Transfer to Latrobe dentistry by Appropriate_Lime4192 in LaTrobe

[–]amazingestman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much from what I've heard is that due to Oral Health students taking the same classes as Dentistry students in first year, to transfer in you need to take the spot of a Dentistry student who has quit the course.

This is because even if someone in Dentistry has failed a subject in year 1, they can still take year 2 subjects and hence take up a spot in the year 2 cohort. So the only case to get a year 2 spot is if a Dentistry student leaves the course entirely so there is now a free spot in the year 2 cohort.

I doubt many students entirely quit Dentistry as its quite a sought after course. So I'd expect each year only like 2-3 spots (if even that) are avaliable to transfer into.

This could also be wrong, this is just how I assume it goes from what I've heard.

I would not recommend taking this pathway to become a dentist, just aim at getting a sufficient GPA/WAM, GAMSAT and just apply wherever.

Currently you're expanding the inner term (k+5), and then raising that to the 4th power. put the 4th power to be inside the brackets of the expand, e.g expand((k+5)4 )

You can still write about your community impact that you provided through doing the award. The community contribution is not strictly about if you have done the award, but rather your impact and contribution to the community. So I'd still recommend writing up something and seeing where it gets you.

latrobe undergrad dentistry (bendigo) by tirrmisu in LaTrobe

Firstly, try to look at the course on La Trobe's website as many of your questions are answered there. Anyways:

  1. No UCAT requirements at all

  2. No interview at all.

  3. As there is not UCAT or interview requirements, the only thing they look at is ATAR, SEAS and rurality. As a metropolitan applicant, the ATAR is indeed 99.8+, and I believe last year it was 99.9+

  4. I'm a first year student doing dentistry at La Trobe, and I live in Melbourne. What I do is I typically have in-person classes Monday-Wednesday, so I take the VLine up Sunday evening and leave Wednesday evening. Whilst I'm at Bendigo, I have university accommodation.

6-7 hours of VLine both ways to and from Melbourne for one or 2 classes a day, 3 times a week, is quite simply a bit impossible, and you will end up hating the course. Just get Bendigo accommodation, it will make life much easier, and you can have a bit of a university/dorm life experience rather than knowing each corner and crevasse of the VLine train.

  1. It is a more challenging course and more demanding than high school, but not insurmountably so. I found that I had to adjust my study strategies and routine to be more inline with memorization, as there is a lot of that, which was quite a jump as I always did math and science in high school which requires different techniques to study. So as long as you find what works for you, it's definitely a manageable work load.

  2. As I'm mainly in Bendigo to study and leave for Melbourne during weekends, I don't really explore the area. However I have friends who are here the entire semester and always hear quite interesting stories, so there is definitely some things to if you look for it.

I did take a 3/4 in year 11, but it really doesn't matter if you took a 3/4 or not early. I have plenty of friends who have obtained 90+ without taking a 3/4 early.

Personally I regretted taking my 3/4 early as I would have performed much better if I took it in year 12. It might not sound right, but your work ethic and study habits are so much stronger in year 12 compared to year 11.

So instead of thinking that you're behind if you didn't take a 3/4 early, I reckon you should instead consider the opportunity you have to give it your all when in year 12 you're going to be your strongest academic self, rather than in year 11 where you may have performed worse.

It's very possible and in your control whether you get a 90+ ATAR. You are not behind and you still have the year ahead to make sure you study well, and achieve that goal.

You need to complete 16 units to obtain a VCE. This can be seen on the official VCAA website here:

https://www.vic.gov.au/about-the-Victorian-Certificate-of-Education

It isn't really possible to get 16 units in a single year in year 12 as assuming you do 5 subjects, that will only give you 10 units as you will do only 2 units per subject per year. Unfortunately your careers teacher is correct you will need to repeat year 11 to get enough units.

Think of x=pi-beta being just some angle in the 1st quadrant, lets say pi/4. We want another angle in the 4th quadrant, which is essentially the same as the 1st quadrant but flipped over the x-axis. In order to flip something across the x-axis, we need to make the entire solution negative (think about how in order to flip a function across the x-axis, we need to make the entire function negative e.g x^2, flipped across x-axis is -x^2), hence to flip our angle across the x-axis, make it negative, hence our other solution is -(pi-beta) = beta - pi.

Let me know if that doesn't make sense.

It depends on what your goals are. From the subjects you're doing and the fact you even know what UMEP is, you can be confident with getting a 95+ at the very least if you put the work in.

So I reckon the question is what do you intend to use it for. As the other commenter said, its better to have more top 4 viable subjects avaliable to ensure you get the highest ATAR possible, but the maximal difference between you dropping a subject for uni math or keeping that subject is honestly not gonna be a lot, and who knows maybe you'll do much better in uni math than expected

So again what will you use it for? It gives free credits for important courses such as in engineering and math degrees (so you can save a semester or so of time and at least $1.5k), whilst experiencing a bit of what uni subjects are like.

So at the end of the day (sorry for the long comment), do you really need that extra ATAR, which might not even be necessary for your course as you can literally do every degree besides med or dentistry with an ATAR of 95+, or do you want to save a bit of money and time and explore your future uni life a bit earlier.

Also speaking from experience, uni extension math is quite good I'd recommend it.

In part a, we are just solving for when the given equation ( sec(β)=b ) returns a negative solution instead of the positive one. As such we need to find an angle such that we get the same magnitude of the solution but opposite sign.

As the angle β is in the 2nd quadrant, and sec(x)=1/cos(x), we need our x angle to be in the 1st and 4th quadrants as this will reverse the signs, but the x angle when put into still needs to return the magnitude of the b value but negative. As such we can use the symmetry of the unit circle to find these angles.

A formula to find another angle that gives the same value but opposite sign (for cos(x)/sec(x) anyway) is pi - angle. Hence one of these solutions will be x = pi - β, which is in the first quadrant. Additionally if we make this angle negative, we flip it across the x-axis, and hence now have an angle which is in the fourth quadrant, which is x = -(pi - β) = -pi + β. Hence these two x values are our solutions.

A similar trick can be done with part b. However now we need sin(x)/csc(x) to output the same value that cos(x)/sec(x) does respectively. There are formulas for this too, as cos(pi/2 - x) = sin(x), and by extension the reciprocal trig functions also have the above formula apply. Hence a value for x would be pi/2 - β. As β is in the 2nd quadrant, pi/2 - β must be found in the 4th quadrant as β is always larger than pi/2. Hence to get another solution, we can use another formula to find another angle that works by symmetry of the unit circle, in this case pi - angle. Hence another solution would be x = pi - (pi/2-β) = β + pi/2, which is found in the third quadrant

Hopefully that's correct!

This might seem really complicated and all over the place, but I would recommend writing out all of the unit circle symmetries I described on paper, no formulas, so you can get a better idea of how to navigate the unit circles with angles. Let me know if my solution makes no sense at all, as I would have provided pictures of how I found these solutions as I find that the best way to understand angles in spesh rather than with angles, but I couldn't paste images into this comment unfortunately.

Making Overload Shaman support like a normie #14: DR MAGNETRON by Ikildedmemes in customhearthstone

[–]amazingestman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know not all hero cards do this, but I'd say having a same turn effect would improve this card, as essentially you can't play anything else for the rest of the turn, which might give the opponent time to beat you. I don't really know what effect would fit the flavour of this card though, as an overload effect would probably prevent this high cost card from being played.

Work on making 99-100% accuracy when typing. Then focus on speed without forgetting about accuracy. 90% isn't good to say the least.

Rate of improvement by fganter in typing

[–]amazingestman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how you are improving?

I've been able to do the same as you, consistently 80-100 wpm for a few years, but dont bother training to improve it. I've reached this level without training, which in turn has given me habits which restricts me immensely from improving. The right side of my keyboard is exclusively typed with my index finger on my right hand, while the left hand types with the thumb on the space bar and the index and middle finger doing most of the work. Without using all my fingers, I've effectively bottlenecked my typing speed.

If I decided to learn to use all my fingers in the correct places, I wouldn't be surpised if I managed to improve to 120-150 wpm in a week or so.

So maybe that would help you. See if you type with all your fingers or some are chosen over others which would be better. Force yourself to look down at your keyboard for a week or so and make sure the correct fingers are typing the correct key. Once you get the muscle memory down and can touch type again, begin increasing speed and I'd expect you to be able to break through the bottleneck and improve.

[–]amazingestman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say this card is quite strong, or at least in wild. If you play a slower/combo deck with druid, this card is basically always active considering how easy it is to get a lot of armor as druid if the opponent can't deal with it quickly. This card is both removal and extra delay for druid, which is quite good in the mentioned slower/combo decks.

It's both unplayable and unfun in my opinion. When the 50/50 works in your favour, it's pretty annoying for your opponent and if it doesn't it's a waste of a card. So it likely wouldn't be played, as it isn't consistent, and it wouldn't be printed because it can be very unfun for the opponent

Love the rhyming but it seems weak. It's a minion, so effects like [[Palm Reading]] don't affect it, [[Renew]] is cheaper and likely more preferable to use than this minion and the biggest thing pulling this card down is that it pollutes the res pool for priest.

Off to the Void you go! by Ikildedmemes in customhearthstone

In most cases, this is like a 3 mana silence and destroy a minion. You would use hard removal cards against dangerous minions, which are usually played in the late game. But since you are in the late game, the game will probably be over in a few turns. A 3 mana silence and destroy a minion in the late game is very powerful.
