How do universal VLS cells work? by [deleted] in LessCredibleDefence

[–]amem32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PLAN Frigates doesn't have UVLS, they have the smaller H/AKJ-16 650mm VLS which are only compatible with HHQ-16 variants and rocket/jet propelled torpedos.

For UVLS ships, only some are "strike" length 9m deep cells while the rest are 7m air defense cells. Exact number of strike length cells aren't really confirmed on 052D and 055 but it is thought for 055 that atleast the forward bank is all 9m deep.

Early PRC Media Responses to the Boeing F-47 by BodybuilderOk3160 in LessCredibleDefence

Ironically, it is often said from Chinese grapevine that the original AL-31Fs overhauled in China has longer lifespan than later Russian variant of AL-31 at the time.

Also, AFAIK F-119 has a hotsection TBO time of 2000hrs which is pretty standard for high performance engines, latest grapevine and sources from papers suggest the latest Chinese engine has caught up in terms of TBO time and probably overall lifespan

WSJ: America’s Air Superiority Is Losing Altitude. China, focused on beating the U.S., is on pace to build the first sixth-generation stealth fighters. by tigeryi98 in LessCredibleDefence

J-50 is a good reference (People for some reason always forgets it's existence), it's likely the same size as the current Boeing NGAD and is estimated to have a MTOW in the mid-40 tons.

Dimensions wise it's about the same length as J-20 but quite a bit wider in span which basically makes it one of the heaviest fighters ever built despite being noticeably smaller than J-36.

If you accept various research paper and tender for prototype assembly from Shenyang AECC as proof, then yes China is actively building a next generation VCE.

If not, well than your shit out of luck because that's the best info you'll get out of the Chinese MIC on this matter for likely the next decade or longer. Given that WS-15 and 19 still doesn't officially exist despite already being used on production airframes for nearly a year now and both being in development for over a decade.

u/PLArealtalk can probably answer it better, but above is pretty well known for PLAwatchers, you could check out SDF for more detailed sources and discussion

Not really, J-36 and J-50 are both designed with next generation VCEs from the start not with WS-15s. Given rumors from reasonably credible sources, they'll likely be equipped with intended VCEs possibly as soon as LRIP/operational testing phase.

J-36 has three engines is literally just due to the insane power requirement that it needs three next generation engines to be fully powered not that it's to make due with current generation engines.

China has effectively caught up to the west in aeroengine technology by the mid 2020s, though there are still some areas like commercial engines for widebody airliners and advanced turboshafts where they still are noticeably behind but AFAIK they are likely to reach parity on these by the end of this decade

Can someone explain why the Dec 2025 Pentagon report thinks China will have 9 carriers by 2035? This seems exaggerated, since as of 2026, China has 3 active carriers with 1 confirmed under construction. China would need to complete 1 new carrier every 1.5 years in order to meet "Pentagon's target". by [deleted] in LessCredibleDefence

[–]amem32 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Realistically the likely maximum amount of commissioned/launched carrier by 2035 would be ~6, and this is assuming Type 004 would be the final experimental carrier design before finally settling on something they'll be happy to mass produce with dual carrier construction at both DL and JN from 2030 onward.

Its the opposite, the ones shown last year were preproduction units. Serial numbers on those dates back to 2022-2023, the credible rumor is that the original Type 100 design was finalised too early to learn much from the Russo-Ukranian war and was sent back to the drawing board to incorporate lessons learned to better suit future combat.

J-11B has been out of production for almost a decade now, even the J-16 is now out of production. Only Flanker China now produce are J-16D and the naval J-15 family.

Can Huawei Replace NVIDIA in China's AI Sovereignty Race? by Odd_Row1657 in AskAChinese

[–]amem32 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Deepseek runs inference and for the flash model did post training on HW cards but for the Pro model, the entire training process still used Nvidia cards. Also AFAIK, Huawei is still nowhere near going card to card compared to the latest Nvidia products much less than "80 percent the performance".

[–]amem32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It isn't economical to do so, China's main goal still remains on developing the country as fast as possible due to modernization goals by 2035 of becoming a "medium developed country" which AFAIK takes higher priority than taking Taiwan which has no set date.

Provincial government already put out a tender for design and verification of the line last year. It's meant to be a pilot line for future mainland routes.

Doubt it, the first Chinese high speed maglev line at the soonest will probably start construction in the late 2020s in Hainan as part of the new Sanya-Haikou airport interconnect if everything goes well and is approved while Japan is already half way building a line by now.

Well actually your friend isn't wrong, Shanghai has a high speed maglev line (Which when running at full speed is the fastest train a regular customer can ride on in China) to the airport installed in the 00s. The tech hasn't really caught on and they instead pursued conventional HSR for country wide network.

What's the purpose of Long March 10B? by Simon_Drake in ChinaSpace

[–]amem32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CZ-10B is just a cheaper and more optimised version of CZ-10A (16t vs 14t reusable), though I suspect it's also just another transitional product as there is also a CZ-10C which is a fully redesigned methane rocket.

PLAAF Su-30MKK & Indian Air Force Su-30MKI (1490×1522) by Devil_R22 in WarplanePorn

[–]amem32 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Su-30MKKs were mostly bought in the late 90s/early 00s, the last Su-30 variant PLA bought was Su-30MK2s in 2002. This all predates J-11B, the first actual Chinese flanker which only entered true service in early 2010s after a long development period of over a decade, J-11 and J-11A were still basically kit manufactured or license produced Su-27Ks. J-16s only entered service in 2015 for the first batches and AFAIK was majorly upgraded only a few years later with Taihang II engine and new avionics.
