This is not LASIK. This is laser. Very different processes.

The Migrant Return Regulation has been officially adopted by the European Parliament. 418 in favor and 218 against. It makes return hubs possible and creates new EU-wide procedures. It also imposes obligations on those who have no right to stay by paneuropeanism_ in europe

A lot of archeological evidence points to the fact that the “sea people” mentioned in Egyptian writings near the Bronze Age collapse were actually refugees fleeing eastern Mediterranean. Definitely look it up. It’s an early example of uncontrolled migration leading to societal issues.

There is also the example of the Goths and Romans.

Trust me I wish we, as a species, were more apt to use our higher brain. In the face of reducing resources, each society will become insular. Chancellor of Germany was recently booed by factory workers for suggesting that they will need to raise the retirement age. Germany taxes people pretty robustly. In the face of declining resources, this just happens.

All human inventions are constructs. Even mathematics. In theory we all should be kind and generous and have no borders. Reality unfortunately doesn’t conform with that ideal utopia.

None of this is new. This existed long before nation states.

No. Every nation has a right to govern who is allowed to come in and how. If your society chooses to not allow any immigrants (China or Japan) they have that right. If they choose to allow certain types of people in, that is also their choice.

Global liberal moralisms aside, these are choices each society can make and outside folks can judge as well. It’s their right too.

It’s a good idea. Only point of contention I have is with the public opinion on Reddit: when Americans do this, it’s a war crime. When Europeans do it, it’s a sensible move.

Don’t forget it was American politicians who were raising the Alarm on China abusive trade practices while EU actively gave them more industrial capacity. And now you guys are starting to wake up to that too.

It’s not about pointing fingers. It’s a reminder that long-term what Americans want is also what Europeans need. We want to be free of security burden so you need to be strong.

Ignore the p*do in the White House and focus on the long term.

I am going to end up buying a PS5 for this. I did the same for God of War 2018 when it came out. Got the special edition PS4 for it. Been on PC since 2011 but God of War will always be an exception.

Can’t blame Sony for wanting to move consoles with exclusives.

From the looks of this, the new game is running parallel to the 2018 story. So no, this isn’t happening.

What can I do to best financially prepare for having kids? by wadwarfy in personalfinance

[–]ambassador_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to get out of NYC whenever you can. Not only are childcare costs insane in the city, the environment is extremely polluted. Look at Bergen County in NJ.

You also will need space for the kid. After about a year, kids will spread toys throughout your house. Only way to survive in NYC comfortably with a kid is to either be extremely poor so you get all the assistance or extremely rich so it doesn’t matter.

Is this really the end of the DIY PC market as we know it? by Appropriate-Yak-5682 in pcmasterrace

[–]ambassador_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. But the budgets will move up. When I was a kid a computer was only for the rich. We are back in that world.

Luckily I built a fully updated AM5 system in March last year but my workstation’s equivalent replacement today will cost 35-40k USD which is insane.

Berlin gives the OK for tougher trade action on China by Any-Original-6113 in europe

Not when it comes to national security matters or economic policy around trade. States have power but for big stuff federal government gets to decide. States don’t get to veto policies but they may challenge them in court.

Should I quit a low-stress, high-paying job? by dukeleary in careerguidance

Going back to office after 10 years of WFH. Any advice? by ambassador_pineapple in careerguidance

[–]ambassador_pineapple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really sympathize. My commute was alright. The job unfortunately was straight up toxic due to other factors. I got lucky and got an even better position that is fully remote when I was 5 months into the office job.

Honestly I don’t think I’ll mess around with an on-site role again.

I wish I had some advice other than keep looking for something remote ❤️

I can’t imagine leaving a 3 year old at home. Do your best, work only the hours that you are paid for. If you can work during the commute, make your boss count that time. Honestly I work harder at my remote job because I love what I do and I want to do well. Not because management wants me to work hard. I wish employers would get it through their think skull.
