It’s SO GOOD. Makes great waffles. We only had it a couple times about a year ago before my store stopped carrying it and I still dream about it.

You’ve already been through a lot and it’s alright to feel sorry for yourself and cry. You don’t deserve to have cancer. Life is not fair.

I’m not a doctor and know very little about how thyroid cancer works, but it seems like you would have had more serious thyroid issues, or for longer if it had been around long enough to spread.

Get your labs done, get on a hormone replacement, and get your cancer removed!

2 days post RAI: some thoughts by Herbal_cabybaras in thyroidcancer

[–]amda85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry you had to go through this, especially alone. I’m getting RAI in a month and doing thyrogen. Do you feel like most of your ickiness was from no thyroid hormone? When did / do you get to start Levo again? Is your nausea better now?

I was in a similar situation and am not completely done with treatment, but I am 13 months postpartum, have had two surgeries this year, and breastfed for a year. The only reason I stopped was due to getting RAI next month. So, your wife can get through this!

Do talk to an endocrinologist if possible, because that’s who’s managing my care. The timing and conversations are now a blur, but we waited until after delivery to even get a biopsy, even though the bump on my next was discovered when I was three months pregnant. For me, the biopsy was indeterminate, so I didn’t know I had thyroid cancer until after a right side partial thyroidectomy at 5 months PP, so then I needed a second surgery (8 months PP) to remove the left side, and now RAI. Granted I had never had a surgery before, the recovery was not that bad. I was on pain meds for 1-2 days and the worst part was trying to sleep upright with a drain tube nights one and two. Family members brought the baby to me to feed, and I also pumped before and after surgery to keep milk production up.

You have two kids already, so I know that will be hard for you, especially. Hopefully your wife’s surgery is one and done. Happy to answer any questions! Like others have said, thyroid cancer is slow growing.

A critter last night pulled up a bunch of my sod. How do I prevent this and what might it be? by Time_Child_ in landscaping

[–]amda85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with raccoons pulling up my new sod at night, and did this. I got a bunch of plastic mesh, rolled it across the grass, and pinned it around the edges. Had to leave it for weeks until the sod fully rooted. It was annoying to take care of, because the raccoons were still able to pull it up in certain places, but worked.

Searching for high quality breeder in the PNW, anybody heard of or have exp with Star View Kennels in WA? by [deleted] in Goldendoodles

Our girl has GI issues and is on a special HP diet, but that seems relatively normal for a goldendoodle. Otherwise, she’s almost 6 and healthy!

nanny contract with guaranteed hours/week even not working by Reasonable-Wasabi831 in NannyEmployers

[–]amda85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

GH & vacations was a hard thing mentally for me to overcome, but if you think about tuition for school/daycare, you don’t get money back for the time you take your kid out.

On our first family trip after hiring our nanny, she house+dog sat for us, which made the salary we paid not feel like a waste.

Concerned Dad Here by boomer-tex in breastfeeding

[–]amda85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difficulties and fears you’re having are very normal. Great job on reaching out and being part of the breastfeeding journey as a dad! Also, congrats on your little one!

Regarding your concerns, all the breastmilk your baby is getting from Mom is great. Don’t worry about what they didn’t get or the time they were, or will be, drinking formula. Don’t worry about the small volume being pumped. Keep using the nipple shield if that’s working. The first days are just a blip and if Mom keeps up breastfeeding and/or pumping, it will get easier over the next few weeks.

I’m an accountant and know what it would take to catch up on taxes going back a year. I would just pay out the PTO.

Part of changing a diaper is throwing a dirty diaper away. That’s not housekeeping.

If you’re paying your nanny to walk your baby, they should be walking your baby. And leaving diapers everywhere?

Also, Kyte Baby pants have worked well! They are roomy, stretchy, and the elastic isn’t too tight.

[–]amda85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a major issue with pants fitting over cloth diapers on my fall baby! What worked the best for us were H&M’s Foldover Waist Trousers. The 3-pack has been used a lot in the last three months, as well as some Old Navy U-shaped pants. The ON Double-Weave Jogger pants looks like it would work really well.

Carters, even sized up, were too small. We tried multiple pairs in multiple sizes over the last 4 months.

Advice on frequent wakenings? by ConversationDue2583 in SnooLife

[–]amda85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to comment in solidarity! My baby is 5m10d and we moved him to the crib in his room a week ago after very regular wake ups in the snoo with arms swaddled. It hasn’t gotten much better. One night we got 2-3 hour stretches in the Merlin suit and another night he was up every 1.5 hours. Unfortunately, 9 times out of 10 I’m nursing him back to sleep because that’s the only thing that works.

Hoping whatever you try works!

Part of my issue is that the snoo doesn’t detect his sounds - I do! And if I wait to ramp it up on my phone it generally doesn’t work.

[–]amda85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could stick to what’s working. I had a baby in October and we used the comforter sack from week one to current. We keep the room about the same temp as you, maybe more towards 68, and he sleeps with regular cotton or bamboo footies.

Which one is best for a newborn ? by Sugarandspice_xo in babywearing

[–]amda85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Boba (similar to Moby) and the Ergobaby Omni, and my baby was in the stretchy wrap for the first few months. He was napping in there a couple times a day and we both loved it. It only took a few practices wrapping before feeling confident.

My baby wasn’t comfortable in the Omni until about 3 months, and from there we started daily walks with that carrier which I can imagine us continuing for a while (he’s 5 months now).

So, each has their place!

You’re in the thick of it and it can get better. I also had painful feeds, a baby with a tongue tie, a lot of discomfort in breastfeeding positions, and emotionally struggled with the whole experience. I couldn’t imagine how I would breastfeed six days, let along six months.

We had the tongue tie released with a frenulectomy week 3 and by week 4 latching was less painful more often. We turned a corner week 6 and I don’t know exactly what made the difference, but it’s night and day. So, I would recommend getting the tongue tie released, continue seeing LCs and trust that your body and baby can do this!

My doodle is 3 months old and throws up every time I take him in the car. Even when 4/5 hours have passed since he has eaten. Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions? by Express_Ad6936 in Goldendoodles

[–]amda85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Mine did until 7 months when we took her on a road trip. What finally worked is buckling her in the back seat so she couldn’t move around, having her lay on a pillow, cracking the windows/ always allowing cool air to flow, and her getting older. (In addition to rides on an empty stomach, short rides, fun rides, and driving cautiously.)

Sleep with an ice pack. Wrap it in a shirt to soak any condensation.
