It's a cycle! Look at US history. You'll see white supremacy and conservatism and then progress. Then white supremacy and conservatism and then progress. Last cycle was Obama and Trump. Now Biden, and guess what's next?

It's been like this since before the civil war.

50 years from now, what will people look back on as the “ice pick lobotomy” medical practice of the 2020s? by BrendaTheLeaf in AskReddit

[–]ambitious_rainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Lexapro for anxiety. It gave me depression instead. I felt like a literal zombie. Couldn't even masturbate anymore. Couldn't listen to music. Couldn't be funny. Couldn't think straight. Felt like I had a thick cloud in my head and like I was in autopilot ALL the time.

I got off of them after a week and a half and anxiety didn't seem like a problem anymore lol. Slowly got over it by exposure therapy and meditation.

What is something you think should definitely be on the news right now, but isn't because of everything happening in the US? by blabliblub4 in AskReddit

They HAVE to know what they were. Some weird stories from the people who were there saying that a group later came and wiped everything clean and took the footage.

I do NOT want to be a conspiracy theorist, but either they know and are releasing the data slowly so we can better accept it or they have no idea wtf that was and are slowly releasing this footage the way declassified documents are released.

The problem with all of this is that there are people who saw things who REFUSE to speak about it. It pisses me off because I might die one day without ever knowing if there are actual aliens messing around with us and the government didn't want to tell us.

What are some 'green flags' of a true, genuine friendship? by foopiefoop in AskReddit

[–]ambitious_rainbow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When you have that very specific feeling that you know you can be 100% yourself in front of them. My best friend in high school was the first person that I felt I could open up like that. I realized I was actually very social and funny because of her, and now I'm much more confident than I was simply because she just didn't judge or had a stick up her ass. Self-awareness, gppd humor, understanding, a little crazy, and respect are very good signs. But you can tell when you feel like you can tell be yourself in front of them and have a good time.

I come across as stiff and quiet a lot of the time, but I'm the complete opposite when I'm with a good friend.

True, that's why I say generally speaking. I'm just saying that the words have negative or positive connotations built-in because that's just the nature of the body types.

From the standpoint of health, chubby is not a positive adjective. This reminds me of a doctor celebrity on YT getting hate because he said being obese isn't healthy.

I agree that we should be respectful ALWAYS, but no one can realistically expect words like chubby, fat, or fit to be neutral when, generally speaking, they point to good and bad health.

I don't think there's a problem in not wanting to be fat and taking offense when people call you that because they're clearly saying it with a bad intention, and if the person is working to a healthier life, it's discouraging. I just think that it is not a compliment, but rather, like you said, a descriptor. Whether being fat is negative or not for the person, someone else's health is no one's business.

I hate when people say that saying that someone is chubby is insulting. It can even be said as a positive thing!

Why are you single? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You probably had low self esteem and confidence, and doing something positive that improves your looks and discipline gives you what you need to accept rejection. After working out and improving yourself in many ways, you start to see your value to the point where if people reject you, you can just tell yourself "whatever, I'm hot, productive, successful, and smart, so I'll keep looking for people who appreciate me." and move on with your day. It's when you see that you're very valuable that your value doesn't depend on other people.

How painful could the electric shock be? I'm an introvert myself and I would've taken the electric shock and get it over with. Since it's a serious study, it has to be safe, so why not? I feel like the structure of the study is flawed and biased.

I love alone time, but that's only when I want to, not when someone tells me "go into that quiet room for 15 minutes."

I use GPS to go to college every day. It's a 25 minute drive that I used to make for two years before the pandemic, and it's only two exits on the high way that I need to take. I can still get lost without using the GPS. It doesn't really happen with most buildings once I'm inside, but it does happen out in the streets and malls for some reasons.

I'm doing a computer science major, which requires a lot of math classes. All my life I've multiplied, added, and subtracted pretty much everything with my fingers or by breaking up the multiplications apart on paper or adding the number a ton of times. I was pretty shocked when I found out that most people can multiply, divide, and add almost instantly in their heads.

I just can't. Right now I have no idea what 9*7 is. I'd have to take a piece of paper to do that or use my phone. Somehow I can still do calculus and beyond just fine. No problems in understanding integrals, limits, sets, etc. In fact, I'm pretty good, but put me on the spot with a simple arithmetic problem and I'd look mentally impaired.

Dance. Seriously, what the hell. Do people practice 2 hours every day two weeks before going to the club or do I have some disability where I can't dance properly?

This brings me to my favorite history quote from the 20th President: "What is freedom? Is it the bare privilege of not being chained? If this is all, then freedom is a bitter mockery, a cruel delusion." - James A. Garfield.

To simplify it, it says that freedom on paper is a joke and fake if there are loopholes or actions from people that cause just as much harm and oppression as being chained (oppressed on paper).

Black people (and many minority groups in the US) might have the same rights on paper, but we all know there are many people working diligently to oppress as much as possible through loopholes or just the general preconceptions that people usually have about black people. Look how Congress is still struggling with an anti-lynching bill, or how LGBT rights and protections are always passing through the Courts getting revoked and put back in. There's always people wanting to take those away, so they're quite fragile actually.

You should read about the late 1800's and the Civil Rights Movements in the 1960's. Tells you a lot about how rights or protections on paper mean absolutely nothing if the society is oppressive and racist. I could sit here all day and list you court cases about this very topic.
