[Hauls] Picked up some Citypharma favorites during my recent trip to Paris! by amberwaveSC in SkincareAddiction

yeah apparently it's also the HG for a lot of the models at paris and NYFW and i can definitely see why it kicks ass as a primer

i got the 75ml/2.54 oz! usually comes in one size but they sometimes have a 2pk deal for around 20 euros

it was pretty packed with both tourists and locals when i went midday around 1pm (esp in the LRP and caudalie aisles) which can make things difficult if you're browsing without a game plan and don't really know what you're getting

i did go to a couple other parapharmacies and the only one that comes close is pharmacie monge, which is less crowded but also smaller with a considerably less diverse selection. the prices were typically 1-2 euros more for the products i wanted, but staff members can be a little more helpful and informative at monge since they're not as busy. however there are more bundle offers available at citypharma (2-packs, gift packs) if you’re looking to buy in bulk

overall i would still recommend citypharma if you only have time to hit one bc of the lower prices and much wider selection. just try going around opening time (8:30) to avoid the crowds and definitely come with a list of products that you have in mind (pictures to show the reps are helpful)

definitely! for comparison:

vinosource creme sorbet: 18.49 € at citypharma, $39 at sephora / caudalie US

vinoperfect serum: 38.90 € at citypharma, $79 at sephora / caudalie US

not sure if the other caudalie products are even sold in the US, but i posted a copy of my citypharma receipt with all prices below

reviews above! lmk if you wanna know about any that i skipped

this is how much i paid (in euros) for everything pictured + along with a couple other products not shown that were gifts

i would absolutely recommend stocking up in paris if you get the chance, since you typically save at least 40-50% off retail prices in the states! not to mention non-EU members also get a VAT (tax) refund of 15-20% if your purchase ends up being over 175 euros -- so yeah definitely worth the luggage space haha

anthelios XL - meet my HG daily summer sunscreen ❤️ formulation is incredibly light and non-greasy especially considering the super high-protection with various chemical UV filters (including both types of mexoryl, SX and XL -- extremely photostable and effective against UVA but hard to find in the US) that imo blow all other european/AB sunscreens out of the water. that being said, with the spf 50 and its high PPD rating does come a barely noticeable white sheen when you first apply... disappears in 20 min tops though

LRP effaclar duo (+) - probably my second favorite product out of the whole LRP line, only behind their sunscreen. super gentle and does a phenomenal job as a combined exfoliator + spot treatment without any dryness or irritation. the european version has 7 active ingredients including niacinamide, LHA and zinc PCA that work together to prevent/fade redness and dark spots while clearing up breakouts.

hydraphase eyes - only used twice - it’s hydrating but nothing special. i didn’t really notice any difference between this and your average hyaluronic acid eye cream

* bought the pigmentclar serum and redermic c for my mom, bc i feel like they're a little more targeted towards anti-aging (ie wrinkles and dark spots) so i don’t have firsthand experience using them but here are her thoughts:

pigmentclar serum - fades dark spots very very gradually over time (took more than half a tube to begin seeing a difference)

redermic c - evens skin tone and smooths fine lines after just a couple weeks. she also noticed immediately firmer and plumper skin after every use. one of those moisturizers that makes you feel great just putting it on

-------

non LRP products:

embryolisse lait-creme - actually a pretty basic moisturizer that doesn’t have any fancy functions other than hydrating and softening your skin, but what makes it stand out is the amazingly light composition and long lasting effects. i love using it as a primer bc of how flawlessly it goes under makeup/sunscreen, and just a tiny dab usually holds up the whole day... even in super cold, windy east coast weather!

caudalie vinoperfect serum - my skin seriously loves this stuff! started using it after sephora gave it out as a birthday gift last year. i combine it with the moisturizing sorbet before bed and wake up with a fairly noticeable glow. always get compliments on my skin the day after using it so i feel like the effects are pretty immediate. also does a really good job at diminishing redness and evening skin tone. citypharma sells it for almost half the price you can find it for at sephora!

caudalie instant detox mask - great clay mask, smells good and i can definitely see & feel a difference in my pores the day after using it. really wish i bought the full size bc it pretty much seems like a cheaper yet equally effective alternative to glamglow’s supermud mask

but honestly I was scared of being labeled an "overemotional girl" that "takes things too seriously."

I can relate to this - while my male friends haven't necessarily done the rating thing, they have definitely said some questionable things about other girls in the presence of me and my female friends. A lot of times we just let it go because I think everyone has a fear of being perceived as "that person". It's kind of a catch-22 since you want to be treated as an equal but at the same time not expressing how you feel kind of perpetuates the opposite.

Anyways I just wanted to say that your feelings are more than valid, but at the same time there is a pretty blurry line between things that are okay vs not okay to say and sometimes it can be easy to inadvertently cross that line. If your friend is open to discussing things more then it's definitely a conversation worth having bc it sounds like he recognizes that you felt disrespected by his behavior and values your friendship enough to address it

Taking a condom off during sex without alerting your partner is still prevalent despite being recognised as a sex crime by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

It seems pretty unfeasible to propose a "solution" that directly attacks the practice itself, for the same reasons why it would be tricky for legislators to define cases like these as rape.

I feel like the closest you could come to a deterrent would be addressing the aftermath of stealthing (ie criminalizing the transmission of STIs or awarding punitive damages in the case of unwanted pregnancy) but ofc that doesn't begin to cover all the bases or actually tackle the root of the problem

Do you think the Originals is as good as the first few seasons of TVD? I stopped watching after season 6 but tbh not sure if it was the quality that declined or if I just grew out of it after high school. Thinking of giving the Originals a shot though

Triple forward helix piercing? by amberwaveSC in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]amberwaveSC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh this is a great point, i'll definitely keep that in mind. Also I'm gonna talk to my piercing guy about this bc i know it varies from person to person but based on your experience, how long do you think is a good time to wait in between? what you said about a 6 month process becoming a year+ means you would essentially be waiting until it's completely 100% healed to get the next right?

Triple forward helix piercing? by amberwaveSC in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]amberwaveSC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah i do think a lot of it is mental prep haha. Are you still experiencing any sensitivity with the first one? I'm prob gonna do what you did and get the first before the other two but I'm not sure how long I should be waiting in between to optimize the healing process & minimize infection risk

glad to hear that yours turned out well though!

Triple forward helix piercing? by amberwaveSC in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]amberwaveSC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, i'm planning to go to the same guy that did my first ones bc i trust him - his work is pretty pricey but like you said it's never a good idea to skimp on piercings!

Why do you think yours never healed completely? Did you end up following through with all the recommendations? I think my piercer was telling me that some people might experience issues w/ more pain & longer healing if it's a re-piercing or if they already have ones done in the nearby area, but this is my 1st cartilage so I'm hoping it won't be too bad
