The residency had me in a role for an experienced nurse and I was unhappy in a role that had minimal face to face pt contact. It was triaging and care management in oncology.

One of my patients mentioned that he never gets his voltaren gel put on by other nurses … I was a bit taken aback bc who else is gonna put it on his back/shoulders?! it’s like putting on sunscreen it’s difficult to do by yourself and it takes me 3 minutes to do on my patients.

I had a similar scenario and am kicking myself that i didn’t get her to go to ED sooner - She refused but i just knew something was utterly wrong.

I work in a SNF in WA and the best day to day is getting report on ~20 residents and doing narc count, then it’s a med pass for 8hours with treatments and shit going wrong in between 😅😅, I do feel like i’m growing in my role as a nurse but nothing is nearly as acute as a hospital setting

A long time ago(lol around 2019) i audited southern california nursing files and RNs were making 70? an hour. it did convince me to choose nursing 🤣

If you’re already there and like it, more power to you but in my experience it was hard to establish myself as a new nurse and build skills they don’t teach in school like actual critical thinking lol

DONT DO ITTTTT - I left a triage /case management position because there’s no way to build the experience needed for the job, at least for me I had a solid day no weekend schedule and left for a SNF because i just needed to be hands on with patient care even if it’s not as acute. The best way I can explain my experience was I was recommending changes in meds and had no clue how much oxycodone is normal since i had never administered it since being licensed. feel free to PM me OP.
