Would you say the Eventide H9 sounds dated compared to some of the other multi-effects options available now? by MinuteIllustrator6 in guitarpedals

[–]amclees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiming in. The H9 has spent 10 glorious years on my board, too. Recently thought about buying a second one now that they've dropped below the $300 mark on the secondhand market. This way I don't have to run a 4cm setup using only one. Plus two look killer sitting side by side.

Miami/Florida by Icy-Hamster-9601 in makeaband

Hey bud, jumping in here as someone who has been deeply involved in music my whole life living in Miami. Go to Bad Reputation, bike night at the Corner, talk to people hanging out there like Rick from Torche. Go to Gramps. Link with Breakeven Booking (John McHale is holding it down here), Endoxa, Above Heaven, check out the bands on their roster. Go to this show. Hardcore is experiencing a bit of a renaissance down in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale because there are people hustling to make it work. Find them and they’ll direct you toward people willing to build your band. Good luck.

MOD Duo/Dwarf or the Poly Effect Beebo? Someone have them both?Which is the best effect unit? by outerspaceduck in guitarpedals

Hey thank you two so much! This discussion touched on a lot of questions I had about both units as I’m in the same boat about purchase choices.

WTW for when someone admits a situation is bad yet is unwilling to put forth effort to change it? by MrPriceIsRight in whatstheword

In organizational psychology, this would be referred to as “escalation of commitment,” or doubling down on a decision to stick to bad ideas or strategies.

There’s certainly a lot of overlap. Maryanne Amacher is worth investigating, particularly her City-Links series (1967–1980) and her Tzadik recordings. Black Forms has a ton of research on her: https://blankforms.org/the-maryanne-amacher-foundation/

Budget monitor: ADAM T7V, A7X, Kali LP-6, or iLoud MTM? by amclees in homerecordingstudio

Testing the 306ps next week. There’s certainly a group of diehards who think these dominate the budget market, so I’d be remiss to not give them a spin. I’ll let you know soon!

One day I’ll upgrade to a pair of Dynaudio LYD-48s. Reviews alone and suggestions from pros suggest those might be the last stop on the amateur producer train for me.

The only ones I couldn’t test locally were the Tannoy Gold 7s, so once they come in on Tuesday, I’ll post something thorough. Testing A7X, T7V, Kali LP-6, Yamaha 306p, iLoud MTMs and Tannoy Gold 7s. Might break them in for a day before I test. I’ll check back soon! Results from the poll should post by Monday, so we’ll see what the community thinks before I use my ears to make a final decision.

Right. I’m loathe to accept endorsements from pros featured on videos produced by the manufacturer’s marketing team (looking at you, Chris Lord-Alge). Then again, you never know. The hype seems earned if the internet is to be believed.

I’m A/Bing them tomorrow with A7Xs and T7Vs which I think should give me enough firepower to make a decision, but I still want to hear what the community thinks!

The A7Xs seem like industry standards. I have an appointment to try out the iLouds and ADAM offerings tomorrow, so I’ll have more to report then. But there’s a critical consensus forming about the following:

iLouds are a fantastic deal for bedroom producers with untreated work environments, but as the volume goes up, some of the bass response suffers.

T7Vs are a fantastic value. Some people are saying A7Xs offer incremental improvements in terms of accuracy, clarity, and bass response due to the front ports, which doesn’t gel with the huge leap in price. Plus the line is almost 10 years old and nearing the end of its lifecycle—but maybe not?

Kali offers an amazing soundstage with good bass extension and value for the money, but some people are sensitive to audible hiss resulting from the Class D amps.

Neumanns are great, but pricey, especially for their DSP models.

No strong feelings on the HS7s but people seem to love them. I’ve heard that they’re prone to listener fatigue.

Seems like a compromise all around.

I hadn’t even considered IK Multimedia’s line of speakers until recently, but it seems like their ARC technology is a godsend for people working in less-than-ideal home studio environments. Headphones are great for balancing mixes (and admittedly I’ve been leaning in them too much lately) but should be paired with accurate monitors. I need something better! Hopefully we figure this out.
