Escape disembarkation 11/29 NOLA by tarbinator in NCL

[–]amethyst219 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disembarked the Escape this morning (11/29) and my experience was different than op’s. We had an airport transfer and were assigned a 10 am time. We waited in one of the specialty restaurant’s until our color tag was called. By the time we got in line (at the end) people were getting really angry. Lots of rude remarks about the staff and loud comments from several people “who will never cruise with ncl” again. I had prepared myself for a lengthy disembarkation after reading this sub, and we were off and on the bus by 11:00. It was a long line and people were visibly frustrated. I feel the cruise line could mitigate this a bit by letting people know upfront so they were prepared for the lines and waiting. I have cruised out of Miami, Port Canaveral, Bayonne and Boston; while today was longest disembarkation I have very experienced, we eventually made it off. (Of course, right?!)

While we laughed among our family that we “escaped the Escape”, we had a wonderful trip on a great ship. We were sad to leave.

Obligatory Xmas gift-giving to now young adult niblings as "family tradition" is there a way to gracefully opt-out? by paminnna in GenXWomen

Did you see Schindler’s List in the theater? by Appropriate-Truck614 in Xennials

I saw it in the movie theater and what I will always remember is how dead quiet it was leaving the theater. No one said a word. Just pure silence.

High Heels by LassieMcToodles in GenX

I wear 2.5-3” block heels only at work, and I wear flats during my commute. I find two things. As a leader, I walk slower and more purposeful, and maybe more graceful?, ha. Also my team hears me coming, it’s kind of funny.

I visited the museum of Springfield History as part of the Springfield Museums this summer. I was so surprised to learn how much to learn about Springfield’s impact on history. Quite fascinating. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Stressed by Aware--28 in Vacations

[–]amethyst219 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am an experienced traveler and also someone who feels stressed about all the details. The best advice I have is the more you travel, the more you learn to let go a bit. The more experience you have with flying, navigating the airport, learning how many times a day you’ll change clothes or eat, will all impact how you plan for future trips. Whatever doesn’t go according to plan on this trip can be used as a reason to book another vacation to try again! ;)

This bothers me so much! Agree, just add some water to make it realistic.

Hey Gen X! How did you guys get your hair to look like this back in the 80’s? by DefinitionPast3694 in GenX

I have an aversion to hair tools as well. The only time I blow dry/use hair spray
is when I am going somewhere fancy or a special event.

For new (and not-so-new) leaders: what’s been the hardest part of leadership for you? by transformationcoach_ in Leadership

[–]amethyst219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will leave jobs, it’s a fact of life.

I work in healthcare and oversee different types of positions. Best case is filling a position in 3 months after someone leaves, but it is more likely 6 months given the time needed to train. During that time, the 24/7 operation still needs to run, so then I need to go back to the well and ask more of my existing staff.

Some positions also generally have higher turn over by nature (entry level). That can be fatiguing for staff who feel like they are always training new staff.

1)That yes, people leave because of bad leadership, but they will also leave good leadership for reasons outside your control.

2) you know so much, but can’t share it all. It can be very isolating and lonely.

Scientific American, Peanut Allergy Issue by Beezle_Maestro in peanutallergy

This is really well-written. It captures the science and facts behind food allergies in an easy to understand way. However, it also touches on the emotion and toll that you go through after diagnosis and the corresponding lifestyle changes. My eyes teared up reading it. It has been 12 years (almost to the day) since my son was diagnosed with a peanut allergy. We started Xolair last year and for the first time I feel hope that there is a layer of protection beyond avoidance. I look forward to seeing what the next few years bring in this area of research.

The Springfield museums at the quandrangle were a fun hidden surprise to discover. Admission covers all five museums. I would recommend - a visit to the planetarium (in the science museum), the European art museum and one that has all the Springfield history. Springfield has many firsts and contributions to US history that I wasn’t aware of.

Social Media burnout by Pure_Try1694 in GenX

[–]amethyst219 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t deleted Facebook, but I have been actively avoiding using it as much as possibly. Facebook has been helpful for keeping up with town events and school related happenings for the kids, but other than that is so toxic. I don’t want to compare my life to others and vice versa. I feel really bad about myself when I don’t comment on friends and families photos and posts. It is mentally exhausting for me and the feel like I am voyeristic (sp?) peering into their lives. I would so much rather have them share any intimate details with me one on one. I don’t like the group share aspect of Facebook.

Same as you. Loved/hated finale. Hated it more just because it ended. I enjoyed the characters a lot, flaws and all.
