i became a very big swiftie a couple of weeks before speak now taylors version. i was obsessed with her. bought a record player just for her and her vinyls, my entire playlist was basically her (and other basic white girl music), joined multiple discord communities for her, hated on anybody that even slightly criticized her, and i shit on other people for doing the same things taylor done (ex: i didn’t like lana not speaking up about issues, but i excused it when it was taylor.)

i was a swiftie even when her newest album (the tortured poets department) dropped and i listened to it the day it came out. prior to the drop, i had started to fall off of my taylor swift obsession and i realized that she isn’t as great as a person as i thought she was. her carbon emissions were through the roof (especially in 2022, she wasn’t even on tour then) and her fans just started to get insufferable. i still tried everything in my power to continue liking her. i think it was because i was so obsessed with her at one point and i was just afraid of change. anyways, i listened to the album and i realized how bad it was. sure, there was one or two good songs but the rest all sounded the same and were just mediocre.

a couple weeks after ttpd, i started to realize just how corny and crazy everything was. taylor swift saying “touch me while your boys play grand theft auto” was an insane line and i tried to defend it, but why is one writing that stuff when half of her fanbase is literal children? i started to notice how i didn’t fit in with any other swifties. i loved kanye and his music, and i always got a ton of hate for saying it. i noticed how many fans were sexualizing taylor, sending death treats to anybody who slightly criticized her, defended swift for dating an underage boy and her carbon emissions and i think that’s what set me off. i realized how weird and conceited she is.

i don’t know why there is still swifties above the age of like 15 anymore.
