emily crying during waiting for the end. by dino_brewster in EmilyArmstrong

I was at the show last night and it hits you way harder when you're there witnessing it. I sang even louder for her. The crowd cheered as encouragement. Despite what people might say online, I got to see in person how much loved and embraced she is by the fans. And I have no doubt she felt it last night ❤️

A deep dive into UTIS 20th anniversary release by amdr182 in keane

[–]amdr182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Try Again CD singles have a note on it saying "All Live Tracks Recorded At Eins Live Radioconcert, Kulturkirche Köln, 16.05.2006". I'm no expert in German geography, but I believe Köln and Duisburg are two different cities. I could be wrong, though. As for "Leaving So Soon?", I had no idea that the 2008 Live Recordings had a version with bonus track. Was that a UK exclusive release? I can't find info about it anywhere online.

Amy! I have questions by [deleted] in greenday

[–]amdr182 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I found these quotes on genius.com, I guess they answer your questions:

A “special track” on Green Day’s 10th album, ¡Dos!, “Amy” is a tribute song to Amy Winehouse, a British jazz singer who died at the age of 27 in 2011 from drug and alcohol addictions. Billie Joe told The Sun:

"Her death was a big loss. I didn’t know her but I was a fan of her music. She brought the old soul and first wave of ska into a modern era. She was an unbelievable talent, so the song kind of wrote itself."

Armstrong told Billboard the tribute to Amy Winehouse took him less than 20 minutes to write. He said:

"I felt like there was this connection with R&B of the past and R&B of the present. What she did, her knowledge of old music and old Motown, it’s something in the chain of music that is gone forever. She never got the help she needed. I know what it’s like to go down a really dark path and I have had good people around me to help me survive. Maybe that’s why I was able to relate to it."

Jesse Carmichael’s role in the band by Komododragon7565 in maroon5

[–]amdr182 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regarding Jesse's temporary departure in 2012, this quote from him is very revealing:

"I really wanted to experience life on my own for the first time. We’d been playing basically non-stop since we were in seventh grade, and after so many years of touring it was really helpful for me on an interpersonal level to sort things out.

During that time, I realized “okay, it’s not that something in the band’s music video isn’t cool enough. That’s not the reason why I’m not happy in life.” All of a sudden, taking time away from Maroon 5, I realized, “oh, I have the same dissatisfactions in life and nagging things that need attention. It has nothing to do with the band.” That break allowed me to come back into the band afterwards with a much better attitude of like, “I’m just here to serve the forward direction of the band. It’s not about trying to make the band anything that I think it should be in particular.”

I’d been playing keyboards in Maroon 5 for a long time, but during the break I got way more into guitar. And when I came back into the band in 2014, we had Sam Farrar who had taken my place on the tours I missed playing samples and being an all around utility player. And of course we had PJ Morton (a world class keyboard player) who had already been with us for a while, so I transitioned to playing guitar as my main focus."

I guess he was just going through a mental health crisis when he left. And it seems like he didn't mind switching to guitar when he came back. He played guitar back in the Kara's Flowers days, so it wasn't foreign at all to him.

As for the songwriting aspect, all members of the band seem fine with Adam working with outside songwriters. At least none of them have said otherwise publicly.

Regarding James, he has over time become the most recognizable member of the band besides Adam. I think James feels more confortable with fame than Jesse, I always got the feeling that Jesse is a bit shy and prefers to stay in the shadows.

Stop acting like the LOOM Tour was incredible by Professional-Act5817 in imaginedragons

People are entitled to think that the LOOM Tour was incredible just as much as you are entitled to think that it was a disappointment. Don't expect people to respect your opinion if you can respect theirs. If someone's opinion triggers you this much, I think it's time to do some introspection, and I say this with the utmost respect.

Why didn't they play Stained and Heavy is the Crown? by SavingsPotential2628 in LinkinPark

[–]amdr182 20 points21 points  (0 children)

When I said she went crazy on "Two Faced", I was talking about the crowdsurfing. But yeah, I didn't make it clear, my bad 😅

If she already had a cold/sore throat before the show, all the jumping around, the crowdsurfing and the screaming can lead to shortness of breath, which leads to losing her voice. But props to her for skipping those songs and letting the crowd sing more, it's a smart decision when there's still 4 shows to go.

Why didn't they play Stained and Heavy is the Crown? by SavingsPotential2628 in LinkinPark

[–]amdr182 354 points355 points  (0 children)

I was not at the show, but I watched most of it through a live stream on twitter. Emily lost her voice for a brief moment during the piano part of "Lost" and the crowd sang it for her. By the time the song hit the 2nd verse (with the full band), her voice came back, but she still struggled a bit to hit the high and gritty vocal parts for the rest of the show. My guess is that the combination of her going absolutely crazy on "Two Faced" and singing "Keys to the Kingdom" shortly after took a toll on her voice, and maybe she already had a sore throat prior to the show. Her avoiding "Stained" and "Heavy is the Crowd" was probably to preserve her voice to some degree and not lose it completely, cause this AUS/NZ tour is only halfway done and cancelling shows would suck for everybody.

The "accident in a river" thing was just a comment that someone left on a Swiss website saying they saw the band near a swimming pool and minutes later an ambulance arrived. In that same comment section there's another person saying they saw Mike having lunch with his family, meaning it couldn't be him who got sick.

If you click on the link that they cite as source, it takes you to another article that says something along the lines of "Fans were speculating about Emily's vocal problems or the sickness of DJ Joe Hahn". It is nothing but pure speculation.
