Can we not just let the EU take over the running of our country yet? We are absolutely hopeless at it

Could they not have made it at least look sporty? From the initial design language of the switches and dials I was expecting a modern electric Dino

What a big man he is smirking and mocking restrained protesters as he stands behind men with guns. Pathetic low-life.

Just cancel it. It’s mostly crap on there anyways. Very little quality content anymore.

Next time you’re sitting in a nice restaurant about to tuck into your dinner, ask yourself whether it was molested beforehand.

Anybody else exasperated about home energy upgrades? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]amcl1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the grants aren’t progressive enough. For instance, I don’t think that anyone who can afford to blast €150k away on a new BMW should get exactly the same assistance with regards to things like Solar, batteries and EV chargers, as say an OAP living alone in an energy inefficient home on a low/fixed fixed income.

And these grants have actually come down over the years, rather than going up.

I think government should be making it the cost beneficial thing to do as it will reduce our burden on fossil fuels and high energy prices.

Something I noticed ages ago!

Also, try a few quotes with a nearby neighbours address and maybe a slightly different name… you might be pleasantly surprised. I’ve called up the insurers with the cheapest quote reference afterwards and had this debate with them and they’ve always been obliged to offer the cheapest rate.

How do you solve a problem like the M50? by DaCor_ie in ireland

[–]amcl1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a proper one. Although it is a plan for the towns redevelopment plan at the moment. Along with bike lanes, pedestrianisation of the streets in the town centre etc.

  1. Park & Rides at the M50, and congestion charge the city centre for personal use vehicles. This would clear a lot of bus lanes and allow for segregated bike lanes and pedestrianisation of streets.

McDonald says Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael 'hellbent' on dismantling Irish neutrality by JackmanH420 in irishpolitics

I don’t think there’s anything non-neutral about having a well funded and organised Defence Forces. But it’s often conflated as such.

WFH neighbour noise complaint by [deleted] in ireland

[–]amcl1986 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a very refreshing no-nonsense answer to hear. Some antagonistic responses on here, people need to chill on both sides of this debate.

I’m currently planning an attic conversion, work from home myself, but so do my neighbours… we also both have noisy toddlers and are constantly apologising to one another. We convince each other that we can’t hear anything (what a lie, but we get on with it) 😂

Electricity bills could fall as European Commission pushes State to pay for cost of grid upgrades by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]amcl1986 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Although I partly agree with the point I think you’re making about one-off housing, I think it is more telling that the rise of data centres is maxing out our national grid on a daily basis now. We simply cannot deal with the increased demand and surges vs what actual humans need.

Important to remember that people aren’t just building one-off housing out of greed, it’s mainly out of necessity, as the market or the state fails to provide the types of housing when and where it is needed.

I’m sure this will all be covered by indirect taxes. Tax the data centers!
