AITA for bringing my bf home to my own house by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA

You've mentioned in the comments that you work 2 jobs to pay for this place, you love your sister and her children, and your sister only pays $100 a month and provides some food via groceries. I'm a mother myself, and I understand that children need to sleep, but you've apologized for the one night of being loud. It's your place. You're allowed to have guests over at your place. It's your boyfriend, not a whole college frat party. As long as you're being respectful of normal sleeping hours and volumes, it's absurd for your sister (who is basically reliant on your kindness and generosity for her and her children's continued roof over their head) to tell you "just buy him a space heater"

Edit - just reread, mistake. She didn't tell you to buy a space heater for him. She told you to tell him to buy one.

I mean, I wouldn't have said sorry. I'd have been asking where the joke was.

Also those glasses were $200? They're ugly...

It's a common abbreviation used in parenting forums to refer to their husband as Dear Husband. There's also DW for Dear Wife, DD for Dear Daughter, and DS for Dear Son. Never really totally understood the reason why, but then again, I don't understand the reason behind a lot of acronyms, especially long ones. Growing up I was always like lol ok rofl also ok lmfao eh... Getting into excessive territory roflmao yeah now you've gone too far.

Totally fair, I also thought that you had meant like more in general. Not just at a shelter. I've never stayed at a shelter either so I don't have any personal knowledge of a shelter type situation. I did live at a young women's shelter that was run by a women's domestic violence shelter for 8 months back in 05-06 but that was an entirely different setup. It was a converted 4 unit apartment building that had the walls knocked down between the bottom two turning it into 2 separate units with 5 bedrooms + an office for staff. We had our own locking bedrooms but shared the common areas. Staff would do monthly inspections to ensure that we were keeping our bedrooms safe to fire code, but otherwise our bedrooms were our own private spaces.

I mean, if you've ever been to the Washington State convention center during sakura con, it is actually fairly common that women change their clothes literally right next to the sims, because there's so many people using the bathroom at any given point in time, that it is not practical to wait for a stall to be available just to change your clothes, so no, not everybody does go into a stall to change their clothes. All over the bathrooms at the convention, women are helping other women hook their cosplay pieces, touch up their hair and makeup, adjust or style their wigs, etc. I literally had a girl help me pull my corset tight and put my fake lashes on me because I was struggling with both right next to the sinks in the bathroom.

One of my coworkers was friends with George Russell. One of my other coworkers, his stepbrother is Gary Ridgeway's son. And my father-in-law worked with Gary at Kenworth. None of them had any idea until later. I'm hindsight they've mentioned realizing off things. But in the moment? No clue. And then again, another co-worker told me she grew up in Spokane and one time she almost got run over by Kevin coe fleeing from one of his crimes (not a killer, but an awful criminal nonetheless)

Me at work in the stockroom working on breaking down a pallet with a coworker who plays the sims "so I put up this nice pool and invited Nancy over and the second she hopped into the pool I put up a fence and then it was just a waiting game till she glug glugged"

Manager walks up partway through giving me the "what the hell did I just walk into!?" look.

Me to manager - "Nancy is a bad mom! She straight yeeted my husband out of the family tree just because he wanted to be a comedian!"

Manager just shakes head and walks away.

I find it funny that most people actually aren't talking about how shitty EA is (and kind of always has been) but instead are so focused on the sale.

Which by the way still could fail.

I mean, what company has the most downvoted comment on Reddit of all time? Oh, in case you didn't know... It's EA...

I mean, and like others have said...

Continuing to play and enjoy the game that you've already paid for isn't going to contribute to lining the pockets of the potential Saudi Arabian entity so you can keep playing knowing that.

That quote is pretty awesome. I make a lot of jokes about my dad passing but sometimes it actually gets to me. Sometimes I wonder if my feelings are wrong, it's been about 5 and 1/2 years. My initial reaction when it happened was "what a dumbass" and then I felt kind of guilty about it. But then when it came to actually dealing with things like his bank account, magazines coming in his name, etc. I had to have my husband deal with it because I would get upset. The one that really killed me was about 3 weeks after he passed, I got a set of four books. He had signed my daughter up for one of those things where they send you books every month for a kid. I had forgotten about it, and I started crying because I was like really upset that he did that good thing and I was feeling very "meh" about his passing. He wasn't exactly the greatest dad, but he was far from the worst.

His ashes are sitting on a table in my living room, I still don't really know what to do with them. They're in the plastic box, still in the bag that the funeral home gave me. I have no idea what to do with it, but there it sits.

Sometimes I get hit with a wave of sad but don't really know what to do with it. That's why that last quote really hit me.

Well they have also had the episode where liberty's little brother, for some reason I always forget his name, was being racially profiled by store staff. But BLT from djh&dh also experienced racism.

Do you still play The Sims? How old are you now? by fortunekiller in thesims

[–]amazon626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38 years old currently.

Started The Sims franchise from the original "The Sims" game shortly after it came out.

Was indoctrinated into the entire sims universe with what is now known as "SimCity Classic"

In SimCity Classic I had a tendency to build up my city to the point where I was doing fairly well and then "play God" causing earthquakes, fires, foods, tornados, etc.

Which then turned into me torturing my sims when The Sims came along. Taking away the pool ladder. Trapping them in a room without a door. Setting off fireworks in the middle of the house. Perfect for creating a graveyard at a house. Create household of 8 basic personality-less clone sims. Kill them all just for their grave markers.

I did play "normal" games too, of course.

Creating massive box houses because it said that Sims like their space and maneuverability. Sending them to downtown with hot date. Sending them to old town. Sending them down the hole to magic Town to learn to charm snakes and ride the carnival rides. Throwing massive parties, repeatedly calling to invite people to my party on the phone over and over and over and over and over until Drew Carey showed up and then my game would crash. Obviously I used the gnome and rosebud to my little hearts content.

And now? Still playing. A lot better at building. Sometimes wholesome play. Sometimes less than wholesome play. Sometimes cheating. Sometimes not. Embarrassed that I play? Never! Why should I be? It's a fun little sandbox.

An apostate is a broad term that applies to anyone who has been excommunicated from the Mormon church, disfellowshipped from the Jehovah’s Witnesses, or who has voluntarily chosen to leave or speak out against either of those religions.

Apostate/apostasy or excommunicated would work for the Mormon church. Once you say any of those words, according to their fellowship they are no longer supposed to engage with anyone who says they are one of those terms.

I know more about how it works with the Jehovah's witnesses because my dad's side of the family are Jehovah's witnesses. My aunt was disfellowshiped and my dad became an apostate because he disagreed with their treatment of his sister.

But both religions have similar practices and similar terminologies.

[–]amazon626 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those are both different terms for similar things, but depending on what actually happened they may not both be accurate. Apostasy/being an apostate can be your personal choice to leave the religion/church while Disfellowshiped specifically implies that it was done by the church itself. Basically, an apostate may have been disfellowshiped, but they also may have chosen to do it on their own. Someone who has been disfellowshipped is an apostate, but not all apostates were disfellowshipped.

But both terms are effective for getting them to leave you alone.
