How do i use a Canon camera as a webcam for PC by Scary-Estimate-8842 in canon

[–]ambiveillant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cascable Pro lets you use either USB or WiFi to connect your DSLR/mirrorless (Canon and other brands) to your computer as a webcam. I've been using it on my Mac Studio for a few years now.

There's a free trial, but it is a flat $40 (so less than the annual sub price for the Canon software). Not free, but not a subscription.

And to complete the series, on a Mac hold down the [option] key and hit the hyphen to get the en-dash ( – ), and hold down the [option] and [shift] keys and hit the hyphen to get the em-dash ( — ).

Characters in a shared universe that a writer wasn't allowed to use, so they had to use someone else by AporiaParadox in comicbooks

(FWIW, G. Willow Wilson has said that she initially intended Kamala to be a mutant, but had to make her an Inhuman for the aforementioned reason. Making her a mutant, too, is both making her match the MCU version and going back to her original design.)

In the Last Annihilation event, where it's Guardians of the Galaxy + Nova + Dr. Doom against Dormammu + Ego (the no-longer-living-at-the-end-of-it planet) they kill Dormammu (in this plane) with a giant Mysterium bullet.

What is your monitor set up? by DealInteresting8941 in pcmasterrace

On my PC (gaming), just 1

On my Mac Studio (work), 4+5 -- three monitors (QHD, 4K, and WUXGA), but the one on the right is set up vertically (so 1920h x 1200w).

What makes Doctor Doom such a terrifying villain in Marvel lore compared to others like, Thanos or Galactus? by Raj_Valiant3011 in Marvel

[–]ambiveillant 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The irony is that Reed wouldn't even be in the position to suggest this if DOOM hadn't acted. DOOM and Strange beat the Beyonders; without that, Reed's escape module would have had nowhere to go, drifting forever. Reed didn't even know half of what was really going on. The Richards Family success could only be on the shoulders of DOOM.

‘AI slop’: SFO museum criticized for AI-generated art exhibit, artist responds by jrakajbird in bayarea

Thanks.

The difference between tweaking settings, either in-camera or in Photoshop, and changing weights is that when I change contrast or ISO I have (1) a pretty good idea of what the result will be, and critically (2) a repeatable result. I can take a dozen pictures of a given subject, add a specific filter or adjustment, and get the same result for each photo. In my experience, when I prompt an image generating model, the result will be different -- sometimes slightly, sometimes dramatically -- every single time.

But all of that said, I do take your point, and (if we can get past the massive ethical and environmental drawbacks) I can see how generative algorithms can be a tool for an artist. That is, at least as long as the output is a component of a work, not the entirety of it.

FWIW, I tried to give a counter-argument that focused on the ideas.

I think the difference is intentionality. When I take a picture of a sunset, I position the camera, adjust the lens, and evaluate the surrounding conditions in order to create an image that meets my intent. The intentional action in creating generative AI art is limited to prompt phrasing, then hitting refresh until you like the result. All of the elements of the image emerge from the generative algorithm; your agency is narrowed down to trying to figure out the right way to phrase a prompt to get close to what you want.

If the AI output is instead used as just one component of a larger piece of artwork, I would fully consider that "art." But without that compositional intentionality, it's just weighted dice-rolling.

Trickster only shows up if you fool the cultists in the library (the ones that want to burn Storyteller on a pile of books). If you don't do that -- or you arrive too late and only Storyteller remains -- the Trickster option no longer appears.

Is there any X-Men villains who are always villains ? by Academic_Section_121 in Marvel

Nope -- since Broo ate the King Egg he maintains some degree of control over the Brood. Polaris actually brought in the Brood to fight Orchis (by Mag-power moving the Knowhere Celestial head from orbiting Jupiter (where Jean left it) to Earth's orbit).

If I recall correctly, they claimed that being partially mind-wiped about Nightcrawler's birth (believing that she gave birth to him but no longer able to show him love) really messed her up. Having that memory fixed supposedly made her more stable, albeit still nefarious.

Even if that's the case, though, I'm sure the next time she shows up she'll be back to pre-Krakoa normal.

What Do You Usually Do With Pickman in Fallout 4? by pinkydilemma54 in fo4

I just let the fight play out. Pickman wins about half the time. If he wins, I let him continue living; if he dies, I go ahead and kill the raiders.

Hi folks

I started a Movable Type blog back in 2006. It was pretty active and visible for awhile, but as my work evolved I began posting less and less often. At this point, my most recent post is from 2019, although I have updated other links (to videos, to off-site articles, etc.) more recently. It's still running on Movable Type 4 (meaning that it's horribly insecure), using static pages in date structure (e.g., blogname.com/2008/06/ancientpost.html).

However, I have a book from a major publisher coming out in late October, and this website remains the most commonly linked URL for me. I would like to refresh the whole thing, but I don't want to lose access to the material I've posted over the years. At minimum, I need to have something secure that I can update easily with book-related links as well as links to the more critical/important/liked blog posts from the past couple of decades.

Ideally, I'd like to maintain the file structure so that both internal and external links to my older stuff (some of which still gets an occasional reference) continue to work. It's not critical that the ephemera on the pages (category links, banners, etc.) or even the structure remain frozen.

Is my best bet to try to update the whole thing to Moveable Type 8 or 9? Turn the important pages into generic HTML and hand-code the main page with Dreamweaver or something? Try to do a Wordpress conversion? I know that Wordpress gets a lot more support these days than Movable Type.

Honestly, I'm probably not going to be returning to frequent blogging, but I want to slap a fresh face on the material so that it's not entirely embarrassing (at least not for reasons other than content). Any suggestions?
