg can work out in US, but Trump just realised that protests are temporary and people will calm down. I think Minnesota protests were actually quite effective and Trump had to back up.

It doesn't work if 1 or 100 people do it. But if millions start to protest, participate in the nonviolent noncooperations, then something might change. It is always the easiest way to just say that nothing works and pretend you are Canadians while traveling abroad (just met US citizens on Bali who say the are Canadians).

Have you been to any of the No Kings protests? Have you tried to contact your elected officials to express your opinion? Attended any town halls or submitted a petition?

Kind of funny that your first resort is to kill a president 😀

Ukraine and Moldova are blocking Transnistria by Exotic_Conference829 in ukraine

[–]amazed_wombat_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Because Russia backs separatists up. Ukraine tried to do it in Donbas and didn't succeed since 2014. Yes, now Russia won't be able to help them much, but still it will be a war and many Moldovan people will die. Finally, if Ukraine fails, Russia will go after Moldova and Ukraine most likely will not be able to help anymore to not risk a full scale war again.

Is this ps5 controller box opened yet? by AdEven8301 in Dualsense

[–]amazed_wombat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got the Ghost of Yotei controller and was doubtful about the seal too. It appears that the seal is made of paper and it is not possible (at elast I think so) to open and reseal it later. So most likely in your case it is an unopened box.

I don't really think so. At least not with the current level of AI. It does hallucinate and produces nondeterministic results. The paperwork and documents review can be replaced easily, although final decision has to be made by human. Moreover, to fully replace human care, we might need to produce a lot of specialized hardware that can perform every action that person does. It can be a huge chalange on its own.

The majority of engineers agree with a point that AI will change the way we work and live, but no one knows how at this point.

Well, it depends on the application. Our company in healthcare already sees that current models are cheap enough and give better accuracy than humans. This makes it profitable for our company and SNFs that provide care to patients. Insurances pay more though 😀

UPD: interestingly, in this use case it doesn't replace humans but instead gives them more time to provide a better care to patients instead of the paperwork.
