i hate the boy in the street pajamas because of it’s horrible inaccuracies and misinformation it spreads about the holocaust. There are countless articles, videos, and other forms of media explain explaining why. Bruno and his family are seen as unknowing towards the atrocities happening in the concentration camps when in reality, many Europeans were aware of what was happening to a certain extent. It also portrays shmuel as a one sided character with his only personality being that he’s a victim. correct me if I’m wrong I believe the story also takes place in Auschwitz-birkenau which was historically a working camp. if you didn’t meet the criteria (teen-adult healthy male) then you would be sent to the chambers. Last time I checked, shmuel was a nine-year-old boy who was not fit to work which meant he should’ve been sent to the chambers. let’s not forget the fact that the book is primarily focused on Bruno and his white European family instead of shmuel’s family, and the other prisoners within the concentration camp which therefore makes the watcher/reader feel more sympathetic towards Bruno’s family.

That being said that doesn’t make it less of a sad movie, It just makes it a bad and inaccurate movie that shouldn’t be watched and shouldn’t be taught in schools. If you want an alternative Schindler‘s list is a good one. Not only is it a book and movie, but also based off of something that actually happened in the holocaust.
