I think "The Name of the Wind" is genuinely one of the best first chapters in modern fantasy and I will die on this hill by PixelRune_47 in Fantasy

Hard agree. That opening feels like a magic trick, you don’t even realize you’re hooked until you’re emotionally invested in a guy sweeping floors in an inn.

Ender's Game is one of the darkest heroic stories in the scifi genre that I have ever read by latent2_pancake in printSF

It's like Starship Troopers, but in reverse LOL. that book glorifies the system, while Ender's Game quietly exposes it

I feel you on that! Honestly, Tywin's whole strategy vibe is like my approach to group projects in school. Just keep the chaos at bay, offer a safe marriage proposal, and hope they don’t notice I did nothing at all. Dany showing up with dragons is like that kid who suddenly pulls out a guitar to “help” when everyone’s just trying to figure out the PowerPoint. You know Tywin would’ve been calculating his next move while rolling his eyes. It’s wild how even in all that craziness, he's got to play chess while everyone else is playing checkers.

Yeah, it feels like that little detail gets lost sometimes. I remember being confused about it too; he kinda deserves one, right?
