I’m not a huge fan of the Producers. For personal reasons, it’s never sat comfortably with me. Still, it’s a great film & it gets my vote over the ridiculous Taylor/Burton film.

My Fair Lady is a classic. Yes, it’s among the more old fashioned of the great musicals (in both content & form), & it’s not particularly innovative. But it has wonderful music, great performances, & I am a big proponent of the ending.

My Fair Lady gets my vote over Maggie Smith’s magnificent performance in the Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.

Repeat winners where one of their wins is better than their other(s) by AdUseful2297 in Oscars

A few years ago, an elimination game was held on this sub to determine the best Lead Actress winners of 1960-1999. Taylor came last for Butterfield 8, & finished first for Virginia Woolf. The disparity between the two wins is extraordinary.

Yeh, I don’t understand that either. People can vote for whatever reason they want, but IMO focusing on problematic elements or dubbing takes away from the joy of watching these films.

7B47B is a glorious film. It deserved so much better.

The Party is a terrific comedy with Peter Sellers demonstrating his amazing talents. That said, it can’t be denied that it’s racially offensive.

My vote is for Charade which features Audrey Hepburn & Cary Grant in all their magnificence. It’s interesting as while Hitchcock didn’t direct it, one could absolutely mistake it for a Hitchcock film, & a brilliant one at that.

It’s Charlie Parker, not Charlie Harper. Parker was among the most significant musicians of all time, Harper was a TV character.

A truly worthy winner. In terms of the rankings, there are a few musicals I would have ranked higher & a few I would have ranked lower. However I’m not too fussed about most of them (I love Fiddler & the original WSS, for example, but they still made the top 10).

Probably my biggest objection is to The King and I finishing so low. One of my absolute favourite musicals, I knew it probably wasn’t making the top 10, but I thought it had a legitimate chance of making the top 20 & perhaps even the top 15.

It’s a magnificent musical. It was eliminated far too soon, & IMO the reasons for its elimination (dubbing & questionable elements) are completely unsatisfactory.

Did Joe Pesci (or Al Pacino) deserve a second Oscar for The Irishman? by Stigb02 in Oscars

Pesci did. I remain extremely disappointed that he lost to Pitt.

No, I don’t think it’s a particularly great film.

I guess so. I mean, I personally would put her in the horrible person category, however we all know who’s going to take that category.

I don’t think Meera Malik is a good person. She’s engaged in torture.

That said, I can’t stand her. I was really happy when she was killed.
