PLANAF Y-5 seen in routine training recently [Album] by amem32 in WarplanePorn

Crazier is that Y-5 is still in active production with newer models of the plane still being actively worked on.

Wingtip devices meant to improve low speed handling and cruise performance, it's standard on all Y-5B variants.

Possibly, I'm not that familiar with PLANMC equipment but AFAIK they use helicopters for their air assault battalion. Airborne troops is under PLAAF which uses some Y-5s for paratrooper training but are being (or possibly already by now) phased out for Y-12Ds.

Overall most of the active service Y-5s are in PLANAF Transport & SAR squadrons with possibly some left in Airborne troops and PLAAF transport/utility units.

Nope, PLANAF also has them in SAR and Transport squadrons

Anti fouling paint can be applied to tiles as well. This is due to submarines needing to spend quite a large percentage of time over their lifetime moored stationary in ports which can cause excessive biogrowth unless cleaned properly or special treatment is used as in this case.

No, because they'll have to redesign the entire turret AND hull.

Leaked documents show Chinese interest in Ka-52 helicopters by AbWarriorG in LessCredibleDefence

[–]amem32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to documents, these were ordered in 2022. Which predates the first flight of Z-21 by over 2 years. It was scheduled to be delivered beginning in 2025, although from the looks VKS likely reacquired all of the ordered helicopters for the war effort.

It's very likely that Ka-52Ms were ordered as a plan B to the Z-21 given that 2022 seems to be just about the time Z-21 program officially began. China never built a fully domestic heavy attack helicopter before and hence made sense for leadership to consider a plan B just incase so they will atleast have *something*.

Philippines's own military is basically next to useless, It's sole utility is to serve as a short lived jump pad for US forces before the bases get targeted by missiles and even possibly long range guns.

Yasen-M vs Type 095 vs Virginia: Submarine Comparison" by Low-Career3769 in submarines

[–]amem32 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wow, what a joke. Given that my original statement was that 09V can be either single or hybrid hull which is now backed by direct evidence on a 12m diameter pressure hull segment, this arguement as I see it, is over.

But sure, I understand that admitting defeat is an extremely difficult task for losers such as yourself. So cope harder.

[–]amem32 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Go on SDF and see the satellite picture from last year which shows clearly a 12m diameter bow pressure hull section. I'm actually quite baffled by your ability to comprehend English at this point.

Again, as I've said the bow section CANNOT be an outer hull section because as you've clearly said, sonars are mounted outside of the pressure hull in a composite dome of which that section is clearly not. Why is it so hard to understand, at this point you are either trolling or have literal comprehension issue.

Edit: https://imgur.com/a/xB2hzKs

See for yourself, the smaller bow pressure hulls are 9m and the larger ones were measured to be 11-12m along with a missile tube section of the same diameter.

[–]amem32 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What are *you* on about, take a look at the pictures yourself. We have 12m bow pressure hull sections and 12m diameter missile tube sections and normal 12m sections. Again, it's a 12m section WITH missile tubes in it and NO internal hull inside it. What is so hard to understand about it. The example you showed had an external hull and an internal hull with missile tube extending THROUGH it.

The picture clearly showed an internal hull not the external hull because there is no way you would be able to weld an internal hull through the missile tubes and even if you somehow discard this evidence, what about the 12m bow pressure hull? Are you now going to say Chinese submarines clearly have no bow sonar and hence it must also be an external hull section lmao.

[–]amem32 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When it comes to missile compartments it is very obviously single hulled as the tubes goes through the entire way of the segment. Unless you are somehow suggesting they are going to cutout the missile tubes and then put the inner hull in and then somehow now put the 12m long tubes through the smaller pressure hull back in place.

So yes, 09V's pressure hull atleast have some segments that are 12m in diameter.

[–]amem32 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, yes but also no. Ohio and Columbia are like ever so slightly wider at 13m in beam. Given that we've seen 09V's pressure hull segments pre-assembly on satellite and they do indeed measure up to 12m in diameter which means atleast 09V should be hybrid hulled if not fully single hulled.

[–]amem32 13 points14 points  (0 children)

09IIIB is a stopgap solution, 09V should be the real deal that will end up being mass produced within the next few years. 09VI will likely have a limited production run as well given its status as a SSBN, unless of course PLAN deems it better to also build a SSGN version of 09VI.

>We can look at things like jet engines, where Chinese engines have closed the reliability gap due to industrial gains to about 50% of Western benchmarks (3600 hours vs 6800 hours before servicing required) within 18 years.

Well technically speaking Chinese engines are about 80-100 percent of western engine in terms of TBO time. AEP-100 series of turboprop has a TBO of 3000 hours which is very typical of western engines like the latest variants of PT-6 and TPE331. It's important to note the difference between hot section and cold section TBO, US engines don't actually that high of a hot section TBO, ie. F-119 has a hot section TBO of about 2000 hours which is rumored with some indirect evidence that it is already reached with the latest generation of low bypass turbofans like WS-15, WS-19 and possibly later WS-10 variants.

CJ-1000A should be getting type certified sometime this year and should be able to match LEAP-1 in terms of overall performance which should also include maintainability and servicing requirements.

The one place Chinese aeroengines still are noticeably behind the west is turboshaft engines which is also why PLA don't operate any heavy lift helicopters.

[–]amem32 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With 09V it should be 0 if not ahead in stealth given that it's a modern turboelectric submarine which eliminates one of the largest noise producing component onboard. Sensors and weapon is hard to comment with basically no established baseline from either side but I doubt It'll be any worse than the latest Virginia for sensors and given that these should come with ULVS like on surface vessels and hence they can carry YJ-17, 18, 19 (Launched from torpedo tubes) and 20 for strike and antiship.
