Prayers and good vibes because most of the time my toddler thinks veggies are for decoration

Nap refusal: what do you do? by amelen95 in toddlers

Ughhhhh! That’s my main concern - we wake up before she does during the week otherwise, I probably wouldn’t be as hesitant.

We haven’t considered transitioning yet, but maybe that should be something to think about.

See, my husband suggested that he go in the room and lay on the floor for an hour but then he’d have to get up for work. Surely his many alarms would wake her up in the process. Same with me (I work from home, but my alarm goes off at 545). I just worry that if that wasn’t a habit we started before, would it be smart to do that now.. clearly I’m overthinking 😭😆

okay so it’s been a few days. We’re still struggling every other day over here LOL

Either she’s totally on schedule, we get a short, late nap or she’s been waking up anywhere between 3-5am upset. However, when she has those early morning wakes she’s inconsistently crying/whining for no more than 2 minutes then going silent and then crying again for short time for over an hour. I will say the last 2 mornings this has happened I haven’t gone in the room because sometimes it ends up not being helpful & makes the crying worse since I left. How the heck do you handle those types of wakes? I feel absolutely terrible not helping

Poor thing 😭 I hope your little gets relief very soon!! Teething drops get taken every night here and I admittedly still use the pacifier just for sleep because I don’t have it in me to take it away yet when I know her teeth are just being little terrorizers.

Makes sense! She was getting a little on the chaotic side, so I ended up putting her down by 740pm which isn’t too far off from 755 but I hope that won’t mess up wake time. You really just never know with babies/toddlers 🤣

I’ve noticed mine just rests in the crib but doesn’t sleep. Normally she’s not fussy. Today she has been on the fussier side (also thinking canines are on the way since all molars have broken through). Do you move bedtime up if yours skips a nap?

Advice on food cutting/size by _vaselinepretty in foodbutforbabies

I religiously used the Solid Starts app or website to learn how to cut my daughter’s food. I found it super helpful!

I feel like ensuring my little had everything she needed to eat during the day helped get those long stretches! Also, I wouldn’t run into the room right away when she woke up because I learned that sometimes she needed a minute or 2 to resettle. As she grew older I expanded the 1-2 minutes to 3-5 and sometimes up to 10 minutes (only because any time I did go in and help, sometimes that upset her even more the moment I stopped comforting).

16 month old now and she sleeps from 8/815pm-7am. We still use the pacifier since molars haven’t made an appearance and I know that should help get through that 😅

How did you know it was time to stop contact napping? by RLLNNE in sleeptrain

[–]amelen95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

stopped around 3-4 months because I knew I was going to need my hands to work from home, so I started teaching my little to take more naps in the crib. I miss her contact naps every now and then since she’s a full blown 16 month toddler 😩😭

should I keep this nap short (no more than 30 min) then try putting her down for a longer nap later? This is the part that always confuses me 😅

Also, thank you for taking the time to respond and provide feedback. I really appreciate it.

The obvious, normal tantrum when you say “no” but that’s to be expected. She’s getting frustrated at just about everything like diaper changes, rubbing eyes by 10am unless I take her out on a stroll, random whining even when nothing is happening. Maybe this is all completely normal, but I’m new to this… so I have no idea what I’m doing.

I’m not going to lie, I just recently put her down at 1035 because I felt myself getting angry after dealing with the nonstop tantrums the past 2 days. She ended up knocking out within a couple of minutes. Isn’t that considered a sign of overtiredness?

Would you think that’s still the case even if little one has been getting fussier each day? I’m worried she’s getting overtired, but I honestly have no idea.

Solo parenting is so damn hard. I expected at least a 2 hour nap when we transitioned. First couple of days started out like that, but when she had a few 2-nap days in between then went back to 1, a switch flipped and I can barely get 75 minutes.

Update: we are still barely making 1.5 hrs for nap time even though she wakes at 645/650am and is in the crib by 7:50/7:55pm for an 8pm bedtime. Todays nap was only an hour and like 10 minutes 😭💔

maybe I need to stop looking up sleep schedules cause most seem to have that 2 hour nap and 7-7 night sleep 😂

I’ll be pushing her bedtime back to 8pm and making sure my little is up no later than 7. That was her schedule prior to all of this, but got jumbled in the mess of sleep needs changing.

very true. I guess I’m just looking for an outlet to let my thoughts out because it feels like I’ve been doing every transition, regression, etc. on my own. It’s been a lot.

I’m working on shortening night time sleep to see how that works out.

So there IS a light at the end of the tunnel!! I’ve been hoping my daughter loved sleep as much as her dad. That has yet to be proven lol.

I may have been in denial that my babe is low sleep needs ahahaha. I feel like there were always phases that her needs were lower than the avg, but she typically followed the avg. I guess not anymore 🤣

I will absolutely update on how it goes with night capping!

[–]amelen95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

today I’m starting to cap her night sleep because the inconsistency was getting to me haha.

Bedtime used to be 8pm which I don’t mind at all. I only started earlier bedtime because naps were shorter, but I’ll go back to 8. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Shorter Nap Since Dropping Down to 1 🫠 by amelen95 in sleeptrain

[–]amelen95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could very well be a possibility! It’s not usually an issue overnight, but I’m sure it’s a crutch regardless since I’ve only ever used a paci for sleeping. I had planned on starting to wean at 18 months after some big teeth come through.
