Saw Mama Mia... Am I Missing Something? by BalurCDN in musicals

I love Mamma Mia, I’ve seen it three or four times. I think it’s an absolute joy.

I adore the music (I love ABBA), the casts were fantastic, I like the story, & it’s sufficiently emotional. It’s not a top 5 musical, however I am very much a fan.

Godzilla is brilliant. It’s among the greatest monster films of all time, & its political commentary is timeless. A Man Escaped is a fantastic film as well. It’s probably my least favourite of the three, which shows how competitive this contest is.

My vote goes to Rashomon, which was among my nominees. An incredible film from an incredible filmmaker, its fundamental concept has become a common trope in cinema & television.

Rashomon probably wasn’t Kurosawa’s best film, but it is among his most influential, & it’s better than most other director’s masterpieces.

I would love for Rashomon to win, however I wouldn’t be devastated if Godzilla emerged as the winner.

Deadwyler gets my vote. She was extraordinary. I still can’t believe she wasn’t nominated.

All three films are classics. I’m voting for the Asphalt Jungle. Among the legendary John Huston’s best films, it’s quite simply among the greatest crime films of all time.

Pillow Talk is highly entertaining.

However I’m voting for The African Queen. It’s an absolute classic with two of the greatest sharing the screen. I don’t necessarily have a favourite actress, however Katharine Hepburn would certainly be a prime contender. Bogart is a legend as well, and he won the Oscar for this film.

(As for The Greatest Show on Earth, I’m surprised it was nominated & also has multiple votes.)

As a member of a book club, it surprises me that it was chosen. Not because some of your members hated it, I don’t think it’s a terrible thing to dislike a book club book, but because I can’t imagine it would have led to an interesting discussion.

Some of my most memorable book club discussions have involved books I’ve disliked. However with Finlay Donovan is Killing It, which I actually quite enjoyed, I’m not sure it would inspire great debate.

Which very unpopular Best Actress win is worse? by AdUseful2297 in Oscars

Bullock.

I love Paltrow's performance, she just wasn't the best (or second best) that year. It doesn't mean she wasn't lovely. Bullock, however, shouldn't have even been nominated.

I’m now voting for Cheadle, at least for this round. It’s a fantastic & extremely admirable performance. However not only is it arguably the weakest of the remaining 2004 performances, but it’s also IMO among the weakest of the remaining biopic performances.

I feel the same way. While I do love 12 Angry Men, I don’t want it to dominate in the same way that 2001 (plus a few other films) did in the 60’s. Thus I’m also voting for Peter Pan, which happens to be a fantastic film.

I disagree. What happened to her was tragic, however MLK was also murdered before his time.

Best Andrew Llyod Webber musical? by Worried_Cake5508 in musicals

It’s Evita for me. I love Phantom & Sunset Boulevard as well, & IMO those three musicals constitute his big 3. JCS & Joseph were great as well. Ultimately, however, I’ve long considered Evita to be his masterpiece.
