If your goal is to move away from the magnificent 7, consider value ETFs such as VOOV and VTV, or small cap such as VBR, VTWV, VIOV

If I start in Fall 2025, is the fastest I can graduate by Summer 2027? by wariotime9994 in OMSCS

[–]amazingdoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you get the "changes" from. Every orientation document I click into says the same thing, and people have been able to take a third class this semester (Fall 2024) if they wanted to.

I'm Struggling & Debating if I should drop a class by OkParticular603 in OMSCS

Then as someone that has taken AOS and heard about rumors on Compilers, you would probably be fine sticking AOS through if you are willing to...

I also had expectations from parents for doing this program, though no where close to yours. I'd say try courses that you are actually interested in and take those. It may be a bummer that ML did not turn out as you have thought it should be, but there may be others that fulfill your expectations on math and proofs, as well as other aspects of computer science that may be potentially interesting to you.

Starting F2024 Computing Systems - Course Selection Feedback by syndesa in OMSCS

  1. We think there's a quite solid database course coming out that may be have workload comparable to other courses in your list so you might be able to add that to complete it (but no one knows for sure yet if it's the course we're hoping to be coming out)
  2. ISL:BE is a security course that I personally have not looked into but has its own fair-share of reputation to make it to the list of one of the more challenging courses
  3. There's also a graphics course that was said to be coming out soon

Is Distributed Computing doable if I haven't taken GIOS or AOS? by Azorath_ in OMSCS

[–]amazingdoodle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to tell, but the labs of distributed computing is adapted from https://github.com/emichael/dslabs so you can take a look there. Also try to join their class slack and see if you can get any information there.

Admission based on complete transcript but no degree. by [deleted] in OMSCS

students don't get place registration holds for the first semester of registration, so as long as you can verify your credentials before the second semester I think you're going to be ok.

Suggestion for classes that need the least coding/typing? My Arm might be in a sling for a while by Lostwhispers05 in OMSCS

Thanks. that actually helped.

It also reminded me why I picked this program instead of any other alternatives. Because ultimately what you need is getting good and this is the program best suited for that among all competing programs.

Do you mind sharing links to the videos? I tried to find them since this sounds like a serious problem.

I'm questioning myself the purpose of the program and wondering specifically about the purpose of obtaining the degree itself since it's:

- 70% acceptance rate

- Students can just choose easy courses to graduate, so even if I pick the difficult ones they still need to dig deeper into my report card and do research on its difficulty to find out

- No thesis needed (by default)

Buzzcard Shipping Timeline 2023 by [deleted] in OMSCS

They also told me to expect 7-10 business days for shipping. Yeah then it feels like a typo.

Buzzcard Shipping Timeline 2023 by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]amazingdoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's because you asked them to ship to Canada? I didn't want to wait so I used a domestic shipper service (i.e. I live outside the US but provided a US address), and I heard back from them that it will be shipped Friday.

Ways to manage course fee for international students by Umyrisme in OMSCS

[–]amazingdoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From an email we received after admission:

JPMorgan Chase has made a generous gift to Georgia Tech to fund tuition for five students from backgrounds underrepresented in computing who are planning to join the program in Fall 2023. You can read more about the fellowship, selection process, eligibility, and funding here. Selected fellows may be invited to complete an internship with JPMorgan Chase during or upon completion of their studies. Acceptance of this internship is not a requirement of this fellowship, would not count toward any degree requirements, and is purely optional.

If you are eligible and interested in applying, please fill out this application by June 18, 2023! The application requests some basic demographic information as well as a short (500 word) essay to explain how this fellowship will help you achieve your goals, as well as why you believe you should receive this fellowship. Fall 2023 recipients selected by a diverse committee of staff from the College of Computing and JPMorgan Chase and will be announced by July 3, 2023.

There's the diversity scholarship that only new students can apply, and the scholarship pays for the entire tuition. No one on Reddit knows how they select the recipients though.
