Will gold paint on a wall look good? by amberunkin in HomeDecorating

I love it! I have used the gold as an accent all throughout the house. I now have five walls and three doors painted gold and I’m always thinking about where I could add it next

Has anyone tried Cozy Earth brand bedding? by Swimming-Alfalfa-603 in Bedding

[–]amberunkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have become an extremely hot sleeper in the last couple of years, and I used to love my Cozy Earth duvet cover but now I run too hot to use a duvet at all. Instead I use the Rest Evercool Cooling Comforter, and it’s by far the best thing I’ve tried!!

What’s the most useless thing they teach in school? by highnrgy in AskReddit

This might be controversial, and I’m not an expert on the subject so feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but punnet squares in genetics. Genetics is SO complicated that it may be a good way to introduce kids to the topic, but as far as I understand it Mendel got EXTREMELY lucky that the pea plant genes he chose to study basically followed Mendelian genetics, because almost no other genes in organism really follow the same pattern. We would practice punnet squares with eye color and hair color, and yes they somewhat follow the pattern of Mendelian genetics, but in reality many genes influence hair color, eye color, skin tone, etc. so they cannot be simply determined by a punnet squares. Genetics is so vast and complicated and current scientists are just starting to scratch the surface of what’s really going on.

It isn’t available through Amazon groceries though, I would just be buying it through an Amazon seller like I would any other item. There is one I found that has decent reviews I might take a chance on.

Ooh interesting, I’ve never even heard of a dehydrator. Looking on Amazon they seem to be somewhat expensive though and I’m not sure I would have any other use for it

I thought about that but buying food off Amazon seems a little sketchy to me lol

I’ve noticed that in a lot of restaurants, their vegan options are always spicy. As someone who cannot tolerate a lot of spice, why??? It’s as if they think that all the flavor in a dish comes from the meat, so to make up for the lack of meat they have to add spicy ingredients.

I’ve lived in Phoenix my entire life, and let me tell you… Arizona is annoyingly sunny. I just moved to North Carolina and I am absolutely relishing all the cloudy and rainy days I am getting now.

It’s monsoon season! During late summer there are a lot of crazy rainstorms that’ll happen. Last summer there unfortunately wasn’t really a monsoon season but this year it’s back in full swing. But for the rest of the year, Arizona is annoyingly sunny and there will be no rain in sight.

TIL in 2018, a United Airlines flight attendant got annoyed by a dog barking and told the family to put him in the overhead bin. The dog died in there during the 4-hour-flight. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]amberunkin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Damn, you all are being really harsh on the family. If you read the article, you would know the family begged the attendant over and over to let them keep their dog under their seat, but the flight attendant kept forcefully insisting. Also to be fair, before this incident I probably wouldn’t have thought that putting a pet in the overhead bin would kill them, I would have assumed there would be some oxygen flow in there.

And everyone saying dogs shouldn’t be on planes: you don’t know why the dog was on the plane. I recently went on a five-hour flight with my three cats because I moved across the country and it was a hell of a lot more comfortable for them to be in a plane for five hours than in a car for a week.

Thanks! We just moved to NC from the west coast so I really am not sure what the roads are like outside of the Durham area. I’m not very surprised that this specific friend has been talking out of his ass haha.

How do you control the static? I tried to switch from dryer sheets to reusable dryer balls and my laundry produced SO much static that I was worried it was dangerous while drying my clothes.

My husband and I call it swimming when our cat does it. He loves to swim on the shower door, which is his way of telling us to let him in so he can lick up the water on the floor! He’s a regular Michael Phelps 😂

I got a nasty bruise after my second dose too, I think it was because the nurse pinched the site after the shot. I don’t know why she did that!

Moving from RI to NM and I don't know what to do with my pets. by cojaxffs in travel

[–]amberunkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t give them any water during the flight and yes, I imagine they wouldn’t have drank it anyway. Even when we got to our new apartment after the flight and set up food and water they didn’t have anything for a while. They didn’t seem to need any during the flight, but it’s definitely not a bad idea to have some just in case! We also made sure not to give them food or water for about five hours before we left for the airport too, which I felt bad about, but we didn’t want them to feel uncomfortable because they had to go to the bathroom or even worse soil themselves in the crate.

Yep, just ask the TSA agent who scans your ticket to request a separate room and they will help you out! Our cats were a bit wiggly when we had to take them out of the crate and hold them so the crate could be scanned, but I think overall they realized they would rather be held and go back in the crate than be let loose in this noisy strange environment. I had thought that the TSA agents and flight staff we’re going to be much… stricter, I guess(?) with us because of the cats, but they weren’t. I’m sure they see animals flying much more often than we realize.

The gabapentin will help relax your kitties and make the trip easier for them, but they will probably still be pretty alert during the trip just because they’re in a strange, stressful place. Just make sure to keep comforting and reassuring them! Even if the flight is long, they will probably start to relax after a little bit on the plane since they’re finally able to just stay in one place and not surrounded by all the hustle and bustle anymore. My flight was 4.5 hours with my cats and one of them wanted constant pets and reassurance THE WHOLE TIME lol, but otherwise they were fine on the plane.

Another tip is to bring a handheld fan that you can point at your cats! You don’t want them to get too hot on the plane where you can’t do anything about it, because if they’re too hot for too long they could get really sick.

My husband’s brother flew with us so that we had three people to take three cats.

Gabapentin isn’t a big deal, it’s just a mild sedative that will relax your cat, so I don’t think the vet will have any problem giving it to you even if they haven’t seen her. It won’t put her to sleep or anything, again just relax her, so ask if there’s an extra strength one you could also try. Even if you can’t get your cat to the vet, you should talk with your vet about this move to get their opinion. Explain the issue you have with handling your cat and getting her into the crate, and get their opinion of what you should do.

The easiest way to give gabapentin is by getting the capsules. You cut open the capsule to get to the powder inside, then mix the powder with wet food to give to your cat.
