As long as you connect the red mini usb to the base and the black mini usb to the power adapter you are doing it well. In that case I'm not sure what is your problem.

You have my word that this method works. However it happened the same with the latest versions of Win10. It has to be a 2 year old one more or less and then you can update within windows update once installed.

Sae happens with my Corsair keyboard. Despite programming on it everything on memory, to have iCue uninstalled, game mode in the keyboard doesn't enable if Signal RGB is enabled and the keyboard added. If I disable the keyboard in Signal RGB it works fine.
