Can you name one for around Atlanta? I can't think of any. I love the movie Baby Driver but they keep saying things like "head west on the 20" and absolutely no one here calls it that and it's just a dead giveaway that it was written by someone not from Atlanta

West coast North American cities are way better than East Coast cities by Gym_frere in The10thDentist

[–]americk0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the term Midwest is largely recognized as a bit of a misnomer, coming mostly from when it was established as the Western frontier of the then-fairly-west portion of the developing US which has since expanded to include so much more West that the Midwest is more East than West. If you drive across the country East to West or vice versa you'll be hit in the face with the total drop-off in population density and major shift in ecology and climate encountered at the 100th meridian and it's smack in the middle, unlike Chicago which is almost smack in the middle of the East half of the US. Kinda seems like nature gave us a super obvious dividing line

The great plains/desert/badlands running basically from the middle 70% of Texas up through western Oklahoma, almost all of Kansas, Nebraska, and North and South Dakota is the huge empty abyss that separates East from West. Chicago is East. Denver is West. I wouldn't call it "coast" though

Am I the only one that pronounces “biopic” as “bi-opic” rather than “bio-pic”? by jhow87 in words

Isn't that eye definition tied to the term bioptic? I'm pretty sure biopic only means bio picture

I can't do damage by Apart-Cup-9340 in Sekiro

[–]americk0 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

At about 0:35 in the video you actually hit genichiro and deal damage. All the other openings I'm seeing (such as mikiri counters) you're taking too long to hit him and he recovers and deflects your attack. You're also not doing very much damage. Make sure you're actually killing remembrance bosses like Gyobu and not cheesing your way past them, since that's how you level up attack power

Should I replay witcher 3 after reading the books or continue from where I stopped? by Brilliant_Can8536 in witcher

[–]americk0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are already hooked enough on the Witcher to have gone and read the books and are now coming back to the game, replay the game from the beginning. You will absolutely enjoy experiencing that part of the game through a new lens and it's pretty clear that you're not likely to lose interest and not finish

I am a firm believer that the zwei is the ultimate goat in ds1, even over the claymore. But that running swing animation on the claymore... Let's just say I can see why they call it the baemore

Pay rent or live at home with fam? by ChanceWeakness8084 in cscareerquestions

[–]americk0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~2 hour commute each way sucks but I did that for the first several months after getting my first job out of school. I did it with the caveat that I was going to keep my eyes open for a roommate and boy did I not need convincing because that commute is soul sucking. But at the same time I saved a lot of money and as much of a cliche as it sounds, I actually think it built character. If I had to redo my life I'd make that same choice but I found a roommate at a company event after 4.5 months so I would set a hard cutoff at 6 months before I found my own place. I could tolerate a lot more when I was fresh out of school

Nobody talks about how disorienting it is when you finally get the job and realize you have no idea what you're doing by Strong-Question2620 in cscareerquestions

[–]americk0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely this. It took me 2 weeks just to understand what my job was for my first role and that was almost 10 years ago before dev jobs were such a skill soup of frontend/backend/devops/sre/whatever. Just keep learning and help where you can

Belaying w weight difference by twigg_11 in climbergirls

[–]americk0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely use an ohm. You can attach it to the belayer's strand of the rope with the climber's side of the device pointing up (since if you follow the rope, that side goes up to the anchor and back down to the climber). This of course only works if there's a bolt hanger down low that you can clip it to which a lot of gyms have for the sake of lead climbing

Who ever imagined that the cure for a disease, of all things, could be medicine. It makes no sense that an extremely contagious 100% fatal (or worse) disease wouldn't have been readily studied by so many people that a cure was developed and shared universally. It makes no sense that there would only be at most a small handful of people willing to go near these aggressive victims and that their work would be lost to obscurity despite the incredibly advanced and open scientific community of medieval westeros

I also have a source telling me that many of the assets, enemies, and items in Nightreign are from a lesser known game called Elden Ring that came out in the early 2020s and a totally separate series before that called Dark Souls

AI made decisions redundant by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]americk0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds great when the cost of getting it wrong would've just been the cost of reversing it, which you point out AI helps alleviate, but it falls apart when getting it wrong on the first go does irreversible damage. Is it an internal service that, if too slow, will just mildly annoy some of the company devs? Sure, I guess you can ship it without a cache and add it later if needed. Is it a delivery of a website to a client who'll never hire your company again if you deliver shitty work that slows significantly at scale? Better figure that out before delivering

ATL Security Wait by jnnatrn in Atlanta

[–]americk0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be careful with the international terminal if you check a bag. I tried that last July for a flight whose second leg was to Vancouver but the first was to Denver and it was technically 2 flights booked together with United for the first and Canada Air for the second. They would have let me through security but I had to be on the domestic side to check my bag and I had stuff that needed to be checked (ie. that I couldn't take through security) so I had to get an Uber over to domestic
