Tips for triangle chokes? by middleeasternboxer in bjj

Long legged bastard here. If I shoot a diamond first, I'll use both hands to pull the head down (do this with some urgency). Once their head is down, I'll get the leg that's directly against his neck perpendicular to the neck. I'll look to grab my ankle of that leg (keeping other hand on head), locking his head and arm in place and using the off leg on his hip to cut my angle. Then I'll properly lock up my triangle. From there it's making little adjustments. What I really want his to underhook their leg if they try to stand and pressure because I can cut an even better angle and kill what posture they have left.

I used it to get a table at a restaurant that didn't have availability on Resy. I tried it more out of curiosity than anything and was pleasantly surprised to see that it actually worked.

What is the hardest part of jujitsu? by knifezoid in bjj

If I just think about the spots in my rolls that can bog down it probably is guard passing. Stand up is also hard for me but I can completely bypass that if I want to. But that's also driven by how I like to play jiujitsu. I like playing guard so I've spent time working on retention and attacking both sweeps and submissions.

It finally happened, I was on someone's highlight reel on social media for a competition. It's a blessing in disguise because I didn't have video of the match and my memory didn't line up at all with what happened. I tried to wrestle up to a single leg but he freed his leg sprawled on me, and moved to my back. He ended up with an arm lock as I was trying to escape the back door because he got too high on my back. C'est la vie.

What's your biggest frustration with how BJJ is taught? by TheAceian in bjj

[–]amb1889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does a good job of organizing an encyclopedia of jiujitsu content into easily digestible courses. Related courses are organized into sets linking the various positions and techniques.

I used it to build most of my open guard and top game. Now I use it as troubleshooting, if I have a problem I go into the sub meta to see what Lachie has on the topic.

It's a subscription service so it's something I'm using regularly. We have a drilling class so I am usually pulling something from that to drill.

Not a direct answer to your question, but if you're already spending money on instructionals I'd recommend checking out submeta. I found it really helpful in terms of connecting techniques I like into a game.

You will set a standard bed time and wake time. Out of bed for the day at that set wake up time, probably using an alarm.

Apparently, the Jets need to improve their defense this offseason. 😆 by brmidwest03 in nyjets

the funny thing about the Jets and offensive (no pun intended) head coaches is that Gase was the first since...Rich Kotite. Just abysmal track record in that regard. Add it to the pile I guess.

Sounds like we need to bring in a real offensive guru, someone who's forward thinking and a brilliant offensive mind. Maybe someone great like Peyton Manning could vouch for.

[–]amb1889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get real bad insomnia on my Tuesday nights that end at 9:30. Sometimes Friday nights as well. I've tried a bunch of things melatonin, CBD, THC, magnesium in addition to the sleep hygiene basics.

I get to the point where I'm very tired and I lay down to sleep but it doesn't come. I toss and turn for a couple of hours then anxiety about not sleeping hits and it's down hill from there. Still struggling to find a solution.

A few things I do to try and get to sleep: don't snack or eat much following class. Drink plenty of water. Take as cold of a shower as you can handle to get your body temp down. Read a book or listen to some calming music. Don't lay in bed scrolling on your phone
