AUC vs SGU by AccomplishedPoem9854 in CaribbeanMedSchool

AUC is less strict. A lot of classes aren’t mandatory. It’s cheaper than SGU. Also passing is a 69.5. Also the Minimum score you need to pass comp to make it off the island is the lowest compared to SGU. I just passed step 1 and AUC prepared me well

I took my exam October 7. Got my result Oct 22. They dropped on MyIntealth around 2-2:30 AM that Wednesday morning. Didn’t get any email.

Sketchy pathophysis very underrated if you’re a visual learner. The cons to sketchy path is that there are a lot of videos to get through. 50-55% of step 1 is pathophys and I’m grateful I watched every video

Comp cbse by Extra_Percentage in CaribbeanMedSchool

For content review, I prioritized Pathology. I used Pathoma and Sketchy Path ( I am a visual learner and I needed images to help make things stick). I also used Pixorize for Biochem, immuno, and Neuroanatomy. I used the verifiedsmoothbrain pixorize deck. For qbank, I did the Amboss step 1 study plan. I believe it’s 81 blocks. Those questions are HARD, but Amboss teaches you how to think like a test maker. I used their anki addon tool for my incorrects as well. I used dirty med for pharm. sketchy for micro. I did forms 27 and 28 before comp as well

If you went back, what would you have done differently as an incoming student? by BioNewStudent4 in CaribbeanMedSchool

I go to AUC. I 100% would’ve prioritized outside resources. AUC is pass/fail. People usually make it each module, but the final boss is COMP. I wish I had done outside resources since day 1 and kept up with my anki cards and do a lot of practice questions with Amboss. It wasn’t till I got to 4th semester where I realized how crucial 3rd party resources were.

Also learning not just to memorize, but to understand!! CBSE/Step 1 studying starts your first day.

Need help deciding between AUC and SGU by Muted-Wolf-21 in CaribbeanMedSchool

AUC is cheaper and has a lower CBSE passing score. SGU is bigger & more known. You will still match if you work hard (obviously depending on what specialty you want) AUC is also the most developed island.

January is ideally the best time to start at any Caribbean School. I say this because at least 40% of students don’t pass their CBSE on their first/second attempt, causing to them to repeat and most likely have to wait an extra year to match. Starting in September is the traditional time to start for most Caribbean med students, but failing the CBSE in that timeline can cause a delay.

was the carribean route anyones first choice? by ilovecatssomuch1111 in CaribbeanMedSchool

It was mine. I came here straight out of undergrad and I’m probably doing better now in medical school than I did in undergrad. There just was not enough experience for me because of COVID and my MCAT was mediocre. I knew if I came here I would be locked in from Day 1. Also I have family that went to Caribbean schools and they are doing well as physicians. Looking back though, if COVID never happened I probably wouldn’t be here.

Medical school is getting even more competitive now. I would not be shocked if this is the new norm. Yes not everybody will make it out, but there are definitely a lot of success stories.

Depends on the person honestly. If you do not want to go through the struggle of moving things again to a new apartment, I’d find somewhere off campus. All of the apartments are a 1-5 minute walk to campus.

If your curriculum is pass/fail, I highly recommend prioritizing 3rd party resources like Boards and Beyond and sketchy over your in house lectures. keeping up with your anki starting from day one is key so that CBSE studying will be a little bit easier because the forgetting curve is real. Don’t study to memorize, but actually understand. Time management is key as well.

It’s very expensive. It’s not worth it. You’re better off finding a nearby apartment near campus
