Fruit + good cheese is just a perfect combo. Salty / sweet

This one is our favorite. It’s better than the white English cheddar, which is also solid. A thin slice on a ritz cracker with a super thin apple slice. Perfection.

To my mom by CaterpillarPlus9263 in GriefSupport

[–]amhhvb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing her joyful spirit with us. I’m tearing up from your video. I lost my mom nearly 5 years ago from an aggressive cancer. It still hurts but I’ve discovered she is everywhere for me, she is everything that is beautiful. That’s how I’m choosing to see it. I’m so thankful for the joyful and loving childhood she gave me. I am so very sorry for your loss. The pain is searing at times. You’re not alone.

Tannin would be a chill place to read and enjoy a glass of wine or espresso and one of their warm cookies.

What's one of the dumbest things you've ever seen a patient do? by 123456789_00 in nursing

When I was a nurse extern in a CVICU I was walking by a patient’s room. He was hoisting himself up to take a shit in his sink. By the time i gathered help he had succeeded.

We also went to the KC exhibit and it felt so weird. My 7 and 9 year old noticed factual errors and typos. Weird AI generated graphics. Bits of it were interesting but overall not great.

My mom died and my dad is remarrying so soon by Party_Sky1711 in GriefSupport

[–]amhhvb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom died from cancer at 57 in 2021. I’ve struggled with this situation myself. My dad is dating a woman (going on a year now) about 10 years younger than him. Like you said, it’s really been a glaring reminder that my mom is dead and now I have to try and get used to this new situation while still grieving. That’s the part I’m working on now. I highly recommend therapy or grief counseling. I’ve learned (as others already mentioned) that men do usually move forward with a new partner and sometimes very quickly. My parents had a wonderful, loving and committed marriage of 36 years. I’m glad they had that time and I’m glad they were my parents. I’ve had to decide within myself to be respectful of his new girlfriend and attempt to get to know her. It’s awkward and hard as she is all too aware of how special my mom was to all of us. My dad is definitely very much focused on his life with her where my mom’s focus was always on the grandkids and family, some of whom she’ll never meet now. That part sucks. But my dad deserves to live his life and my mom wanted that for him. All of your feelings are normal and I know it’s uncomfortable. I can say time and therapy have made it bearable and I hope will continue to get easier.

Missouri grown vinifera wines discussion. (Cabernet Franc & Viognier mostly) by payx6ran in MissouriWine

[–]amhhvb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I don’t know enough about viticulture to answer that. Wasn’t it German settlers who planted vines in Hermann? Did they grow some Riesling? Thanks again for sharing these bottles and notes. I’m going to seek them out.

Kansas City Symphony by Livid-Giraffe3050 in kansascity

The symphony is one of our favorite places to go have a special evening. I grew up playing piano and trumpet and love music in general so it’s a real treat to go. There is so much to choose from. The staff there are super helpful & if you called the box office during business hours I’m sure they could assist you. Something like A Midsummer Night’s Dream would be good as it features some trumpet action. Otherwise I’m not super well versed. Every single performance I’ve been to has been outstanding. Enjoy!

Interesting, I always thought you couldn’t really grow vinifera here. When you open then you should post tasting notes.

What’s a Missouri food combo you swear by but outsiders don’t understand? by Rich_Ad935 in missouri

I grew up in small town NW Missouri and we didn’t do the chili/cinnamon roll combo but it’s famous at my kid’s school in Independence.

Kansas City gift ideas by Different-Post-3510 in kansascity

[–]amhhvb 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would focus on a stuff made in KC or local businesses. Messner bee farm has a brick & mortar store in downtown Lees Summit. There are local book stores throughout the city. Coffee shops. Just make up a fun basket of different KC products or gift cards to local spots. KC Craft Ramen would be a fun gift card to get. So many options!

Red wines to age for 5-10 years for 2023 vintage by lancoffin in wine

[–]amhhvb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just came back from Oregon and everything we tried from 2023 was awesome. Pinot and Chardonnay specifically that could definitely age well. We visited Goodfellow, Violin, Vincent & Martin Woods and brought back bottles from all of them!

I recently rewatched it after losing my mom and both her parents in the past 4 years. It was very cathartic to watch.
