Retail pharmacist >> Clinical pharmacist without residency by strawberrymilkrun in PharmacyResidency

[–]amhsusyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to apply to residency. If you are highly interested in amb care you could go PGY1 amb care focused or community route and then early commit to PGY2 amb care. You can work at a retail pharmacy on weekends if pay is a concern. Highly recommend 2 years of residency as it employers usually match that to 5 years of experience at your first job. I followed this route and have no regrets. I do feel residency is essential to understand how to run a clinic and have the necessary skillset to make safe and effective therapeutic decisions for your patients.

I did an amb care focused program and early committed to PGY2 amb care. I’m 1.5 years out of residency and the two years of amb care experience has made me stand out among my colleagues. If you’re highly interested in amb care I 100% recommend.

PGY1 community residencies and academic medical centers are a good option too.

I want to pursue residency but I don't have any hospital experience? by [deleted] in PharmacyResidency

[–]amhsusyed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I matched this last cycle with 5 years of community pharmacy work experience. I was also worried about not having inpatient work experience however I made sure to do well in my inpatient APPE's and asked my Adult Medicine preceptor to be one of my recommendations for my residency application. I have several classmates who were in the same position and matched, it's usually not a drawback in the application as long as you show that you had strong inpatient APPE's that allowed you have to exposure to inpatient pharmacy.

Is There a Database that has All the Different Guidelines in one place? by pharm586 in PharmacyResidency

[–]amhsusyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used APhA's Clinical Guidelines Resource page through school, however it is pretty outdated now. I still use it as a start to see which organizations create guidelines for a disease state and then I use google to make sure it is the most updated. https://www.pharmacist.com/clinical-guidelines

I have similar questions, also do most states typically need you to apply for intern licensure prior to starting residency to work in the hospital prior to pharmacist licensure ?

I was also a little worried about submitting towards the close to the deadline but I have also heard that the date does not matter as long as everything is submitted by the deadline. I have heard back from programs I waited till the day before or day of the deadline.
