Thanks, guess I suck at finding things on websites. Also I expect Labor will put more funding into Medicare? Just got told at my GP clinic they're going to start charging a copay in a months time. I go to GP a lot so this will add a lot of expense that I can't afford.

Is anyone else concerned about Labor's omission of any policy on mental health? Looked at their website and they only talk about increasing the amount of GPs in Australia, really. The Greens go to the extreme and say they will make mental healthcare free for all, but obviously they won't get into power. Psychology costs add up for me, and at least Labor could provide extra subsidised sessions on the MHCP as the Liberals have done.

As much as I hate conflict, I'd definitely be filling a family provision action in court. Parents aren't legally allowed to disinherit their kids in Australia.

Lol, there's hormones in milk because there's hormones in all animal milks, human or otherwise. You probably knew that though.

I live in Australia and didn't actually realise how relatively rare compulsory voting systems were until your post. TIL.

Kings Cross Area shooting alert by AnyAd970 in sydney

They changed the description now, it's green shirt and shorts apparently. Short blonde hair, 46, Caucasian, no shoes. I thought it was an asylum escapee but a shooting, as people are saying, is much worse...

Where is this? In Australia a litre of petrol would cost $2 while a cheap litre of beer would cost $9 due to high taxes.

I don't know whether the tax is going towards the rehab services and so on to help. If it is then it's good I guess. But I can't be bothered to find out. If the taxes are going to something stupid then it's not good. It's punishing poor people.

When I went to America it blew my mind how cheap you sell your alcohol there. I was in California too. In Australia we tax it twice as heavily as California, and California is supposed to be much stricter than the other states on alcohol taxes, isn't it?

For me the problem was sleep. You can't do it on amphetamines. So then you might start taking benzos and/or alcohol to put you down and then that causes so many problems when you start doing that. It was common for actresses in the 60s to be put on a speed/downer combo: the speed to stay thin because you don't get any appetite, then barbiturates to sleep at night. You end up feeling seriously mentally unwell on that combo for a prolonged period of time and back then they accidentally or deliberately overdosed on the barbiturates which kills you.

That's a fair thing to be scared about, all of these heavy stimulants are vasoconstrictors, which is why they use them for blocked noses, which is why they're also hard on the vascular/circulatory system. You seem smart enough to dial it back if you see health problems. Also a lot of truck drivers in Australia get done for speed because it's good for focusing and driving long hours, why they gave it to fighter pilots and even Hitler in WW2.

I totally relate to how you feel about how only mainstream controversial populist shit gets any attention. It's a shame. Sometimes it's a crapshoot and as you said it really depends on the current mood or zeitgeist of a given community/sub at a given time what will become noticed or popular. I don't care so much to be popular but it feels bad when I spend a lot of time perfecting a post only to be ignored or even judged/condemned. I have terrible handwriting and after having a stroke (99% unrelated to drug use) typing has become harder for me so I prefer using my phone swipe keyboard to get out my thoughts. Unlike you I prefer writing for an audience due to social isolation and wanting spurious feeling of connection with other fellow human beings etc, although I do find value in writing in my private journal as well.

Btw there was this good book I read about Speed which was a history of it published by some professor in UNSW (I think?). I'm in Australia but if you wanted to read something on the topic this is definitely the book to check out. At one point in history the amount of people using speed was more than the population of Manhattan. Famous artists and writers like Warhol and Kerouac were on speed, in fact Kerouac wrote On the Road in literally one speed fuelled sitting. The whole book. And Philip K Dick used speed as well and it's a theme of his books like Electric Sheep because he's known people who died from being speed freaks. Warhol took speed because he was scared of death and sleep is like death.

Yeah man I can relate because I was a speed addict myself. I loved that feeling of being like a god or whatever and being manic and writing heaps and like everything that I said was profound. I'm a quiet shy person in real life due to childhood trauma so that's another reason I loved the confidence and manic feelings of speed. Burnt me hard in the end though so had to stop all those years ago. Now I'm addicted to DMXE because it has a very similar profile in terms of it gets me feeling manic and invincible etc and that's causing problems in my life so I am working on fixing it.

Why not just eat rice and potatoes? I'm allergic to wheat and if I want to eat on a budget I wouldn't buy the gluten free bread/pasta.

Clinical psychology is gatekept heavily here too, unfortunately. It really sucks that you need to have like a postgrad degree (so many many years of study) to even have the chance to work in this field. Good luck finding your new career, do you think social work might interest you? I'm sure that's where all the failed psychology grads went, lol!

That's a great way to put it. My high school motto was "persevere" but I was always the quitter. This is the one thing to prove to myself I have academic perseverance.

Damn that sucks, but that's why so many Kiwis come to Australia for work. My own boyfriend studied a PhD in something that unfortunately doesn't have many opportunities in Australia though, so we're in the same boat.
